Jonathan Huber (born December 16, 1979 in Rochester , New York , † December 26, 2020 in Jacksonville , Florida ), better known under the ring names Luke Harper and Brodie Lee , was an American wrestler . His greatest achievement was receiving the WWE Intercontinental Championship .

Early years

Huber attended McQuaid Jesuit High School in Rochester and played lacrosse for four years. He also played ice hockey in independent youth leagues.

Wrestling career

Beginnings

After his beginnings as a backyard wrestler under the ring name Huberboy # 2 , Huber was trained in Rochester by Kirby Marcos and Rik Matrix, later by Tony Mamaluke. He made his debut for Roc City Wrestling . In late 2003 he moved to Rochester Pro Wrestling (RPW) and got the ring name Brodie Lee . His ring name was composed of the name of the actor Jason Lee and his role as Brodie Bruce from the movie Mallrats . As he later said, he was inspired by Rick Rude , Jake Roberts, and Big Show . During his time at Rochester Pro Wrestling , later renamed NWA New York , he won the RPW / NWA Upstate Television Championship once, the RPW Tag Team Championship with Freddie Midnight, the NWA Upstate Kayfabe Dojo Championship and three times the NWA Upstate / NWA New York Heavyweight Championship .

Independent Leagues (2007-2012)

On March 24, 2007, Huber made his debut as Brodie Lee for Promotion Chikara Pro Wrestling when he lost a match against Equinox. At the end of 2007 he formed the stable The Roughnecks together with Eddie Kingston and Grizzly Redwood . The stable collapsed after it was revealed that Huber had signed a development contract with World Wrestling Entertainment. His last appearance at Chikara was on March 25, 2012.

He made his debut for Squared Circle Wrestling on August 20, 2007 when he was introduced as a new partner by Colin Olsen. On August 22, 2010, he defeated Jason Ax and received the 2CW Heavyweight Championship for the first time . He lost the title on November 19, 2010 to Slyck Wagner Brown. On April 13, 2012, he won a four-way match against Jay Freddie, Slyck Wagner Brown and Kevin Steen and won the 2CW Heavyweight Championship for the second time . He gave up the title without a fight due to the signing of the contract with the WWE.

On October 25, 2008, Huber made his debut with Ring of Honor when he hurried to the leader of the stable The Age of the Fall Jimmy Jacobs in a match against Austin Aries and thus joined the stable. He played his last match at ROH on May 30, 2009 against Delirious.

On March 28, 2009 he made his debut for Jersey All Pro Wrestling and formed the Stable Hillbilly Wrecking Crew with Necro Butcher and Trevor Murdoch . With Necro Butcher he won the JAPW Tag Team Championship on August 1st, 2009 . On January 23, 2010, they lost the title to the Da Heavy Hitters . On May 22, 2010, Huber defeated Charlie Haas to receive the JAPW New Jersey State Championship . On November 20, 2010, he won the JAPW Heavyweight Championship . Since he had not appeared for the doctorate for nine months, both titles were stripped from him.

Between 2010 and 2011 he played a few matches at Evolve and Dragon Gate USA .

World Wrestling Entertainment (2012-2019)

The Wyatt Family (2012-2014)

On March 12, 2012, Huber signed a contract with WWE . He first made his debut in the Florida Championship Wrestling Development League under his new ring name Luke Harper . After Florida Championship Wrestling was discontinued and renamed WWE NXT , he made his television debut on NXT on November 7, 2012 when Bray Wyatt introduced him as the first member of his Wyatt Family . Erick Rowan later joined the stable. On May 9, 2013, Huber and Rowan won the NXT Tag Team Championship from Adrian Neville and Bo Dallas . On July 17, 2013, they lost the title to Adrian Neville and Corey Graves .

On July 8, 2013, the Wyatt Family made their RAW debut on major WWE shows by attacking Kane. Huber played his first main roster match on July 26, 2013, when he and Erick Rowan won a tag team match against Brodus Clay and Tensai . Huber and Rowan lost their first pay-per-view match against CM Punk and Daniel Bryan in the 2013 Survivor Series . During a feud against Daniel Bryan, he briefly joined the Wyatt Family.

Intercontinental Champion and Return of the Wyatt Family (2014-2017)

After the Wyatt Family broke up, Huber feuded the WWE Intercontinental Championship and won it from Dolph Ziggler on November 17, 2014 at RAW and joined the Authority . At TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs , he lost his title to Dolph Ziggler in a ladder match on December 14, 2014.

At Battleground 2015 on July 19, 2015, Huber rejoined Bray Wyatt when he intervened in a match between Wyatt and Roman Reigns . On August 24, 2015, Braun Strowman made his debut as the new third member of the Wyatt Family. Erick Rowan also returned to the stable on October 19, 2015 after an injury break. At the WWE Draft 2016 , the entire Wyatt Family, except for Braun Strowman, was assigned to the SmackDown roster . Strowman was thus separated from the stable. In August 2016, Huber started a feud with Bray Wyatt against Randy Orton . During the feud, Randy Orton joined the Wyatt Family. Wyatt and Orton beat Heath Slater and Rhyno at TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs to win the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship . Since the Wyatt Family was allowed to defend the title under the Freebird Rule , Huber was also the title holder. Erick Rowan has been on pause again since October 2016 because of a shoulder operation. On December 27, 2016, they lost the title to Chad Gable and Jason Jordan. At the end of January 2017, Huber was separated from the Wyatt Family.

The Bludgeon Brothers and Dismissal (2017-2019)

On April 8, 2018 at WrestleMania 34 , Huber and his tag team partner Rowan won the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship for the second time as The Bludgeon Brothers , this reign lasted 135 days. In the end, the two lost their title to The New Day on August 21, 2018 . Huber then sat out for months due to an injury. On April 16, 2019, he announced that he had asked to be released because he had not yet been deployed. However, the release was denied by the WWE.

Huber returned to WWE after five months at Clash of Champions 2019 . He attacked Roman Reigns and helped his former partner Erick Rowan win the match. On October 6, 2019, he played a Tornado Tag Team Match with Erick Rowan against Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan , which he lost. Huber joined SmackDown on October 15, 2019 as part of the WWE Draft . On December 8, 2019, his dismissal request was granted and his contract was released.

All Elite Wrestling (2020)

After the Stables in the months before members of The Dark Order in the shows of All Elite Wrestling (AEW) a secret about the identity of their leader The Exalted One (about German: the Exalted ) had made his debut in the Huber Dynamite -Issue of 18 March 2020 in this role. He used his old ring name Brodie Lee or Mr. Brodie Lee again . He played his first AEW match on March 25, 2020 at Dynamite with a win over QT Marshall. On the record for Dynamite on August 13, 2020, Huber won the AEW TNT Championship from Cody , which aired on August 22, 2020. He gave the title back to him in the Dynamite issue of October 7, 2020 after a dog-collar match . Shortly thereafter, Lee took time out due to an unknown injury.

Private life and death

Huber supported the Washington Football Team and the Toronto Maple Leafs ice hockey team .

His wife Amanda was a wrestler herself under the ring name Synndy Synn. The marriage in 2008 resulted in two sons. Huber died on December 26, 2020 of complications from a serious lung disease .
