The Peter-Joerres-Gymnasium (PJG for short) is a high school in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler in northern Rhineland-Palatinate . The school is sponsored by the Ahrweiler district .
history
In October 1855 a higher school was set up in Ahrweiler. On May 1, 1860, classes began at the high school in the White Tower. In 1865 the name was changed to "higher state school". In December 1944, bombs destroyed the building in Ahrweiler Wilhelmstrasse, but lessons were resumed on October 1, 1945, for the time being in the rooms of the "Viticulture School". In 1946 the school was moved back to the White Tower while the old school building was being rebuilt. On January 8, 1953, the reconstruction was completed and classes could now take place there. From then on, the school was called "Staatliches Neusprachliches Gymnasium Ahrweiler". In the following years, the building was expanded several times due to the growing number of students.
In 1984 the school was renamed by the district council , it was renamed “Peter-Joerres-Gymnasium” after the historian and first director of the school Peter Joerres . In 1993 it was decided to build another new school, construction began in 1996. In 1999, lessons could begin in the new building, which now had large green and sports facilities, on Uhlandstrasse in the historic Beul an der Ahr district . In 2010 the school celebrated its 150th anniversary.
