occupation

Reiff für die Insel - Katharina and the very big fish is a German TV film by Anno Saul from 2013 with Tanja Wedhorn in the leading role. It is the second episode of the ARD crime series Reiff for the island .

action

Katharina Reiff is about to finish her distance learning law degree and, at the request of her daughter Nele, use her new life on the island to get her helper syndrome under control. But just as she wants to send off her thesis on the last possible deadline, she witnesses the car accident of the new island pastor Alexander Larsen. She can't help it and first has to help. As a result, she missed the postwoman, who took the last ferry to the mainland and now does not have Katharina's draft with her. After Katharina became aware of the situation, she made the decision to look for a job. In order to earn money, she initially helps her mother in her pension. Completely unexpectedly, her postman Jonna offers to put the stamp of the day before on her letter. Katharina can hardly believe her luck.

Pastor Larsen has the assignment to dissolve the parish due to a lack of members and due to some events he predicts the end of the world. Since arson is piling up on the island, it seems to him a sure sign from the Lord . However, Katharina surprises the man when he drinks alcohol from the bottle in broad daylight, so that she is no longer surprised by his gloomy future scenarios. But she remains vigilant and can recognize a group of men who hang around the island at night. Katharina confronts her and suddenly recognizes her ex-boyfriend Clemens Flöter. In his company there are surveyors and Clemens tells her to work on behalf of a client as his lawyer on the island. Katharina found that very suspicious and she alerted Thies Quedens. However, this is no longer a police officer, as he no longer wants to carry a weapon for reasons of conscience. So she has to contact the new island policeman, who is not there yet. In the meantime, she finds out that the land on which she met Clemens belongs to the church. Their property is so large that a new owner would own almost the entire island. Katharina is determined to prevent this. She researched and found out that a certain “Gibertsen” from Munich is already a partner in Inselbank and now wants to buy the church's land in order to turn it into a holiday home.

Since Thies Quedens and the new police officer Fiete Finnsen think the pastor is the arsonist, Katharina tries to convince them that Gilbertsen is behind everything and what the purpose of his actions is. Because the land, which he cannot buy directly from the church because it has been leased on a long-term basis, has recently been damaged by the fires. The tenants are obviously to be compelled to take out a loan, so that Gilbertsen gets them into his dependency in this way. Thies makes sense and he works with Katharina. In a citizens' meeting they enlighten the islanders and make plans for what they can do most sensibly. Since very few of the people are still church members, Katharina proposes to change this. All should re-enter the church and celebrate this next Sunday when the bishop will be present. That could convince the bishop that her new pastor converted her and that closing the church would be a sin. During the week the islanders meet regularly in church to prepare everything well. So the bishop is very surprised when, contrary to all reports, he meets a very active parish on the island. He cannot and does not want to undertake the planned deedication of the church building because he must have “underestimated” something.

Clemens Flöter is extremely upset and in the end a woman Björnstedt from the island can be convicted as an arsonist. She had acted on behalf of Flöter.

criticism

Prisma.de said: “Anno Saul's work, which is always good for surprises and amazes with incidentally interspersed funny details on the edge of the picture, is becoming increasingly serious, but never loses its lightness. An all-round successful continuation of the crime series with dry North German humor. "
