CHIKARA , also known as CHIKARA Pro among fans , is the name of a US wrestling promotion based in Reading , Pennsylvania .
CHIKARA's shows are heavily influenced by Mexican Lucha Libre and, to a lesser extent, Japanese Puroresu .
history
On January 7th, 2002 CHIKARA was founded by Mike Quackenbush and Reckless Youth under the name The Wrestle Factory . In August 2002, Youth ended its work at CHIKARA. Since then, Quackenbush has directed the promotion alone, which held its first show on May 25, 2002.
In 2004 Quackenbush was able to poach wrestler Chris Hero from CZW , who took over the management of the league's own training center, the CHIKIARA Wrestle Factory , between 2004 and October 2007 . As a result, CHIKARA spawned a number of shows that are now established in the independent wrestling scene. Stars from the national and international scene also perform there regularly.
In October 2007, the Swiss Claudio Castagnoli was hired as head coach. Initially only held in the United States, in 2008 a collaboration with the Germany-based promotion Westside Xtreme Wrestling began . The mediator of the cooperation between the two promotions was Castagnoli, who had one of his wrestling roots in this German promotion. As a result of this cooperation, two jointly organized shows were held in Essen in November of the same year .
Just one year later, CHIKARA and Big Japan Pro-Wrestling hosted two shows in Tokyo , which took place on June 12th and 13th. Although the doctorate is now officially international due to the events in Germany and Japan, it was the only foreign obligation of the doctorate. Since then, it has only been organizing nationally, which means that it only hosts its shows in the USA and rarely in Canada.
CZW / CHIKARA Wrestle Factory
In 2002, CHIKARA founded her own wrestling school. In 2004 the wrestler CZW wrestler Chris Hero took over the management of the "Factory". Since taking over Heros, the Factory has been in close cooperation with Combat Zone Wrestling . In 2005, the CHIKARA Wrestle Factory was renamed CZW / CHIKARA Wrestle Factory . In October 2007, the Swiss Claudio Castagnoli was hired as head coach, who worked there until 2011, when he signed a contract with WWE in the fall of that year. The factory is now based in Philadelphia . In 2011 the company was renamed "The Wrestling Factory", thus parting with CHIKARA by name. In addition to Mike Quackenbush, Fire Ant, Green Ant, Hallowicked, Ophidian & Chuck Taylor are now also active as trainers in the Factory.
