Brock Edward Lesnar (born July 12, 1977 in Webster, South Dakota ) is an American wrestler and MMA fighter who is currently under contract with the WWE and occasionally appears on their show Raw . His greatest successes to date are receiving the WWE Championship five times and the WWE Universal Championship three times as well as receiving the UFC Heavyweight Championship and receiving the IWGP Heavyweight Championship twice .

Early years

Lesnar has two older brothers, Troy and Chad, and a younger sister, Brandi. Lesnar joined the Army National Guard at the age of 17 . Because of his red-green poor eyesight , he got an office job. He lost it after failing a test. He later worked for a construction company.

Lesnar was at Bismarck State College, a junior college. In 1998 he became the NJCAA Heavyweight Champion in wrestling . Lesnar moved to the University of Minnesota . There he shared a room with Shelton Benjamin . In 2000, Lesnar became NCAA Division I Heavyweight Champion in wrestling.

Wrestling career

World Wrestling Entertainment (2000-2004)

Ohio Valley Wrestling (2000-2002)

In 2000 Lesnar signed a contract with the US wrestling promotion World Wrestling Federation . He first appeared in the Ohio Valley Wrestling Development League , where he also met his future manager Paul Heyman . He and his former college roommate, Shelton Benjamin , started a tag team called The Minnesota Stretching Crew . With this he won the OVW Southern Tag Team Championship three times . Lesnar has fought in various dark matches over the years.

WWE Champion (2002-2003)

WWE Champion Lesnar in 2003.

He made his debut at the WWE as a cadre-independent wrestler, apparently intervening arbitrarily in matches and literally tearing the wrestlers apart within a very short time - both in RAW and SmackDown . After several attacks on wrestlers (including The Hurricane , DDP , Mark Henry and Al Snow ) he was then signed by SmackDown. Unusual: As a rookie , he was allowed to appear more or less immediately on a Pay-Per-View (PPV), backlash 2002 against Jeff Hardy , as he was in a feud with the Hardy Boyz at the time .

After winning the " King of the Ring " tournament in 2002 in the final against Rob Van Dam , he got a title match against the then WWE Undisputed Champion The Rock at SummerSlam 2002, which he then won. He lost his Survivor Series title that year to the intervention of his own manager Paul Heyman , making Big Show the first wrestler to beat Lesnar.

In March 2003 he was able to recapture the WWE Championship at WrestleMania XIX from Kurt Angle . In that match, he suffered a concussion when he stepped on the rope after his finishing move against Kurt Angle and wanted to show a shooting star press . Since Angle was too far away and Brock Lesnar could not carry out the action properly, he landed headfirst on the mat unprotected. After winning the match, he didn't know exactly where he was at first. Four months later he lost the title again to Kurt Angle.

Feud with Goldberg and departure (2003-2004)

In September of the same year he was able to regain the title from Angle and hold it for five months before losing it again to Eddie Guerrero at No Way Out in 2004 due to an intervention by Goldberg . This was followed by a feud against Goldberg, which ended with a defeat at WrestleMania XX, with Steve Austin as a special referee.

In autumn 2005 there were negotiations about a return to America in the WWE, but these failed.

New Japan Pro Wrestling and Inoki Genome Federation (2005-2007)

From October 2005 to mid-2006, Lesnar was active in the Japanese wrestling promotion New Japan Pro Wrestling . In the very first match on October 8th, he was able to secure the IWGP Heavyweight Championship . On July 15, NJPW declared the title vacant as Lesnar was unable to defend the IWGP heavyweight championship due to visa problems.

Lesnar still owned the physical IWGP Heavyweight Belt. The Inoki Genome Federation promoter Antonio Inoki has announced that Lesnar is the "right" IWGP heavyweight champion as he was not defeated for the title. On June 29, 2007 he defended the IWGP Heavyweight Championship against TNA World Heavyweight Champion Kurt Angle in a Champion vs. Champion Match at IGF's debut event. He lost the title at this event.

Return to WWE (since 2012)

Return and end of the Undertaker's winning streak (2012-2014)

In spring 2012 Lesnar returned to the WWE for the RAW edition on April 2, 2012 and initially feuded against John Cena , to whom he was subject to the Extreme Rules event. Then feuded Lesnar against Triple H . He was able to defeat this at Summerslam in August 2012 via a submission in the Kimura Lock, which from then on was presented as a new finisher in addition to the F-5.

In the January 28, 2013 issue of RAW, Lesnar returned and attacked Vince McMahon , continuing the feud against Triple H. After graduation, he feuded against CM Punk .

At the major event WrestleMania XXX on April 6, 2014 Lesnar defeated Undertaker and ended his series after 21 victories in a row without defeat at WrestleMania.

WWE World Heavyweight Champion and Suplex City (2014-2015)

At the major Summerslam event on August 17, 2014 in Los Angeles, California, he defeated John Cena and won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for the fourth time . He lost it at Wrestlemania 31 in the main event after Seth Rollins successfully redeemed his Money in the Bank suitcase and thus became the new champion.

After the Undertaker intervened in the WWE World Heavyweight Champion title match between Lesnar and Seth Rollins at WWE Battleground 2015, the feud between the two started again. The first match took place at SummerSlam 2015, which the Undertaker won controversially. The feud finally ended on October 25, 2015, at PPV Hell in a Cell . The Hell-in-a-Cell match of the same name was then decided by Lesnar.

After some appearances at house shows of the WWE and the PPVs Royal Rumble and Fastlane , he started a feud program with Randy Orton in July 2016 , which ended in a match at SummerSlam on August 21, 2016, which Lesnar was able to win by technical knock-out. Lesnar made a real wound on Randy Orton's forehead, which was actually planned. Orton suffered a concussion.

Second feud with Goldberg and Universal Champion (2016-2019)

At a house show on September 24, 2016, there was again the ruling against Randy Orton. This time in a no disqualification match , which Lesnar also won.

In October 2016, he started a feud against Bill Goldberg , who had returned after over 12 years. On November 20, 2016 Lesnar had to lose against him at the PPV Survivor Series in a so-called squash match , but on April 2, 2017 he was granted a win against Goldberg and the associated win of the WWE Universal Championship title as part of the major event WrestleMania 33 .

On August 20, 2017, he was allowed to defend the WWE Universal Championship at WWE SummerSlam 2017 against Braun Strowman , Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns in a Fatal 4-Way Match, in which he defeated the latter. As a result, he remained the WWE as an active wrestler, as, according to the storyline, both Lesnar and his manager Heyman would leave the WWE should Lesnar lose his title.

At the Greatest Royal Rumble on April 27, 2018, Lesnar had another match against Reigns, but this time a steel cage match. It ended with Reigns doing a spear against Lesnar. This move enabled Reigns to open the cage. There was no theme song, but after a few seconds Lesnar’s theme song played, making it clear that he was the winner. However, the end of the match is very controversial, because if you play the last few seconds in slow motion, you can see that Reigns was the first to touch the ground. At the subsequent Summerslam 2018 he finally lost the Universal title to Reigns, due to an intervention by Braun Strowman.

Due to a leukemia illness of Roman Reigns and his announcement of a break, the Universal Championship was declared vacant and shortly afterwards a title fight between Lesnar and Strowman at Crown Jewel was announced. On November 2nd at the event in Saudi Arabia, Lesnar won after an attack by Baron Corbin on Strowman. Thus Lesnar secured the title again. At the Royal Rumble 2019 Lesnar defended his title against Finn Bálor . At WrestleMania 35 he lost his title to Seth Rollins .

On May 19, 2019 Lesnar won the Money in the Bank ladder match for the Money in the Bank Contract. Andrade , Baron Corbin , Randy Orton , Drew McIntyre , Ricochet , Finn Bálor and Ali were also involved in this match . On July 14, 2019, he successfully redeemed his Money in the Bank suitcase against the then reigning WWE Universal Champion Seth Rollins , thus securing the third Universal Championship. The reign lasted 28 days and lost the title at WWE SummerSlam to Rollins.

Fifth reign as WWE Champion (2019-2020)

On October 4, 2019, he won the WWE Championship from Kofi Kingston at WWE Friday Night SmackDown . On October 31, 2019, he defended his title against Cain Velasquez after just two minutes. On November 24, 2019, he played a No Holds Barred Match for his WWE Championship against Rey Mysterio at the WWE Survivor Series , which he won. On April 5, 2020, he lost the WrestleMania 36 title to Drew McIntyre .

American football career

National Football League (2004-2005)

Shortly before that event, it became known that Lesnar was giving up his wrestling career (for the time being) in order to pursue a possible football career. However, Lesnar failed. The Minnesota Vikings, the team from his home country, initially wanted to send him to the Euroleague for a year, but Lesnar refused. His football career ended before it even started.

After the end of his contract, Brock Lesnar ended his wrestling career for the time being and switched to the MMA sport. Lesnar made his debut in the Japanese Heros League, K-1 MMA League, in which he also recorded his first win. His opponent Min Soo Kim knocked after a short time because of Lesnar's strong blows.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (2008-2011, 2016)

The former professional was then seen at UFC 77. There he announced that he had signed a contract with the UFC . He had his first fight in the league on February 2, 2008 against former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir . Brock Lesnar lost it in the first lap due to a surrender (kneebar) by Frank Mir after 1:30. Lesnar played his next UFC fight on August 9, 2008 at UFC 87. Here he was able to defeat Heath Herring in the penultimate fight by unanimous points from the jury (30-26, 30-26, 30-26). Because of this victory and his convincing performance in his previous fights, he was assured the main challenger's place on the UFC heavyweight belt.

Due to this, Brock Lesnar denied on November 15, 2008 at UFC 91 a title fight against the reigning title holder Randy Couture , which he was able to win after a technical knockout in the second round (3:07) after Couture against several Elbows and Couldn't defend blows. Brock Lesnar had to defend his title for the first time on July 11, 2009. His first challenger was Frank Mir , who brought him his first loss in MMA. Frank Mir was interim heavyweight champion at the time of the fight, which meant that the winner of the fight would combine the two titles and thus be Undisputed Heavyweight Champion . Lesnar decided the fight in 1:48 in the second round with a KO for himself.

Originally Brock Lesnar was supposed to defend his UFC 106 title against Shane Carwin . However, due to an injury, Lesnar had to cancel the fight. The fight was initially moved to UFC 108 and eventually canceled after an outbreak of Pfeiffer's glandular fever was found at Lesnar. At the UFC 116 in July 2010 he was able to force the previously undefeated Carwin to give up in the second round.

On October 24, 2010, he lost the heavyweight belt to Cain Velasquez, in the first round after 4:12 minutes by TKO (strikes).

For the 13th season of The Ultimate Fighter Brock Lesnar was hired as a coach.

On December 30, 2011, he resigned from MMA after losing to Alistair Overeem.

On July 9, 2016, Lesnar played a one-night-only fight at UFC 200 against Mark Hunt, which he won unanimously on points. On December 15, 2016, however, his victory was revoked because he had tested positive for doping twice in the run-up to the fight . In addition, Lesnar was banned for one year retrospectively from July 2016 and had to pay a fine of US $ 250,000 .
