The Salem County is a county in the US state of New Jersey . At the 2010 census , the county had 66,083 people and a population density of 75.5 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Salem .
The Salem County is part of the Delaware Valley called metropolitan area around the city of Philadelphia .
geography
The county is located in southwest New Jersey at the confluence of the Delaware River and Delaware Bay across from the city of Wilmington in Delaware . Salem County covers an area of 965 square kilometers, 90 square kilometers of which is water. It borders on the following neighboring counties:

history
Salem County was founded in 1694 as one of two original counties in what was then West Jersey . It was named after the Hebrew word for peace.
One place in the county has the status of a National Historic Landmark , the Abel and Mary Nicholson House . A total of 24 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 16, 2018).
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census , Salem County had 66,083 people in 25,194 households. The population density was 75.5 inhabitants per square kilometer.
The racial the population was composed of 79.8 percent white, 14.1 percent African American, 0.4 percent Native American, 0.8 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 2.2 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 6.8 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Statistically, 2.57 people lived in each of the 25,194 households.
23.5 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 61.5 percent were between 18 and 64 and 15.0 percent were 65 years or older. 51.3 percent of the population was female.
The median income for a household was 52,958 USD . The per capita income was $ 27,391. 10.2 percent of the population lived below the poverty line.
