Chris Lindsey (born July 26, 1983 in Eau Claire , Wisconsin ), better known by his current ring name Roderick Strong , is an American wrestler . He is currently under contract with WWE and appears regularly on their show NXT. One of his greatest successes so far was receiving the ROH World title .

Lindsey got his nickname "Messiah Of The Backbreaker" because he added another twenty variations to the wrestling action of the Backbreaker .

Career

Beginnings in the National Wrestling Alliance

Lindsey started in the National Wrestling Alliance with the wrestling , where he on 2 February 2002 as Roderick Strong in NWA Wildside debuted. In the following years he appeared as a single wrestler and together with Sedrick Strong as The Strong Brothers . In 2003, Lindsey first appeared on Ring of Honor (ROH for short). Lindsey won his first title, the NWA Florida X Division title, at NWA Florida .

Independent

Since 2004, Lindsey has mainly appeared in the independent wrestling scene. He was regularly committed to the Ring of Honor and the related promotion Full Impact Pro (FIP) . At RoH, Lindsey formed the stable "Generation Next" with Alex Shelley , Austin Aries , Jack Evans and Matt Sydal . With Austin Aries , Lindsey won the RoH World Tag Team title on December 17, 2005 and at FIP ​​Lindsey was still able to win the FIP World Heavyweight title in November 2006.

Between 2004 and 2006, Lindsey also appeared several times at TNA and was offered a longer-term contract there in 2005, which was terminated prematurely in 2006.

Lindsey first appeared in Japan at Dragon Gate in late 2005, and Lindsey first appeared in Europe in early 2006 when he was attending a One Pro Wrestling event. NXT, NXT Tag Team Champion and NXT North American Champion

Strong made his NXT debut on October 19, 2016 on an episode of NXT as Austin Aries ' partner in the second Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic tournament, defeating Otis Dozovic and Tucker Knight. On October 25, 2016, WWE officially announced Strong as part of the youngest group of recruits to join the WWE Performance Center. On the December 14th episode of NXT, Strong defeated Elias Samson, entering a fateful Fatal Four Way Match to determine a new champion for the NXT Championship , but failed. Strong defeated Andrade "Cien" Almas on NXT TakeOver: San Antonio in his first TakeOver appearance.

Strong then began a rivalry with the SAnitY faction after coming to the aid of Tye Dillinger and No Way Jose , who were also fighting the group. On NXT TakeOver: Orlando , Strong teamed up with Dillinger, Ruby Riott and Kassius Ohno instead of No Way Jose, who was attacked earlier that night, to defeat SAnitY in an eight person mixed tag team match . On May 20 on NXT TakeOver: Chicago defeated Strong Eric Young and gave Young his first pinfall loss on NXT. In the July 5 NXT episode, Strong challenged Bobby Roode for the NXT Championship but lost the match. After Drew McIntyre won Roode's NXT Championship on NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III , Strong defeated Roode on the August 30th episode of NXT.

Strong joined a team with The Undisputed Era Adam Cole, Bobby Fish and Kyle O'Reilly. For weeks, the trio tried to recruit Strong to join the group and overrun NXT. During a match between SAnitY and The Authors of Pain in the NXT episode on November 1, The Undisputed Era interfered and let the match end with no result. Strong entered the fight and pulled out an undisputed era armband that apparently joined the group. Strong attacked the three, however, and cleared the ring alongside The Authors of Pain. General Manager William Regal appeared on the ramp announcing a War Games Match for NXT TakeOver: WarGames .

In the January 30, 2018 episode of 205 Live, Drake Maverick, 205 Live general manager, announced the 2018 WWE Cruiserweight Championship tournament. Strong was later announced as a participant in the tournament where he would defeat Hideo Itami in the first round and Kalisto in the quarterfinals on February 6th and 27th before being defeated by Cedric Alexander in the semifinals . At NXT TakeOver: New Orleans , Strong turned on his partner Pete Dunne for the NXT Tag Team Championship and Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic trophy during the match , joining the undisputed era in his WWE career. The next morning at WrestleMania Axxess, Strong defended the NXT Tag Team Championship with O'Reilly and became one of the champions according to the freebird rule. On September 18, 2019, he won the NXT North American Championship from The Velveteen Dream. On November 23, 2019, he and his Undisputed ERA colleagues played a War Games match against Tommaso Ciampa , Keith Lee, Dominik Dijakovic and Kevin Owens at NXT TakeOver: WarGames III . He lost that match. On November 24, 2019, he played a Triple Threat Match against Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles at WWE Survivor Series , which he won. On January 22, 2020, he lost the NXT North American Championship to Keith Lee after 126 days of reign .
