Jamar Shipman (born April 21, 1985 ), better known by his ring name Jay Lethal , is an American wrestler .

Wrestling career

Independent leagues (since 2001)

On October 26, 2001 Shipman made his debut under the gimmick Jay Lethal at Jersey All Pro Wrestling ( JAPW ). Here he was able to win the JAPW Television Title in September 2002. At JAPW he was allowed to become JAPW Light Heavyweight Champion in 2004. Shipman also appeared in other independent leagues (e.g. PWU: Wrestle-Reality, New York Wrestling Connection, National Wrestling Alliance New York or Full Impact Pro). At New York Wrestling Connection he was allowed to win the NYWC Light Heavyweight Title. In October 2006 Shipman was allowed to be with Azrieal at Jersey All Pro Wrestling JAPW Tag Team Champion. In December 2006 he was allowed to win the BTW Heavyweight Champion title at Big Time Wrestling . In 2007 and 2008 Shipman also took part in various tournaments of the Independent Wrestling Association as Black Machismo . In February 2009 Shipman became JAPW Heavyweight Champion for the second time.

Ring of Honor Wrestling (2003-2006)

In February 2003, Shipman played his first match at the Ring of Honor . As Hydro he was a member of Special K . Shipman has appeared in both Jersey All Pro Wrestling and the Ring of Honor. In July 2004 Shipman first appeared on the Ring of Honor as Jay Lethal. In 2005 he won the ROH Pure Title at Ring of Honor .

Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (2005-2011)

On December 13, 2005 Shipman played his first match in Total Nonstop Action Wrestling . Shipman also continued to appear in some independent leagues. In June 2007 he was allowed to receive the TNA X-Division Championship for the first time . Shipman was allowed to win this again in September 2007 after he had to surrender it. On February 10, 2008 he was allowed to regain the title, but had to hand it over to Petey Williams on April 18. In December 2008 he and Consequences Creed received the TNA World Tag Team Championship . In September 2010 Shipman was allowed to win the TNA X-Division Title again. In September he lost the title to Amazing Red , but was allowed to win the title five times a few days later. On November 7, 2010, he had to give up the title to Robbie E , before he was allowed to win it for the sixth time a month later. Shipman feuded Ric Flair , AJ Styles , Kazarian, Robert Roode, James Storm, Matt Morgan and Douglas Williams in 2010 .

On April 21, 2011, Shipman was released from TNA .

Return to ROH Wrestling (since 2011)

At the Internet Pay-per-View Best in the World on June 26, 2011, he made his comeback for Ring of Honor . On August 13, 2011, he won by El Generico for the first time ROH World Television Championship , but lost the title on March 31, 2012 in Showdown in the Sun to Roderick Strong .

New Japan Pro Wrestling (since 2016)

Through the collaboration between Ring of Honor Wrestling and New Japan Pro Wrestling , Lethal successfully defended his ROH World Championship against Michael Elgin at the Wrestle Kingdom 10 event on January 4th, 2016 .
