Peter Joerres

Peter Joerres (born July 29, 1837 in Weiden ; † April 1, 1915 in Ahrweiler , Rhineland-Palatinate ) was a German historian and local researcher . He is an honorary citizen of the city of Ahrweiler.

biography

Joerres was head of the community school from 1861 to 1902 . In 1908 he founded the Ahrgau Museum in Ahrweiler. He is the namesake for the Peter-Joerres-Gymnasium in Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler .

Joerres worked for " Wetzer and Weltes Kirchenlexikon" (Herder), for the "Rheinische Geschichtsbl Blätter ". Journal for the history, language and antiquities of the Middle and Lower Rhine ”and since 1886 in the“ Bonner Jahrbucher ”. In addition, in 1893 he was the editor and editor of the “Document Book of the St. Gereon Abbey in Cologne” with sources that had not been printed before. He published writings on (regional) history.
