Union City is a city in Hudson County , New Jersey , United States . The 2010 census recorded a population of 66,455. Union City is not far from the Hudson River and therefore in close proximity to the metropolis of New York City . Union City was the most densely populated city in the United States based on the 2000 census results . It also has a very high proportion of Latin American immigrants ( Hispanics ).
Union City emerged on January 1, 1925 from a merger of the previously independent communities of West Hoboken and Union Hill .
Union City was named the most pedestrian-friendly city in the United States in a 2011 pedestrian-friendly index.

The city's geographic coordinates are 40 ° 46'4 "north latitude and 74 ° 1'55" west longitude.

The main shopping street is Bergenline Avenue with over 300 shops . It runs through the entire city area and is considered the longest shopping street in the state of New Jersey.

As of the 2000 census, there are 67,088 people, 22,872 households and 16,056 families in the city. The population density is 20,395.9 inhabitants per km². 58.38% of the population are White, 3.64% African American , 0.70% Native American , 2.15% Asian , 0.08% Pacific Islander , 28.19% Other Ethnicity, and 6.87% Mixed Race . 82.32% are Latinos of any race .
Of the 22,872 households, 36.6% have children under the age of 18. 42.4% of them are married couples living together, 19.3% are single mothers, 29.8% are not families, 23.0% consist of single households and 7.5% people are older than 65. The average household size is 2, 92, the average family size 3.40.
25.3% of the population are under 18 years old, 11.0% between 18 and 24, 34.3% between 25 and 44, 19.4% between 45 and 64, 10.0% older than 65. The average age is 32 years. The ratio of women to men is 100: 100.6, for people older than 18 the ratio is 100: 98.8.
