history

Due to its strategic location in the defense of the Antwerp port, Brasschaat was an important military outpost during the First World War . Between 1937 and 1939 the facility was reinforced and expanded with bunkers and anti-tank traps. Fort Brasschaat , built in 1912, can be visited today. Many of the structures still in existence today serve as homes for bat colonies .

Brasschaat is known as the venue for international triathlon competitions, on June 27, 2010, for example, a Premium European Cup took place.
