Paul Donald Wight, Jr. (born February 8, 1972 in Aiken , South Carolina ), better known by his ring name Big Show , is an American wrestler and actor. He is currently under contract with the WWE and appears regularly on their wrestling shows. Wight has hypersomia .

His greatest successes to date have been receiving the WWE Championship and World Heavyweight Championship twice and receiving the ECW World Heavyweight Championship .

Private life

From Wight's first marriage to Melissa Ann Piavis, which lasted from 1997 to 2000, a daughter was born. He has two children with Bess Katramados, whom he married in 2002.

Wrestling career

World Championship Wrestling (1995–1999)

The former college basketball player Wight began his career as the supposed son André the Giants under the ring name The Giant . He was discovered by Hulk Hogan and committed through his advocacy for the Promotion World Championship Wrestling , where he was immediately written into a feud program with the wrestling superstar. From this point on, his still young career took a steep upward trend, despite his lack of experience. He was allowed to briefly receive the WCW World Heavyweight Championship from Hogan on October 29, 1995 . Less than a year later, he received the title from Ric Flair for the second time. After a brief withdrawal from the WCW in 1997, he was active again from 1998 and was added to the New World Order (nWo) group around the big old stars. In 1999 Wight moved to WWF (now WWE).

World Wrestling Federation / Entertainment (since 1999)

Debut and WWF Champion (1999–2002)

First, Wight made his debut alongside Vince McMahon against Stone Cold Steve Austin . He then formed tag teams with Hardcore Holly and Undertaker, among others . The latter, himself a tall man, took on the young wrestler to get him used to the style of WWF. At the end of the year, at the Survivor Series 1999, Wight was allowed to win the WWE Championship in a match against Champion Triple H and The Rock , which he had to give back to Triple H in early 2000.

After Wight first started at RAW in 2002 , he moved to SmackDown at the end of the year . Here he feuded against Brock Lesnar , from whom he was allowed to win the WWE Championship a second time in the Survivor Series . In the wake of this feud, Paul Heyman was briefly the manager of Wight. At Armageddon 2002 he had to give up the title to Kurt Angle .

Title regency and time out (2003-2006)

Big Show as ECW World Heavyweight Champion in 2007.

At No Mercy 2003, Wight won the WWE United States Championship from Eddie Guerrero . At WrestleMania 20 he gave the title to John Cena .

After the draft in 2005, where he had moved back to RAW, Wight was allowed on November 1 of the year along with Kane at Taboo Tuesday , the World Tag Team Championship by Lance Cade and Trevor Murdoch . On April 3, 2006, they had to surrender the title to Kenny and Mikey of Spirit Squad at RAW .

Wight moved to ECW in June 2006 . On July 4, 2006, he won the ECW Championship from Rob Van Dam . At the PPV December to Dismember on December 3, 2006, he had to surrender the ECW Championship to Bobby Lashley in an Extreme Elimination Chamber match . He then took a break to focus on a career as a boxer; However, this project was unsuccessful.

Return and Unified Tag Team Champion (2008-2011)

On February 17th, 2008, at the PPV No Way Out , an almost 40 kg lighter wight made its comeback and first appeared on RAW and SmackDown. After a lost WrestleMania feud against boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. , feud programs followed in SmackDown against The Great Khali , Undertaker, Edge and John Cena.

At the WWE Draft on April 13, 2009, Wight switched to RAW again. At the PPV Night of Champions 2009 he was allowed to win the WWE Unified Tag Team Championship together with Chris Jericho (as Team Jeri-Show ) after replacing Edge due to his injury. At TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs in 2009 they had to hand over the titles to the D-Generation X , and the tag team was dissolved. Wight won the title on February 8, 2010 with his new partner The Miz (as Team ShoMiz ) in a match against D-Generation X and the stable The Straight Edge Society ( CM Punk & Luke Gallows). On April 26, 2010 at RAW they had to hand over the title to the Hart Dynasty ( David Hart Smith and Tyson Kidd ).

He was switched to SmackDown at the WWE Draft that evening. Smaller feud programs followed, including against the then World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger .

In the wake of a feud against the grouping The Corre , Wight won the WWE Tag Team Championship from Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel together with Kane on April 19, 2011 in SmackDown . April 25, 2011 Wight was together with Kane by the WWE draft back to RAW - Roster changed. On May 23, 2011 at RAW, he and Kane lost the tag team titles to The New Nexus ( David Otunga and Michael McGillicutty ).

World Heavyweight Champion and Intercontinental Champion (2011-2013)

After a hiatus that began in July, he returned to SmackDown on October 4, 2011 to continue the feud against Mark Henry . Since then he has been part of SmackDown again. At the major event WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs 2011 on December 18, 2011, he won the World Heavyweight Championship from Henry, but was attacked by Henry after the match. Daniel Bryan then redeemed his Money in the Bank suitcase and pinned Wight, causing him to lose the title again.

On April 1, 2012 he won the WWE Intercontinental Championship from Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania XXVIII , which he lost again to this on April 29, 2012 at the major event Extreme Rules . On May 14, 2012, Wight was fired from RAW by John Laurinaitis , but reinstated due to an alliance with Laurinaitis for his match against John Cena on Over the Limit .

On October 28, 2012, Wight was allowed to win the Sheamus World Heavyweight Championship for the second time at the major event Hell in a Cell , which he had to give to Alberto Del Rio at the SmackDown tapings on January 8, 2013 .

The Authority and a few appearances (since 2013)

In 2013, Wight led a feud against The Authority after being fired from WWE by Stephanie McMahon when he intervened in a championship match between Daniel Bryan and Randy Orton. After his release, he attacked Triple H, the WWE's chief operating officer (COO). At the end of 2013 he was taken back to the official WWE roster .

On March 29, 2015 he won the second André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal at WrestleMania 31 .

On August 20, 2017, he lost a shark cage match against Big Cass at the major event SummerSlam.

Show returned to SmackDown 1000 on October 16, 2018, helping The Bar Cesaro and Sheamus win the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship , from then on he acted as a valet for The Bar for a few months until he was injured and exposed again. He returned to Raw on January 6, 2020, playing a match with Samoa Joe and Kevin Owens against AOP Akam & Rezar and Seth Rollins .

Outside of wrestling

In addition to wrestling, Wight has appeared in feature films and television series such as Jingle All the Way , Happy! , The Waterboy , Star Trek: Enterprise and two USA Network comedy dramas , Royal Pains , Psych and the action drama Burn Notice . In 2010 he had his first leading role in the comedy film Knucklehead produced by WWE Studios .

In 2020 he played himself in the sitcom The Big Show Show for the streaming service Netflix .
