Chris Spradlin (born December 24, 1979 in Dayton , Ohio ) is an American wrestler . He was best known by his ring name Chris Hero . Spradlin regularly competed in the Combat Zone Wrestling , IWA Mid-South and IWA Texas / ACW promotions . But he also got into the ring for established promotions such as Ring Of Honor and Pro Wrestling NOAH .

history

prehistory

Spradlin is the son of an American and a German . He is active in the independent scene and started his career on September 12, 1998 at the age of 18 under the gimmick of the Wife Beater . That day he made his debut match at Unified Championship Wrestling in Xenia, Ohio. His opponent at the time was "Heart Throb" Halsey , who remained victorious.

In 1999 there was a change of gimmick. A women's organization forced him to take this step when this show character was discussed controversially on a TV show. So he appeared at short notice under the new ring name Chris Hyro .

The time in the NWA and the IWA Mid-South

On September 25, 1999, Chris Spradlin made his debut in Charlotte, North Carolina as Chris Hero in the National Wrestling Alliance when he was used in the NWA World Junior Heavyweight Title # 1 Contendership Battle Royal . On October 30, 1999, he entered a tournament in North Versailles, Pennsylvania, which was hosted by the NWA East and the Pittsburgh Wrestling League . In this match Spradlin could stay victorious.

On July 1, 2000, Chris Spradlin first appeared for the IWA Mid-South when he competed in Charlestown, Indiana at IWA MS @ House of Hardcore and lost to his opponent Jerry Palmer .

In the period between July and October 2000 Spradlin's assignments alternated regularly in the NWA East and the IWA Mid-South. On October 7, he made his first appearance in the Championship Wrestling Federation in Monessen, Pennsylvania at their debut event. After this appearance, others followed in various NWA affiliates and IWA MS.

On November 23, 2000, Chris Spradlin competed in the IWA Mid-South against Sabu for the NWA World Title and lost.

After this match, Spradlin was exclusively under contract with the IWA MS until April 13, 2001. There he was able to win the world title of promotion for the first time on October 20 and hold it for 46 days.

Time in the independent scene

On April 13, 2001 he took part in a tournament of the International Wrestling Cartels in McKees Rocks, Pennsylvania and on August 25 of the same year Spradlin had an engagement with Independent Wrestling Revolution .
On October 20, 2001, Chris Spradlin was able to book his first title win when he defeated his opponent Trant Baker for the title in the IWA Mid-South . Numerous title defenses in the IWA MS followed. Only on December 5, 2001, Spradlin had to cede the title to CM Punk when he lost to IWA MS @ Knights Of Columbus in Indianapolis, Indiana.

After some appearances at IWA MS, Spradlin's debut at Insane Wrestling Federation in Dearborn, Michigan took place on January 25, 2002 .

First assignments abroad

Chris Spradlin started to operate globally in 2002. So he accepted an engagement for the Germany-based promotion westside Xtreme wrestling . For this promotion he accepted on February 3, 2002 at a tournament in Nuremberg. On April 7th, 2002 Spradlin competed for Freestyle Championship Wrestling in Ede, Netherlands and on April 13th he was back in the ring for wXw in Essen .

In May 2002, Chris Spradlin was recruited from a US promotion when he got into the ring on May 5 for the Premier Wrestling Federation . On May 11th, 2002 Spradlin started for the promotion Combat Zone Wrestling and on May 25th he had his first engagement for CHIKARA Pro . Since June 2002 Spradin was again committed to IWA Mid-South for a longer period , which was only interrupted for a few appearances at the NWA, CZW and the International Wrestling Cartel .

On July 12th, Chris Spradin was able to win the IWA MS World Heavyweight Championship for the second time in Clarksville, Indiana and hold it for 85 days before he had to relinquish it to M-Dogg 20 on October 5th .

Spradlin as wXw and IWA MS champion

On February 7, 2003 Spradlin was able to win the IWA title again and hold it for 120 days.

On February 14, 2003 Spradlin entered the ring for the first time for the promotion of Xtreme Pro Wrestling and a little later he was active again in the German wrestling scene.

On March 1, 2003, Chris Spradlin took on a commitment to westside Xtreme wrestling , which culminated in winning the wXw Heavyweight Title . He was allowed to hold this German title for 252 days and since Spradlin also defended it in the USA, the title was upgraded to a world title. On November 8, 2003, Spradlin ceded the wXw title in Salem, Indiana to Alex Shelley .

First appearances at TNA and success in the independent scene

On July 2nd, 2003 Spradlin made his debut appearance at Total Nonstop Action Wrestling and on July 5th he already took part in a tournament organized by CHIKARA Pro.

After the IWA MS declared their world title vacant, Spradlin was able to win it for the fourth time on July 12, 2003, when he defeated his opponent Danny Daniels in Clarksville, Indiana . Just one day later, on July 13th, Spradlin also won the XICW Intense Title of Xtreme Intense Championship Wrestling in Warren, Michigan. But already on August 2nd, 2003 Spradlin had to compete for his IWA title after 21 days at Daniels, since he was now the title holder of a doctorate that did not work with the IWA Mid-South.

Renewed commitments in Europe

On October 11, 2003, Chris Spradlin joined the European Wrestling Association in Leoben, Austria and a little later, on October 18, he had an appearance at German Stampede Wrestling . On October 20, Spradlin fought for the UK- based promotion All-Star Wrestling .

He then went back to the States and now competed again for the promotions IWA Mid-South, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, Combat Zone Wrestling and the International Wrestling Cartel . This was followed by positions in All-Star Wrestling in Great Britain and in 2004 in Major League Wrestling .

On January 24, 2004 Spradlin first appeared in Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and then repeated appearances in Europe at All-Star Wrestling and the wXw.

On March 6, 2004 Spradlin was committed to the UK-based Promotion Garage Pro Wrestling and was able to win the GPW International Championship and hold it for 225 days. On October 17, 2004, he ceded the title to TJ Caine .

Renewed engagement with the NWA

Chris Spradlin took part in the CZW Iron Man Championship Tournament in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on May 1, 2004 and won it too. He held this title for 224 days. On May 14th, Chris Spradlin reappeared after a long time with the National Wrestling Alliance when he was now at their affiliate "NWA No Limits" in Rock Islands, Illinois.

On June 5, 2004, he was committed to the NWA Florida and on June 22, he performed at the Heartland Wrestling Association in Evendale, Ohio. By September 2004, Chris Spradlin toured the independent scene. On September 5, he then made an appearance at Cleveland All-Pro Wrestling in Cleveland, Ohio.

He made his first appearance for the IWA East-Coast on April 6, 2005, when he took part in a tournament in Dunbar, West Virginia. There he became the first IWA EC Heavyweight Champion to graduate and he was able to hold this title for 588 days. It was not until November 15, 2006 that he ceded the title to Jerry Lynn . CZW / CHIKARA Wrestle Factory

On July 21, 2005 Chris Sprandlin performed at CZW / CHIKARA Wrestle Factory , where he competed as Kings Of Wrestling together with Claudio Castagnoli and Gran Akuma .

Spradlin was signed for the first time on August 14th of the same year at Ballpark Wrestling in Rochester, New York. On the 27th of the same month he also competed at IWA Switzerland in Schübelbach, Switzerland . On September 3, 2005 Spradlin had another engagement at wXw in Germany.
After Chris Spradlin toured for a long time in the well-known promotions IWA MS, CZW, NWA etc., Claudio Castagnoli and he were able to win the tag team title of Combat Zone Wrestling on September 10, 2009 and hold it for 154 days.

On November 26, 2005, Spradlin in Berwyn, Illinois had his first engagement with AAW: Professional Wrestling Redefined . A little later, on December 17th, he made his debut at Future Championship Wrestling in Great Britain.

On January 28, 2006 Spradlin made an appearance at Pro Wrestling Elite in Booton, New Jersey.
On February 26th, 2006 Claudio Castagnoli and Spradlin won the CHIKARA Campeonatos de Parejas Championship in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and were able to hold it for 264 days.

First appearances in Mexico, Canada and Italy

After Chris Spradlin had made a name for himself in the American independent scene , he signed up for a tournament in Mexico , which should take place on March 4, 2006 and should be hosted by Toryumon Mexico . There he competed against Claudio Castagnoli and was able to defeat him.

Ring of Honor

Slowly the largest independent promotion, which existed next to the TNA, became aware of Chris Spradlin. Spradlin made his wrestling debut for Ring Of Honor on August 12, 2006 in Liverpool, England .

On September 1, 2006, he made his debut in San Francisco for the English doctorate ChickFight . Just 14 days later, on September 13th, Chris Spradlin had a commitment to Pro Wrestling Xplosion in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania . But with a few exceptions, he now mainly entered the ring for ROH. Between July 13 and 14, 2007, Chris Spradlin was a participant in Florida in the Jeff Peterson Memorial Cup , which he was allowed to leave as the winner. Already on July 29th Spradlin was in the ring in San Antonio, Texas for the promotion Anarchy Championship Wrestling.

Renewed commitment in Germany

In autumn 2007 Spradlin thought it was time to compete in Germany again. So he took on some commitments there. On November 23, he made his debut in Winsen / Luhe, Lower Saxony for Catch Wrestling Northern Germany and again he competed for westside Xtreme wrestling and German Stampede Wrestling . There he won the tag team title together with Marc Roudin in Oberhausen on November 24th . Both were able to hold the title for 210 days and only had to cede it to Absolute Andy and Steve Douglas on June 22, 2008 .

On November 25, 2007, he also took an appointment in Great Britain, which was hosted by International Pro Wrestling United Kingdom . This was followed by appearances in the US, English and Japanese wrestling scenes. For example, he joined the Ohio Valley Wrestling on July 2, 2008 . On July 6th, 2008 Spradlin won the World Title of Pro Wrestling Guerrilla in Reseda, California and held it for 426 days. It was not until September 4, 2009 that he ceded this to Bryan Danielson .

On July 20, 2008, he made his debut at Velocity Pro Wrestling in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Full Impact Pro and EVOLVE Wrestling

On March 28, 2009, Chris Spradlin made his Florida debut with Full Impact Pro , before returning to Japan. On March 13, 2010 he made an appearance at EVOLVE Wrestling in New Jersey. On April 10th of the same year Spradlin took part in the last tournament of German Stampede Wrestling.

On March 20, 2010 Claudio Castagnoli and Chris Spradlin won the CHIKARA Campeonatos de Parejas Championship for the second time in Easton, Pennsylvania and on April 3, 2010 both won the ROH Tag Team Title for the second time in Charlotte, North Carolina .

WWE (2012-2013)

In February 2012 Spradlin signed a development contract with the WWE . He first appeared in the in-house Farm League Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) under the name Kassius Ohno . After the league was renamed from FCW to NXT Wrestling , he was seen there weekly. Spradlin was fired from the WWE on November 9, 2013 and is performing again in the independent field. He returned to NXT in early March 2017.

Others

Chris Spradlin trained other wrestlers at the CZW Academy (today's CZW Pro Wrestling School, which emerged from the New Jersey-based Combat Zone Pro Wrestling School) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Among other things, he trained the IWA Valet Mickie Knuckles .
