Wrestling career

World Championship Wrestling (1997-2001)

Goldberg made his debut on September 22, 1997 at WCW Monday Nitro in Salt Lake City against Hugh Morrus. After 160 seconds (02:40 minutes) Goldberg secured his first victory. This victory was the beginning of a long streak of victories that had never been seen before in wrestling: The WCW let Goldberg build an impressive winning streak of 173-0. As a result, Goldberg developed into a superstar who, especially at the beginning, rarely needed more than a few minutes for his matches. In a very short time Goldberg became a crowd favorite and thus one of the most important superstars in the WCW.

On April 20, 1998, at WCW Monday Nitro in Colorado Springs, Colorado , Goldberg won the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship in a match against Raven, and thus his first title in the WCW. Goldberg defended that title until July 6, 1998, then had him without a fight to the WCW post because he was able to secure another title this evening: In a match against Hollywood Hulk Hogan Goldberg won in WCW Monday Nitro in Atlanta, Georgia , the WCW World Heavyweight Championship . With the victory over Hulk Hogan, Goldberg became a figurehead in the WCW in just ten months. Goldberg defended the WCW World Heavyweight Championship until the end of the year. It wasn't until December 27, 1998, at WCW Starrcade in Washington, DC , that Goldberg lost his title in a match against Kevin Nash . Scott Hall intervened in this match, attacked Goldberg with a stun gun and made him incapacitated.

On October 24, 1999, at Halloween Havoc in Las Vegas, Nevada , Goldberg won again in a match against Sid Vicious and thus for the second time the WCW United States Heavyweight Championship. On October 25, 1999, at WCW Monday Nitro in Phoenix, Arizona , Goldberg lost his title in a match against Bret "Hitman" Hart . Goldberg was attacked and knocked out by Sid Vicious, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash.

All Japan Pro Wrestling (2002-2003)

During Goldberg's injury break, World Championship Wrestling was bought by the then WWF. Most of the wrestlers who had a WCW contract were taken over by the WWF. However, Goldberg's contract was not included as he had a contract with AOL Time Warner .

So Goldberg went to Japan , where he competed in All Japan Pro Wrestling .

World Wrestling Entertainment (2003-2004, since 2016)

After the contract at AJPW had expired, Goldberg signed a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment in March 2003 . There he started a feud with The Rock . The end of this feud was a match at "WWE Backlash 2003", which Goldberg was allowed to win. The subsequent feud against Chris Jericho, which had its origins in the WCW (but was not realized there), Goldberg won at Bad Blood.

At SummerSlam 2003 Goldberg got a title chance at the World Heavyweight Championship in the second Elimination Chamber Match , which he could not use due to the intervention of Ric Flair or Evolution. At Unforgiven on September 21, 2003 Goldberg then won the title against Triple H. He was allowed to keep it until December 14, 2003, when he had to give it back to Triple H at Armageddon . His last match for the time being was at Wrestlemania XX against Brock Lesnar , which he was allowed to defeat. However, since it became known before the match that both he and Lesnar were leaving the WWE, both were booed by the audience and were attacked by Steve Austin after the match . Goldberg then ended his active career as a wrestler for the time being.

After it had been speculated for years that Goldberg would return to WWE for another, last match, the computer game WWE2k17 was advertised with Goldberg in 2016. This could be interpreted as the last indication of an upcoming renewed collaboration between Goldberg and the WWE. Statements in the social networks also increasingly went in this direction. After a media exchange on Twitter, Goldberg returned to WWE on October 17, 2016 as part of the RAW program and accepted a challenge from Brock Lesnar . The match took place on November 20, 2016 as part of the Survivor Series ; Goldberg was allowed to win it. On March 5, 2017, Goldberg defeated Fastlane Kevin Owens at the PPV major event to win the WWE Universal Championship . It was noticeable that both matches were kept under two minutes and therefore extremely short. At Wrestlemania 33, Goldberg met Brock Lesnar again. After the matches at Wrestlemania 20 and the Survivor Series (2016), it was the third and probably final meeting. Lesnar was able to win it after a fight time of a good five minutes and crown himself the new Universal Champion.

On April 6, 2018, Goldberg was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame by Paul Heyman .

On June 7, 2019, Goldberg played a match against the 54-year-old Undertaker at the age of 52 . This took place at the WWE Super ShowDown event in Saudi Arabia . The match turned into a fiasco when Goldberg sustained an early injury and an alleged concussion . From then on, both opponents were no longer able to guarantee a safe sequence of actions, which led to several dangerous situations. Some fans responded by calling for retirement for the aging actors. On August 11, 2019, he won a singles match against Dolph Ziggler at WWE SummerSlam . On February 27, 2020, he won the WWE Universal Championship for the second time . For this he defeated Bray Wyatt . On April 4, 2020, he lost the title to Braun Strowman .

Outside of wrestling

After a few appearances on various TV shows , Goldberg got his own TV show on the Automania channel . Goldberg was also engaged several times for film productions.
