After an entertaining career in American football , during which he at the Indianapolis Colts and Arizona Cardinals was under contract, he moved in 2012 to the Wrestling - Promotion WWE . After four years in the NXT Development League , he was promoted to the WWE main squad at WrestleMania 32 in 2016 and won the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal . The win in the Money-in-the-Bank-Ladder-Match 2017 was followed by the WWE United States Championship for the first time towards the end of the same year . In 2018, the powerhouse briefly acted as general manager of the weekly show SmackDown as part of a storyline , on which he still appears. In September 2019 he won the King of the Ring tournament.

Sporty background

Thomas Pestock's sporting background lies in boxing and American football . In college he played football for Northwest Missouri State University . After disregarding the NFL Draft in 2009 , he was signed by the Indianapolis Colts . In early 2010 he moved to the Arizona Cardinals . He left this in 2011 without having played a single game in the National Football League . However, he did take part in a few preseason games.

Career in wrestling

In 2012 Pestock signed a contract with WWE . His first match he played on 18 October 2012 during a house show the Development League NXT under the ring name Baron Corbin and had to lose to Dante Dash. The debut for the NXT television show followed on May 2, 2013 with a loss in a singles match against Damien Sandow , which was broadcast on May 8, 2013. On the same evening, he competed in a Battle Royal , the winner of which Bo Dallas for Challenger to the NXT Championship has been declared. This match aired on May 29, 2013. In the following years Pestock appeared in a few matches at house shows as well as in dark matches before he was allowed to defeat his opponent CJ Parker on September 11, 2014 at NXT TakeOver: Fatal 4-Way . This was followed by successful feuds against Tye Dillinger , Bull Dempsey and Rhyno for Pestock . On August 22, 2015, he suffered his first major loss against Samoa Joe on NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn . He then formed a tag team with Rhyno in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, which was held for the first time . The team was allowed to advance into the finals at NXT TakeOver: Respect , in which it lost to Finn Bálor and Samoa Joe. His last feud on the NXT roster resulted in a match against Austin Aries , which he lost in NXT TakeOver: Dallas on April 1, 2016.

Two days later he made his debut in the main squad at WrestleMania 32 and immediately won the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, which was held for the third time . This put him in line with previous winners Antonio Cesaro and Big Show . The following day he played his first match on Raw against Dolph Ziggler , which ended with a double count-out . This was followed by a longer feud program against Dolph Ziggler, which included more matches. After a defeat for Pestock in the pre-show of the pay-per-view Payback , he won the second match in the pre-show of Extreme Rules . He was also able to defeat Dolph Ziggler at Money in the Bank on June 19, 2016.

Pestock became part of SmackDown Live through the WWE Draft on July 19, 2016 . He was selected in 19th position. Later in the year he successfully feuded against Apollo Crews , Jack Swagger and Kalisto . He competed for the WWE at SmackDown Live on December 27, 2016 against title holder AJ Styles and his old rival Dolph Ziggler and at Elimination Chamber on February 12, 2017 against AJ Styles, Bray Wyatt , Dean Ambrose , the new champion John Cena and The Miz Championship , but was not allowed to win the title. In the latter match, an angle with Dean Ambrose, who also won the WWE Intercontinental Championship , initiated a feud against the latter, which ended with the two clashing for the title at WrestleMania 33 . Pestock had to lose this match too. On June 18, 2017, he won the Money-in-the-Bank Ladder Match against AJ Styles, Dolph Ziggler, Kevin Owens , Sami Zayn and Shinsuke Nakamura at Money in the Bank . According to the storyline, this victory guaranteed him a match for the WWE Championship or the WWE Universal Championship at a time of his choice within the next twelve months. After 58 days, he had to redeem this opportunity in the SmackDown Live edition on August 15, 2017, without success against WWE Champion Jinder Mahal . He was the third wrestler after John Cena and Damien Sandow, who had to miss this opportunity. Five days later he suffered another loss to John Cena at SummerSlam . On October 8, 2017, he received the WWE United States Championship from AJ Styles at Hell in a Cell . It was a triple threat match in which Tye Dillinger was also involved. After a short program for the title against Sin Cara , he gave it to Dolph Ziggler at Clash of Champions . This was also a triple threat match, this time with Bobby Roode as the third participant. At Fastlane on March 11, 2018, he unsuccessfully took part in a six-pack challenge match for the WWE Championship against titleholders AJ Styles, Dolph Ziggler, John Cena, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. At WrestleMania 34 , he took part in the André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal for the second time .

Pestock switched from SmackDown Live to Raw on April 16, 2018 through the Superstar Shake-up . In the course of 2018 he acted temporarily as general manager of Raw as part of the storyline , replacing Kurt Angle . On December 16, 2018, he lost a match against Braun Strowman at the major event TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs . With this defeat Pestock's removal from the role of general manager was explained. On the way to a match at WrestleMania 35 , he feuded against his predecessor Kurt Angle, whom he was allowed to defeat at the event. For Kurt Angle this was the last match of his career. He was not allowed to win the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at the event of the same name on May 19, 2019 against Ali , Andrade , winner Brock Lesnar , Drew McIntyre , Finn Bálor , Randy Orton and Ricochet . In the Raw edition on May 27, 2019, Corbin won a fatal four-way elimination match against Bobby Lashley , Braun Strowman and The Miz and thus a title fight for the WWE Universal Championship against Seth Rollins at the Super ShowDown on May 7 June 2019 in Saudi Arabia . He had to lose it. He also suffered a defeat in another match against Seth Rollins at Stomping Grounds on June 23, 2019. On July 14, 2019, the feud at Extreme Rules ended with a final defeat for Pestock: Together with Lacey Evans , he had Seth Rollins and his partner Becky Lynch in a mixed tag team match , which also included the WWE Raw Women's Championship from Becky Lynch was at stake. From August he took part in the King of the Ring tournament, the final of which he won against Chad Gable in the Raw edition on September 16, 2019 , thus securing the award of the same name. For this reason he is currently being announced as King Corbin based on his ring name . As part of the WWE Draft, Corbin moved from Raw to SmackDown on October 14, 2019 . On November 24th, 2019 he played a Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match against Drew McIntyre , Ricochet , Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, Kevin Owens , Damian Priest, Matt at the WWE Survivor Series together with Braun Strowman, Roman Reigns , Mustafa Ali and Shorty G. Riddle, Keith Lee, WALTER and Tommaso Ciampa . He won that match. On December 15, 2019, Corbin played a Tables, Ladders & Chairs match against Roman Reigns at WWE Tables, Ladders & Chairs , which he won.
