Grand Slam (Wrestling)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Grand Slam is an award in wrestling . This is awarded to wrestlers who have won four specific championships of a promotion during their career.

World Wrestling Entertainment

In the WWE , the term Grand Slam was originally used by Shawn Michaels after he won the European Championship on September 20, 1997. Michaels had previously won the WWF Championship , the Intercontinental Championship and the World Tag Team Championship .

In May 2001 the WWF announced that the Hardcore Championship was an acceptable substitute for the European Championship in order to achieve the Grand Slam Champion award . Kane , who won the Intercontinental Championship on May 20, 2001 , was recognized as a Grand Slam winner because he was the first wrestler to hold the Intercontinental Championship, as well as the WWF Championship , World Tag Team Championship and the Hardcore Championship .

In April 2006 Kurt Angle was recognized as a former Grand Slam Champion after winning the WWE Championship , Intercontinental Championship , European Championship , WWE Tag Team Championship . This suggests that the WWE is recognizing the WWE Tag Team Championship as a replacement for the World Tag Team Championship . As a substitute for the WWE Championship is the World Heavyweight Championship recognized.

After WrestleMania 31 in 2015, the WWE updated the version of the Grand Slam, which consisted of the four active WWE titles: the WWE Championship , Intercontinental Championship , United States Champion and WWE Tag Team Championship .

After the Fire Split, the Grand Slam was re-established in 2016, and the WWE announced that two new championships, the Universal Championship and the SmackDown Tag Team Championship , will replace the WWE Championship and Raw Tag Team Championship .

Chris Jericho was the fastest to complete the original format , achieving the award in 728 days between December 1999 and December 2001, while Kurt Angle was the fastest completing the modern format and achieving the Grand Slam award in 966 days between February 2000 and October 2002 .

Impact wrestling

The first winner of the Impact Grand Slam (formerly TNA) was crowned on March 15, 2009 at the Destination X pay-per-view event. At this event, three-time TNA Triple Crown Champion AJ Styles received the TNA Legends Championship . In the episode on the 19th of Impact , Mike Tenay announced that Styles would become the first ever TNA Grand Slam winner by holding a World Championship ( NWA or TNA ), Tag Team Championship ( NWA or TNA ), the X- Division Championship and the Legends Championship.

According to TNA's definition of the Grand Slam, wrestlers are entitled to form the Grand Slam several times. So far, only AJ Styles has been able to form the Grand Slam more than once.

On August 15, 2016, the King of the Mountain Championship was set when Lashley combined the title with the TNA World Heavyweight Championship . In an article on the Impact Wrestling website on March 26, 2018, the suitability of the Impact Grand Championship as a Grand Slam title was confirmed. On June 4, 2018, Austin Aries united the Grand Championship with the World Championship during a press conference . This means that only wrestlers can form the Grand Slam who have already won the Television Championship or the Grand Championship in the course of their careers .
