Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) was a professional wrestling - Promotion based in Tampa , Florida . It was based on the Promotion Championship Wrestling from Florida. Between 2008 and 2012 it was the WWE's only development league . In August 2012, the WWE dissolved the FCW.
history
The FCW was founded on June 26, 2007 by Steve Keirn. It was the second development division of the WWE after Deep South Wrestling . As of 2008, it was the WWE's only development promotion after they discontinued Ohio Valley Wrestling .
The debut show took place on June 26, 2007 at the Dallas Bull in Tampa, Florida. A 21-man Battle Royal was held there, crowning the first FCW Southern Heavyweight Champion. The Florida Heavyweight Championship was introduced the following year. Jake Hager became the first title holder after winning a Battle Royal and then defeating Ted DiBiase Jr. The Florida Tag Team Championship was also unveiled in February. The first title holders were the Puerto Rican Nightmares ( Eddie Colón and Eric Pérez), who defeated Steven Lewington and Heath Miller in the final.
On July 7, 2008, WWE confirmed that the FCW was based on the former independent promotion Championship Wrestling from Florida, which operated between 1961 and 1987.
On March 20, 2012 it was reported that the WWE intends to discontinue the operation of the FCW. This statement was later disproved by Steve Keirn, WWE Superstars, and Executive Vice President of Talent and Live Events, Triple H. However, the WWE dissolved the FCW in August 2012.
