Life

Starting in 2009, Danielson lived vegan for a while for health reasons , but was unable to maintain this due to work travel and a soy tolerance. Nevertheless, Danielson now lives as a vegetarian who is “mostly vegan”. On January 29, 2019, he presented his own Championship Belt, which was produced sustainably and vegan.

On April 11, 2014, he married Brianna Garcia-Colace, who is also under contract with WWE as Brie Bella .

Wrestling career

Independent Leagues (2000-2009)

Danielson began his career as a backyard wrestler and was then trained by Shawn Michaels , Tracy Smothers and William Regal . His active wrestling career began in 1999 at the age of 18 after training at Shawn Michaels' wrestling academy.

In the past Danielson competed for Pro Wrestling NOAH , Pro Wrestling Guerrilla , New Japan Pro Wrestling and IWA Mid-South and was also committed to the German Stampede Wrestling and westside Xtreme wrestling promotions in Germany .

Ring of Honor Wrestling (2002-2009)

In the past, Danielson competed for the Ring of Honor, among others .

Danielson worked as a trainer for the Ring of Honor Wrestling School in Bristol for the offspring.

After Danielson won the ROH World Title against James Gibson on September 17, 2005 , he was World Champion for over a year and only had to give up the title after a long feud against Homicide at the end of 2006 . He then paused for six months to recover from multiple injuries and then returned to ROH.

World Wrestling Entertainment (2010)

On June 9, 2008, Danielson played a dark match on RAW . However , he did not sign a contract with World Wrestling Entertainment until August 24, 2009.

He returned to WWE on February 23, 2010 under the name Daniel Bryan on the WWE NXT show . His mentor was The Miz according to the storyline . In the 12th episode of NXT, Bryan was officially eliminated by WWE management as he wasn't allowed to win any of his matches. As a result, he began a feud program with commentator Michael Cole , who made derogatory comments on Danielson. Danielson won a match against his former storyline mentor Miz.

On June 11, 2010, WWE announced Danielson's release. This happened because he choked on ring announcer Justin Roberts on the June 7, 2010 debut of the Nexus in RAW, of which Danielson was a member, with his tie. Since the Benoit tragedy , actions against the neck have been strictly forbidden in the WWE. Danielson accepted contracts for independent doctorates.

Return to the Independent Leagues (2010)

On July 3 and 4, 2010, he took part in the Oberhausen- based promotion westside Xtreme wrestling . On July 3, he was a participant in Broken Rulez X and a day later, on July 4, he was the winner of the Ambition tournament, the first shootfight tournament outside of Japan . Ambition was also the first Shootfight tournament held in Germany and thus for Europe , which was officially held openly and without a time limit for the matches, whereby it was clear to everyone present that the storyline also took hold at this tournament . On August 7, 2010 Danielson took part in the NWA Fanfest , in which he competed against the reigning NWA champion Adam Pearce for the NWA World title.

Return to WWE (since 2010)

World Heavyweight Champion and Team Hell No (2010-2013)

Danielson meanwhile signed another contract with World Wrestling Entertainment. Since August 15, 2010, he has been back on the RAW roster at SummerSlam . At the same time, he was allowed to do a few appearances in the independent sector, for which he was booked before his reinstatement. At the PPV Night of Champions 2010 he was allowed to defeat the reigning United States Champion The Miz and thus win the title himself. In late 2010, Danielson became Derrick Bateman's next season NXT mentor. On March 14, 2011, he lost the United States title to Sheamus .

As part of the WWE Draft , Danielson was switched to SmackDown on April 26, 2011 . On July 17, 2011, he won the SmackDown Roster's Money-in-the-Bank ladder match at the event of the same name . At the major event WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders & Chairs 2011 on December 18, 2011, he redeemed this suitcase for Big Show and won the World Heavyweight Championship . He lost the title in a match that lasted 18 seconds at WrestleMania 28 on April 1, 2012 to Sheamus.

This was followed by feud programs against CM Punk and Kane . In the course of the feud with Kane, Danielson formed the Tag Team Team Hell No with him and won the WWE Tag Team Championship from Kofi Kingston & R-Truth at Night of Champions on September 16, 2012 , before taking him to the May 19, 2013 Shield members Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins had to give up.

Yes! Movement and promotion to the main event (2013-2014)

On August 18, 2013 at PPV SummerSlam , Danielson won the WWE Championship from John Cena for the first time , but he had to give it back to Randy Orton that same evening after he redeemed his money-in-the-bank suitcase. At Night of the Champions on September 15, 2013, Danielson defeated Randy Orton to become WWE Champion for the second time. The following evening, the title of Triple H was taken from him after the controversial end of the title match by Night of Champions and declared vacant. Then there should be a rematch against Randy Orton at the PPV Battleground , which ended in a no contest . Only the second rematch three weeks later at the subsequent PPV Hell in a Cell brought a decision to Bryan's disadvantage, when his mentor Shawn Michaels , who was the special referee in this fight , attacked Bryan and thus stood against him and helped Randy Orton win . This feud ended after Hell In A Cell .

Together with CM Punk , Bryan denied a feud program with the Wyatt Family , before Bryan was briefly made a member of that group himself in late 2013.

After emerging from the Wyatt Family feuded Bryan against HHH . This feud culminated in a match against WrestleMania XXX on April 6, 2014 . Later that evening, Bryan won the WWE World Heavyweight Championship for the third time after a triple threat match against Randy Orton and Batista .

Injuries and Resignation (2014-2015)

A few weeks later Danielson had to give up the title due to a neck injury. Danielson returned to the WWE for the Royal Rumble 2015 and feuded against Roman Reigns for his guaranteed title chance at WrestleMania , as Reigns had previously won the Royal Rumble match. Danielson lost the match against Reigns at the February PPV Fastlane and was therefore not allowed to compete for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania .

Instead, he got into a feud for the WWE Intercontinental Title , which he won on March 29, 2015 at WrestleMania in a ladder match. This made him the 26th WWE Triple Crown Champion , winning the WWE World Heavyweight Title , the WWE Tag Team Title and the WWE Intercontinental Title in his career. On May 11, 2015 at Raw, Bryan resigned as a holder of the Intercontinental title for health reasons.

On February 8, 2016, Daniel Bryan announced his retirement from active wrestling on Twitter. Bryan recently suffered from persistent neck problems and a concussion and was no longer given ring clearance from WWE doctors.

SmackDown General Manager and Return to the Ring (2016-2018)

On July 18, 2016, he returned to the WWE in a new role and assumed the position of SmackDown General Manager, which he held until April 2018.

On March 20, 2018, WWE announced on all social media channels that Danielson had received ring approval again. On the same evening he was attacked by Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn after they had been released by him as part of the storyline. Now that he was actively participating in matches again, he resigned from the position of general manager of SmackDown Live . This was announced on the April 10, 2018 broadcast, and Paige became his successor. In the first few months he continued his role as Babyface and the Tag Team Hell No with Kane was reactivated for a short time. He feuded with Big Cass , The Miz, and AJ Styles .

The New Daniel Bryan (since 2018)

WWE Champion Daniel Bryan in 2019.

Since the end of 2018, Bryan changed his character from face to heel ("heel-turn"; change from good to bad). In his role, he criticizes humanity for its unsuspecting, wasteful and destructive treatment of its environment and nature. In order to clearly differentiate himself from his previous face role, he no longer carries out his formerly characteristic "Yes!" Calls and gestures, which the audience always enthusiastically imitated. He also calls himself The New Daniel Bryan . The trigger for the heel-turn was the title match against AJ Styles on November 13, 2018. Here he was able to win the WWE Championship for the fourth time in his career, but this was done after a forbidden blow below the belt, a classic heel move in wrestling .

After a few more matches and the further development of Bryan's role into an aggressive eco-activist, Rowan , who was returning from an injury break, joined him during the Royal Rumble on January 27, 2019 by intervening in a title match with AJ Styles in his favor. On the following SmackDown Live broadcast, Bryan tossed his WWE Championship belt into a garbage can in disgust because the belt was made of leather, a product that animals had to die for. At the same time he presented a new version of the title made of renewable, vegan materials (including hemp for the belt and oak for the decorations). He had announced this redesign of the title several weeks beforehand. His reign as WWE Champion lasted 145 days, losing the title to Kofi Kingston at WrestleMania 35 on April 7, 2019 . Bryan injured himself in this match and was out of action for almost a month, details of the injury were not disclosed.

On May 7, 2019 Bryan and his tag team partner Rowan won the vacant WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship by defeating The Usos . Bryan and his tag team partner Rowan played another match against The Usos on May 19, 2019 at WWE Money in the Bank , which they lost. On June 23, 2019, they defended the title against The Heavy Machinery at WWE Stomping Grounds. On July 17, 2019, they finally lost the title to The New Day at Extreme Rules , this reign lasted 68 days.
