Emmerke is a district of the municipality of Giesen in the district of Hildesheim , Lower Saxony, with an area of ​​6.6 km². The place is 6 km from the district town of Hildesheim and 25 km from the state capital Hanover .

history

The village of Emmerke is documented as the oldest closed settlement in the area. It was mentioned as early as 854 in an inventory of the Corvey monastery under the place name "Anmarki in Scotelingen ".

The Hildesheim Church in Emmerke also received a farm early on, which was lost and returned to it by Bishop Hezilo . The deed of foundation of Godehardikloster 1146 uses the name form "Embrike". Modified it reads 1250 and 1251 "Embreke".

It belonged to the Little Hildesheim Monastery and thus to the few predominantly Catholic communities in eastern Lower Saxony.

On March 1, 1974, Emmerke formed the new community of Giesen with five other communities.

  • In 1946 Max Seeboth moved to Emmerke near Hildesheim. Several works were created there, including piano sonatas, fantasies, cantatas, sacred works and songs based on texts by Christian Morgenstern. He was the conductor of the men's choir and the local singing band.
