WWE NXT

NXT is a brand of the US wrestling promotion WWE . While its original purpose was to serve as the farm system for the WWE's main roaster, NXT has been viewed by wrestling pundits and fans as a standalone entity and praised for its high quality wrestling and gripping storylines. Today, NXT is the third largest brand (alongside Raw and SmackDown ) in the WWE. Events were held primarily in Orlando , Florida , and over time, NXT expanded and launched national and international tours.

history

Beginnings

Before founding NXT, WWE worked with various small promotions, such as Ohio Valley Wrestling , Deep South Wrestling, and Florida Championship Wrestling , which served as development leagues. Over the years, WWE ended its collaboration with these promotions. On March 20, 2012, it was reported that the WWE plans to cease operations in the last development league, Florida Championship Wrestling. This report has been refuted by FCW President Steve Keirn and WWE Executive Triple H. However, the WWE dissolved the FCW in August 2012, whereby all titles were deactivated and the development events all took place in the Full Sail University under the name NXT. WWE had been using the NXT name as a weekly wrestling show since February 2010. The content of the show was a multi-week tournament in which rookies competed to become members of the main rustler. Since 2012, this show has served as the primary Weekly Show for the NXT brand.

On February 27, 2014, NXT held the first two hour live event called NXT Arrival, which was also the first wrestling program to be broadcast live on the newly launched WWE Network. The WWE then planned more two-hour live events. After the subsequent major event was advertised as NXT TakeOver , this name prevailed and has since been used for all major NXT events. Since 2016, the NXT TakeOver events have taken place one day before the Big Four Pay-Per-View events ( Royal Rumble , WrestleMania , SummerSlam and Survivor Series ). The events are mostly held in the same arena. Since 2017, NXT TakeOver: WarGames has always been held as an event before the Survivor Series .

In a press conference at the O2 Arena on December 15, 2016, Paul "Triple H" Levesque announced that there will be a 16-man tournament to crown the first WWE United Kingdom Champion . The championship was intended as the top championship of a new WWE Network to be produced in the UK .

On June 18, 2018, it was announced that WWE would begin recording a new show titled NXT UK in July 2018 , and that championships would be introduced for the women's and tag team divisions. The show aired on October 17, 2018. Shortly after the TV show premiered, TakeOver: Blackpool was the first NXT UK: TakeOver event. Since then the events have taken place in various locations across the UK.

Controversy

In 2013, some WWE dismissed wrestlers accused the WWE of multiple misconduct. Trent Barreta and Briley Pierce accused the Performance Center strength trainer of sexual harassment of the female wrestlers, while Chase Donovan and Chad Baxtern accused Bill DeMott of homophobic abuse . They also accused him of smashing folding rules on the wrestlers' backs and of having a gun with him during training. In response, WWE issued a statement in July that “no sexual harassment complaints have been filed against any employee at WWE's Orlando training facility . Instead, unfounded allegations had been made by disgruntled former employees recently fired by the WWE. Regardless, the WWE takes these issues seriously and has dealt with this issue, with the result that there has been no wrongdoing. "
