With the international "16 Carat Gold Tournament" scheduled for three days, wXw Europe GmbH is organizing the largest and most important wrestling event in Europe .

history

Beginnings

The story of today's promotion begins on December 24th, 2000, when eight wrestlers held an event called the “wXw Extreme Wrestling Party” in the “Roxy” discotheque in Essen . These wrestlers were HaTe , SigMasta Rappo , Tyrant , Mark Hammer , Blue Adonis , Barish , Thunder, and Claudio Castagnoli . The organizer was Peter Wiechers , who as "HaTe" also actively participated in the event. The young doctorate received great support from Wolfgang Stach and his fan magazine Power Wrestling .

The event was inspired by the then US promotion Extreme Championship Wrestling . As a result, matches were initially held mainly in the then very popular hardcore style . As one of the first European promotions, Westside Xtreme Wrestling used fluorescent tubes and barbed wire .

In the German independent scene

But the doctorate kept getting into financial difficulties . The management of Westside Xtreme Wrestling at that time consisted only of its organizer Peter Wiechers, who was also the real owner of the promotion. For example, Westside Xtreme Wrestling lacked all organizational structures and a proper cash system . Despite these chaotic conditions (2000-2006) Westside Xtreme Wrestling was able to expand and build a permanent audience. The situation of the missing ring barriers and the public right on the ring was introduced out of an emergency, which is now known as the “standing cult”. Initially, wXw only organized in the Ruhr area , mainly in the city of Essen. So the promotion Westside Xtreme Wrestling was seen and designated as a league based in Essen. Since 2001 there has been a close cooperation with the Promotion German Stampede Wrestling, which was then located in Cologne .

In 2002, Westside Xtreme Wrestling started in Wittdorf , Lower Saxony , where, together with the local promotion Northern Amateur Wrestling Alliance (NAWA), they presented the show “wXw vs. NAWA - Harley Nights 2002 ”. In May of the same year Westside held Xtreme Wrestling in Greven . Between May and July 2004 the doctorate also took place in Mülheim an der Ruhr and in Unna . Ingo Vollenberg , one of the directors of German Stampede Wrestling , acted as president of Westside Xtreme Wrestling at that time . In 2004, the collaboration between the two leagues was ended, as the wXw was more dedicated to traditional pro-wrestling and the GSW to sports entertainment .

The feud "wXw vs. GSW "

The year 2006 was a turning point in the history of the league: On the one hand, Westside Xtreme Wrestling was sold , on the other hand, the league's sixth birthday was due this year. Due to various circumstances, the wXw had lost Essen as an event location. So she moved to Soest just in time for the 6th anniversary . A feud with German Stampede Wrestling was started especially for this . In the course of this feud, wrestler Thumbtack Jack also competed on the side of GSW against various opponents of Westside Xtreme Wrestling. Thumbtack Jack started his career again at wXw. But in 2007 this feud was ended without a proper conclusion and wXw and GSW finally shared a large part of their wrestling roster .

In the international independent scene

Westside Xtreme Wrestling started working with the independent wrestling scene around 2006. A collaboration with the US promotion IWA Mid-South was started. For example, Mickie Knuckles appeared on January 28th and 29th, 2006 at Westside Xtreme Wrestling. The owner of IWA Mid-South, Ian Rotten , won the "wXw Hardcore Championship" in Essen on January 29, 2006 and then held this title for 82 days. During the title defense on April 21, 2006 Rotten lost the title in Plainfield, Indiana to the Necro Butcher .

But even with the European wrestling scene contacts were made: for example, took Tassilo Jung - today the main referee of wXw - April 29, 2006 a the Swiss Glarus organized show called "IWA Switzerland Evolution" in part, by the IWA Switzerland aligned has been. There he went under the name Assassin A as an active wrestler.

On December 10, 2006, Westside Xtreme Wrestling and the UK- based promotion X-Sports: Wrestling hosted a collaborative death match tournament . This was called "wXw / WS: W Gorefest - European King Of The Death Matches" and was held in Colchester , Essex . Ian Rotten emerged as the winner of this tournament when he defeated Mickie Knuckles .

In 2007, Westside Xtreme Wrestling was considered established in the international independent wrestling scene. Since the closure of Extreme Championship Wrestling (2001) wXw had some wrestlers under contract for this promotion, which was bought up by the then World Wrestling Federation . For example The Sandman on “wXw Got Eggs? - Day 2 "(April 19, 2003) and Raven on" wXw Enter The Zone "(March 27, 2004). But also former superstars of the then WWF could be signed by Westside Xtreme Wrestling. Sun joined Jake "the Snake" Roberts on June 29, 2002, the show "wXw Broken Rulez 2" in Essen. On October 28, 2007, Westside Xtreme Wrestling organized a joint show with Pro Wrestling Guerrilla called "PWG / wXw European Vacation II: Germany", which was held in Essen.

On June 22nd, 2008 the promotions Pro Wrestling NOAH and wXw organized a joint show called "wXw / NOAH Death End III - Day 2: European Navigation". This took place in the context of the two-day event "Dead End III" held in Oberhausen. On November 8th and 9th, 2008, CHIKARA Pro Wrestling and Westside Xtreme Wrestling were jointly organized in Oberhausen. This joint project was called "wXw / CHIKARA Tag World Grand Prix 2008".

Foundation of the "wXw GbR"

In 2006, Peter Wiechers , the owner of Westside Xtreme Wrestling at the time, and the wXw employees Tassilo Jung , Felix Kohlenberg and Christian Michael Jakobi agreed to sell the promotion. The now heavily indebted doctorate became the property of the newly founded "wXw Deutschland GbR". In addition to Jung, Kohlenberg and Jakobi, this also included Marc Weingartner . He was one of the two cameramen who recorded the shows. These shows were initially made and sold for purchase videos and later DVDs. This represented one of the sources of income for the promotion. Weingartner was a partner in the promotion until December 31, 2011 and gave up his position for personal reasons.

While the majority of the wXw shows were mainly limited to the Ruhr area and the Sauerland, people began to focus on southern Germany . So it was held for the first time in Munich on January 27 and 28, 2008 .

Creation of a permanent international wrestling squad

After the change of ownership, the official headquarters were relocated from Essen to Oberhausen. After Wiechers was no longer responsible for booking the shows, the wrestling style of Westside Xtreme Wrestling shifted from hardcore wrestling to tech-savvy wrestling. On August 1, 2006, the “wXw Hardcore Championship” was discontinued without replacement.

One began now to establish a permanent international wrestling squad. Thanks to Doug Williams, they also worked with the Japanese promotion pro wrestling Noah . But even with the British wrestling scene was entered into a business relationship, by now the wrestlers Paul Tracy and Zack Saber Jr. committed. These were and are closely linked to the National Wrestling Alliance , as both wrestlers carry European NWA titles in this. Tracy is the title holder in the NWA Ireland and Saber Jr. in the NWA UK Hammerlock . Representatives of the Dutch and Austrian scene are Emil Sitoci , Tommy End and Michael Dante as well as Big Daddy Walter . The former are Dutch, the latter is Austrian.

The current top representatives of Westside Xtreme Wrestling in the tag team area include Tommy End and Michael Dante from the Sumerian Death Squad.

Gorefest II

Since Westside Xtreme Wrestling wanted to continue offering its fans pure death match wrestling , the show "wXw 18+ - 'lol, i'll pretend u said 18'" was held on April 12, 2008 in Troisdorf . This show was aimed at an adult audience and preparations were made to plan an international death match tournament to be held in Germany.

Thumbtack Jack took part on November 27, 2008 in the show "Masters Of Pain 2008" organized by the IWA East-Coast , which he won. Thumbtack Jack also took part in the "King Of The Death Matches 2009" show organized by the IWA Mid-South between March 6th and 7th, 2009 and made it to the finals there. This means that Westside Xtreme Wrestling is considered to be established in the US scene and is now regarded there as the main representative of German-language wrestling.

Troisdorf was chosen to hold the death match tournament. The wXw started working out the requirements for this show with the regulatory office . April 4, 2009 was set as the date of the event. All tricks were used to offer the fans an authentic event. Objects and barbed wire were specially prepared for the Troisdorf Public Order Office. The public order office was told that these items should be used in the tournament. In order to guarantee the use of fluorescent tubes, Tassilo Jung made the claim that they were completely harmless. You just have to hit it on a body at a certain angle and then there would be no risk of injury. Jung explained the bleeding wounds as blading , which is common in show wrestling .

A few days before the event date for the show “18+ Gorfest II”, Westside Xtreme Wrestling were unexpectedly presented by the Troisdorf Public Order Office with completely different conditions than those agreed by both sides. These contradicted in all things those that were negotiated with the regulatory office. As a result, Jung refused his signature and thus the binding recognition of these requirements. On April 4, 2009, although employees of the Troisdorf Public Order Office were present at the event, all matches were held under real death match rules . The city of Troisdorf then prohibited Westside Xtreme Wrestling from any further events in the city.

Change of company form

In 2009 the company "wXw Deutschland GbR" was dissolved and the successor company "wXw Europe GmbH" took its place. On July 11th, 2009 the show "wXw Southern Expedition" took place in Mannheim for the first time. On September 19 and 26 of the same year shows were held in Bocholt ("wXw Full Force VIII") and Chemnitz ("wXw Full Force IX: Eastern Expedition"). On November 21st and 28th, 2009 the events took place in Frankfurt am Main and Wiesbaden. The shows “wXw / GHW At Sinallneon Celebrity Deathmatch Party” and “wXw / GHW United We Stand” were held together with German Hurricane Wrestling (GHW) .

Collaboration with Dragon Gate and Combat Zone Wrestling

On October 30, 2009, Westside Xtreme Wrestling worked for the first time with the Japanese promotion Dragon Gate . The joint show took place in Oberhausen and was called "wXw / Dragon Gate Open twxwhe German Gate". Also in October 2009 the collaboration with the US promotion Combat Zone Wrestling was strengthened. Sun won Thumbtack Jack in "Tournament Of Death Rewind" the "CZW Ultraviolent Underground Championship" of Sami Callihan and could hold that title for 84 days. In the main event, MASADA and Thumbtack Jack faced each other. In “Tournament Of Death Rewind”, the management of the CZW finally passed from John Zandig to DJ Hyde , and the CZW began to integrate the German promotion into the further actions ( storyline ). So now a feud between DJ Hyde and Thumbtack Jack was written, which should find its conclusion on November 6th 2010 in a street fight . For example, Westside Xtreme Wrestling was the first ever German-language promotion in the United States when it held the show "wXw The Vision" in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania .

But with the sudden end of Thumbtack Jack's career, the storyline had to be rewritten. He took part in "wXw HATEs Fuckin 'Birthday Show" in Oberhausen on October 2nd, 2010 and broke a thoracic vertebra during a re-match against MASADA and had to end his career on October 4th for health reasons. Instead, Bad Bones competed against DJ Hyde in a “street fight” that took place at the “CZW Life in Germany” event in Oberhausen. The day before, Westside Xtreme Wrestling held the “wXw Fight Club 2010” in Bocholt , which was also reported by several media. For example, a TV team was on site. On November 7th, 2010 Combat Zone Wrestling and Westside Xtreme Wrestling jointly organized the show “TOD vs Gorefest” in Oberhausen. This event was not publicly advertised and was aimed at an adult audience. The American Nick Gage emerged as the winner .

Shows in the United States and Japan

From April 8-10, 2011, three shows were held in the United States. The wXw first organized a cooperation show with the NWA Force-1 in Egg Harbor , New Jersey . On the other two days separate shows were held under the title "wXw Kreuzzug ZXI" in the ECW arena in Philadelphia and in Union City , New Jersey. The show in Philadelphia was broadcast on the Internet for the first time in the history of wXw via the iPPV provider Hybrident.tv.

In April 2011, Westside Xtreme Wrestling was invited to participate in three shows by the Japanese promotion Big Japan Pro Wrestling . Between April 24 and May 5, 2011, a wrestler from the current wXw roster took part in Tokyo and Yokohama. At the show on May 2nd, wrestler Big Daddy Walter won the wXw Unified World Championship from Daisuke Sekimoto , who had held it since January 15th.

Takeover of German Stampede Wrestling

On November 5th, 2011 it was announced in Marburg that the promotion German Stampede Wrestling has passed into the possession of Westside Xtreme Wrestling. The previous owner Ingo Vollenberg is the local wXw representative.

World Triangle League

On June 1, 2013, during the Dead End XIII event , wXw managing director Christian Michael Jakobi announced that the existing cooperation with the wrestling leagues Big Japan and Combat Zone Wrestling was strengthened and in October 2013 with a joint event banner called the World Triangle League should be expanded. Due to Big Japan's financial difficulties, there was no World Triangle League in 2015.

Westside Dojo, Freestyle Championship Wrestling and Westside Dojo eV - offspring of the wXw

When the "wXw Deutschland Gbr" was founded in December 2006, a wrestling school called Westside Dojo was set up, which was originally located in Krefeld . In addition to its own permanent staff, this wrestling school also had well-known guest trainers. The IWA / CZW wrestler Drake Younger was signed there several times. In addition to the actual wXw events, which take place monthly, the school also organized its own shows. Here, her wrestling students gained their first booking and wrestling experiences in front of a paying audience.

In 2009 the wXw wrestling school was closed and instead a close cooperation with the Dortmund- based Promotion Freestyle Championship Wrestling (FCW) started . This was converted into a kind of "wXw development territory " and should now take the place of the dissolved wXw school. But already on August 25, 2010 this cooperation was terminated and the Promotion FCW and its sponsoring association were closed. Their functions were now taken over by the Westside Dojo eV , which was newly founded on August 17, 2010. With a few exceptions, the “Westside Dojo eV” took over the formerly active members and the club members of FCW. Christian Michael Jakobi became chairman of the association. The association is responsible for the Westside Dojo Pro Wrestling School , the official wXw wrestling school.

Since 2011, the Westside Dojo has also been cooperating with Japanese wrestling schools. In June 2011 there was an exchange of dojo students with Big Japan Pro Wrestling.

ambition

"Ambition" is a show format that is organized in the "open tournament" style and is based on the shoot style. Similar to the "16 Carat Gold" structure, the viewer is given the impression that this is an open tournament, in which the storyline would not work, especially since it is suggested that the participants face their martial arts background would have to. Wrestlers from different fields compete against each other: Boxers vs. Judoka or wrestler vs. MMA fighter . Usually eight participants compete in four singlematches, the winners advance to the next round. The winner is whoever knocks his opponent out, surrenders or the referee has to break off the fight. With “Ambition” the wXw wants to show how important a sporting background is in wrestling and which sports these are.

The highlight is a 30-men-battle-royal in the same style: two wrestlers start, every 90 seconds a new wrestler enters the ring. A wrestler can only be eliminated if he is carried outside via the upper rope and then touches the hall floor with both legs. The winner is the wrestler who is last in the ring and is thus entitled to a title match for the wXw Unified World Wrestling Championship.
