Balen is a Belgian municipality in the Flanders region with 22,618 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2019). It consists of the main town and the smaller district of Olmen .
Turnhout is 22 kilometers northwest, Antwerp 52 kilometers west and Brussels about 65 kilometers southwest.
The next motorway exits are at Geel on the A13 / E 313 and at Retie and Turnhout on the A21 / E 34 .
Balen has a regional train station on the Antwerp- Herentals - Mol - Balen - Hasselt railway line .
