The WWE Smackdown Tag Team Championship is a tag team - wrestling title of US doctoral WWE who exclusively to the tag team division of Smackdown will be awarded -Rosters. The title was introduced on August 23, 2016 and is now one of the four tag team titles defended in the WWE. The current titleholders in their first joint reign are Cesaro and Shinsuke Nakamura As is common in wrestling, the award is based on a previously determined storyline .
history
On May 25, 2016, WWE announced in a press release that the roster split or brand extension, which was introduced in 2002 and discontinued in late 2011, will be returning. The WWE Draft took place on July 19, 2016 at SmackDown . After the WWE Tag Team Champions The New Day and thus also the WWE Tag Team Championship were drafted after Raw , it was decided to introduce a new Tag Team title for the SmackDown roster. One day after the SummerSlam PPV, Daniel Bryan , general manager of SmackDown announced on Twitter that the August 23rd edition of SmackDown would introduce two new titles, one for the Tag Team Division and the other for the Womens Division becomes. At the SmackDown edition on August 23, 2016, Daniel Bryan and SmackDown Comisioner Shane McMahon presented the Smackdown Tag Team Championship . On the same evening they announced that the first titleholders would be determined by a tournament. The final took place on September 11, 2016 at the SmackDown PPV Backlash . There Heath Slater and Rhyno defeated the Usos in the final and crowned themselves as the first titleholders.
