Mercer County is a county in the state of New Jersey . The county seat is Trenton , which is also the capital of the state of New Jersey.
history
Mercer County is named after Hugh Mercer (1720–1777), a general in the American Revolutionary War .
14 locations in the county have National Historic Landmark status , including Albert Einstein House , Princeton Battlefield, and Washington's Crossing . A total of 105 buildings and sites in the county are listed on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 16, 2018).

The county had 350,761 people as of the 2000 census . There were 125,807 households and 86,303 families. The population density was 599 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 68.48% White, 19.81% African American, 0.20% Native American, 4.94% Asian, 0.10% Pacific Islander, and 4.29% other races Groups; 2.17% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 9.66% of the population.
Of the 125,807 households, 32.80% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 50.60% were married couples living together, 13.80% were single mothers. 31.40% were not families. 25.60% were single households and 9.90% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.62 and the average family size was 3.16.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.00% residents under the age of 18, 10.20% between 18 and 24 years old, 30.60% between 25 and 44 years old, 22.50% between 45 and 64 years old 12.60% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 94.90 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 92.00 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 56,613 , and the median income for a family is $ 68,494. Males had a median income of $ 47,444 versus $ 34,788 for females. The per capita income was $ 27,914. 8.60% of the population and 5.90% of families are below the poverty line. 10.60% of them were under 18 years of age and 8.40% were 65 years of age or older.
