Bridge in Willebroek

Willebroek is a Belgian municipality in the Mechelen arrondissement in the province of Antwerp . It consists of the districts Blaasveld , Heindonk , Tisselt and Willebroek . With the construction of the A 12 motorway , part of the village of Breendonk with Fort Breendonk was separated from the municipality and therefore incorporated into Willebroek. Fort Breendonk has been a National Memorial since 1947.

etymology

The name of the Brandenburg village Wildenbruch was most likely transferred from Willebroek, which is recorded as Wildebroc in 1180 . "This name describes a settlement near a wild, barren swamp" or break .
