Hudson County is a county in the state of New Jersey . The county seat is Jersey City .
geography
The county has an area of 162 square kilometers, of which 41 square kilometers are water. It is bordered in a clockwise direction by the following counties: Bergen County , Union County, and Essex Counties .
Hudson County has a partnership with Oberhavel County , with which it has in common the location on the edge of a cosmopolitan city and the naming after a river.
history
Hudson County has a national monument , the Statue of Liberty National Monument . Three places in the county have National Historic Landmark status , the Clark Thread Company Historic District , the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company Warehouse, and the Holland Tunnel . A total of 56 buildings and sites in the county are registered on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 15, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , the county had 608,975 people. There were 230,546 households and 143,630 families. The population density was 5,036 people per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 55.58% White, 13.48% African American, 0.42% Native American, 9.35% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, and 15.48% other races Groups; 5.63% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 39.76% of the population.
Of the 230,546 households, 29.60% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 39.80% were married couples living together, 16.60% were single mothers. 37.70% were not families. 29.50% were single households and 9.60% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.60 and the average family size was 3.27.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 22.60% residents under 18 years of age, 10.40% between 18 and 24 years of age, 35.60% between 25 and 44 years of age, 20.00% between 45 and 64 years of age 11.40% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 34 years. For every 100 females there were 96.50 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 94.20 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 40,293 , and the median income for a family is $ 44,053. Males had a median income of $ 36,174 versus $ 31,037 for females. The per capita income was $ 21,154. 15.50% of the population and 13.30% of families are below the poverty line. 22.00% of these were under 18 years of age and 15.70% were 65 years of age or older.
