The Gloucester County is a county in the US state of New Jersey . The county seat is Woodbury .
The Gloucester County is part of the Delaware Valley called metropolitan area around the city of Philadelphia .
geography
The county is located in the southern suburbs of Philadelphia in neighboring Pennsylvania , from which it is separated by the Delaware River . In the far west, the river forms the border with Delaware .
It has an area of 873 square kilometers, of which 32 square kilometers are water. Gloucester County consists largely of low-lying rivers and coastal plains. It's right on the Delaware River.
The highest point is a slight climb on County Route 654, south of Cross Keys, at 55 m above sea level. The lowest point is in the Delaware River. Part of the Great Egg Harbor River Conservation Area is located in this county.

history
After the country was first settled by Indians of the Lenni Lenape and the Susquehannock , the area on both sides of the lower Delaware River was first colonized by Swedes in 1638 and called New Sweden . After the end of Swedish rule in 1655, a change between English and Dutch sovereignty over the area, which lasted until 1674, was followed by the final connection to the English colonial territory in North America.
Gloucester County's beginnings go back to May 26, 1686, when a jurisdiction was established separate from that of Burlington County . On May 17, 1694, the county was officially established and added to the then West Jersey Province. It was named after the English city of Gloucester .
On February 7, 1837, Atlantic County was spun off and on March 13, 1844, Camden County was formed .
Woodbury, founded in 1683 by Henry Wood, is the oldest town in Gloucester County, after. During the colonization the region was strongly influenced by agriculture.
One place in the county has the status of a National Historic Landmark , the Red Bank Battlefield . 33 buildings and sites in the county are registered in the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 16, 2018).

According to the 2010 census , Gloucester County had 288,288 people in 100,680 households. The population density was 342.8 people per square kilometer. Statistically, there were 2.77 people each in the 100,680 households.
The racial the population was composed of 83.6 percent white, 10.1 percent African American, 0.2 percent Native American, 2.6 percent Asian and other ethnic groups; 2.1 percent were descended from two or more races. Regardless of ethnicity, 4.8 percent of the population was Hispanic or Latino of any race.
24.4 percent of the population were under 18 years old, 63.2 percent were between 18 and 64 and 12.4 percent were 65 years or older. 51.4 percent of the population was female.
