Morris County is a county in the US state of New Jersey . At the 2000 census , the county had 470,212 people and a population density of 387 people per square kilometer. The county seat is Morristown .

The county has an area of 1,247 square kilometers, of which 32 square kilometers are water. It is bordered clockwise by the following counties: Sussex County , Passaic County , Essex County , Union County , Somerset County , Hunterdon County, and Warren Counties .

In Morris County there is a national historical park , the Morristown National Historical Park . Three locations in the county have National Historic Landmark status , the Craftsman Farms , The Speedwell Village Factory, and the Thomas Nast Home . A total of 152 buildings and sites in the county are registered on the National Register of Historic Places (as of February 15, 2018).

According to the 2000 census , the county had a population of 470,212. There were 169,711 households and 124,907 families. The population density was 387 inhabitants per square kilometer. The racial the population was composed of 87.20% White, 2.80% African American, 0.12% Native American, 6.26% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, and 2.01% other races Groups; 1.56% were from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race was 7.79% of the population.
Of the 169,711 households, 35.40% had children and young people under the age of 18 living with them. 62.80% were married couples living together, 7.90% were single mothers. 26.40% were not families. 21.50% were single households and 7.30% had someone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.72 and the average family size was 3.18.
For the entire county, the population was composed of 24.80% residents under 18 years of age, 6.40% between 18 and 24 years of age, 31.90% between 25 and 44 years of age, 25.30% between 45 and 64 years of age 11.60% were 65 years of age or over. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.80 males, and for every 100 females aged 18 and over there were 92.70 males.
The median income for a household in the county is $ 77,340 , and the median income for a family is $ 89,773. Males had a median income of $ 60,165 versus $ 40,065 for females. The per capita income was $ 36,964. 3.90% of the population and 2.40% of families are below the poverty line. 3.70% of these were under 18 years of age and 5.30% were 65 years of age or older.
