According to the 2000 census , the county had a population of 297,490. There were 108,984 households and 78,359 families. The population density was 377 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 79.34% White, 7.53% African American, 0.13% Native American, 8.38% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, and 2.74% other races Groups; 1.83% came from two or more races.
