Balen is a Belgian municipality in the Flanders region with 22,618 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019). It consists of the main town and the smaller district of Olmen .

Turnhout is 22 kilometers northwest, Antwerp 52 kilometers west and Brussels about 65 kilometers southwest.

The next motorway exits are at Geel on the A13 / E 313 and at Retie and Turnhout on the A21 / E 34 .

Balen has a regional train station on the Antwerp- Herentals - Mol - Balen - Hasselt railway line .

The Antwerp International Airport and the airport in the Dutch city of Eindhoven are the next regional airports and the airport Brussels National near the capital Brussels is an airport of international importance.
