Anno Saul (born November 14, 1963 in Bonn ) is a German screenwriter and film director .

Life

Saul grew up in the Rhineland as the son of a doctor . In 1983 he passed the Abitur at the Peter-Joerres-Gymnasium in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler . He then studied at the Munich University of Philosophy , then 1985–1990 feature film at the Munich University of Television and Film . 1987 was at its screenplay BR - teleplay kidnapping for beginners .

In 1991 his short film Unter Freunde received the Max Ophüls Prize . After several television films, he made his feature film debut Green Desert with Martina Gedeck in 1998 . After the television film Die Novizin , Kebab Connection was his second feature film , based on a book by Fatih Akin , Ruth Thoma and Jan Berger. In 2006 came his movie comedy Where's Fred? with Til Schweiger , Jürgen Vogel , Christoph Maria Herbst and Alexandra Maria Lara in the film theater. In 2009 the mystery thriller Die Tür followed with Mads Mikkelsen , Jessica Schwarz and Thomas Thieme . In 2013, the comedy Irre are Male with Marie Bäumer , Milan Peschel , Fahri Yardim and Josefine Preuß came to the cinemas.

Anno Saul was a lecturer at the International Film School Cologne (ifs). Since 2010 he has been a full member of the board of directors of the German Film Academy . He lives in Berlin .
