Career

Until 2009: beginnings and first successes

After moving from her native Greece to Willebroek , Belgium at a young age , Dimitri's interest in music began to grow and began to DJ in discos independently of Mike. After a while, his younger brother Mike also began to get involved in music. Together they performed several appearances in small clubs, including on the radio station "BeatFM". Dimitri decided to leave Flanders in 1999 and toured Europe. He lived on Mallorca and returned to Greece before moving to Ibiza in 2003, where he also played in big clubs such as Privilege and Space. In autumn 2006 Dimitri returned to Belgium to work with his brother Like Mike. He worked much more in the studio and produced in the hip-hop field.

In 2007 they released their first track Cocain / Eivissa . The Swedish DJ Axwell became aware of the brothers through their remix of the song Work That Body by the Belgian DJ duo Housetrap & Dave Lambert in 2008, and Abel Ramos signed a record deal with his record label “Axtone” with a remix for Rotterdam City of Love ". As a result, they initially received a lot of attention mainly as remixers. They received commissions for mixes for artists such as Jennifer Lopez , Lady Gaga , LMFAO and Snoop Dogg . Their first official single was released in collaboration with the DJ and producer diMARO and is entitled Control . The successor single Liquid Skies , which was released on May 26, 2009 as a collaboration with Belgian producer Jade, represents the duo's first chart success.

2010–2012: Success at Tomorrowland and "Smash the House"

In spring 2010 Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike founded their own record label "Smash the House", a sub-label of the successful Dutch label "Spinnin 'Records", to which they are still under contract today. In addition to their own, they also publish productions by artists such as Blasterjaxx , Twoloud , Dada Life , Wolfpack, Tara McDonald, Mitch Crow, Boostedkids, Michael Calfan and Yves V via “Smash the House” . Together with numerous other DJs, they started a label tour through Great Britain in 2014. Furthermore, in 2010 they were selected to produce the official anthem for the Tomorrowland Festival in Belgium . The result was the song Tomorrow (Give Into the Night) in cooperation with the Swedish DJ duo Dada Life and the singer Tara McDonald. In the following year they were the headliners there too and have become the figureheads of this globally popular EDM festival.

In 2011 they produced the Tomorrowland anthem a second time. It is called The Way We See the World and appeared with Afrojack and NERVO . The following songs Madagascar , with Yves V and Angger Dimas, Phat Brahms , with Steve Aoki and Momentum , with Regi brought the duo great success. With the second collaboration with Yves V Loops and Tings , the duo, like their predecessors, was able to move up into the Beatport Top 100. The 2012 Tomorrowland Aftermovie has already had over 100 million views on YouTube . In the DJ ranking "DJ Mag Top 100", they improved their position in 2012 from 79th to 38th and in 2013 to 6th.

In January 2013, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike released the track Madness in collaboration with Belgian DJ Coone and American rapper Lil Jon . The song embodies the house elements of the brothers as well as the hardstyle style of Coone and Rapparts by Lil Jon. The song advanced to the top 40 of the Belgian singles as well as the German iTunes charts and is decisive for the title of their first world tour Bringing the World Madness . The song is also the template for the track Don't Stop the Madness by Dutch DJ Hardwell in collaboration with W&W and rapper Fatman Scoop . The single Wakanda , released just a week later, together with the song Spaceman by Hardwell and Epic by Sandro Silva and Quintino, is considered to be the beginning of the electro house sub-genre Big-Room , which particularly hit the global dance scene from 2013 to 2016 coined.

In March 2013 the track Mammoth was released in collaboration with the German DJ and producer Moguai . The song developed into one of the most successful big room tracks of all time and is the first song by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike to enter the German single charts thanks to its release on the German record label Kontor Records . Furthermore, the song went into the Dutch and French charts. In early April 2013, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike released the song Turn It Up . They produced this together with the DJ duos GTA and Wolfpack. This is based on the big room co-founder Epic .

On July 1, 2013, the song More was released . This was created in collaboration with Laidback Luke . Originally, vocals from D12 should also be included, but only the instrumental version was released. In particular, a remix by the Dutch DJ duo Blasterjaxx ensured success. A few weeks later, the brothers released the new Tomorrowland anthem called Chattahoochee and, after the famous EDM festival in Belgium, announced that their first own festival would take place on December 21, 2013 in the Belgian city of Antwerp in the Sportpaleis Arena.

On September 2, 2013 the brothers released the instrumental piece Project T in collaboration with Sander van Doorn , which samples the track intro of the indie rock band The xx . A remix of Project T by the Dutch DJ Martin Garrix reached the Belgian charts as well as the singles charts in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Find Tomorrow (Ocarina) became the duo's second number two hit. This song also owes its great popularity to a big room remix, this time by the German DJ duo Bodybangers .

Their last single in 2013 is called Stampede and was recorded with the Canadian duo Dvbbs and the American DJ Borgeous , who are best known for the world hit Tsunami . Stampede's syntheses are based on the style of the track Tsunami . The track reached the single charts in the home of the duo, among other places. At the same time, a big-room remix for the song Eat Sleep Rave Repeat by British DJs Fatboy Slim , Riva Starr and Beardyman was released in collaboration with Ummet Ozcan . When the song was re-released as a Tomorrowland Remix, Dimitri Vegas, Like Mike and Ummet Ozcan were named as official performers. The remix reached several million views on YouTube and was also responsible for the song's chart entry in several songs.

After the soundtrack album was released on December 6, 2013, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike opened their first world tour Bringing Home the Madness on December 20, 2013 in Antwerp, Belgium . The soundtrack included numerous of the duo's songs as well as tracks by musicians such as Hardwell , Avicii , Nicky Romero and Sebastian Ingrosso . On December 31, 2013, the first edition of her comic appeared , which was created in cooperation with Tomorrowland and Paul Jenkins, the author of the Spider-Man comics. These are based on the music videos by Chattahoochee and Ocarina .

2014: Singles chart successes, 3 Are Legend and the Bringing-the-World-Madness-Tour

On January 11, 2014, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike released the song Check this Out . The song produced with Born Loud was released as a free download. Feedback was published on April 1, 2014 . The song was created in collaboration with Steve Aoki and Audioerotique.

GIPSY was released in April 2014 in collaboration with the Italian DJ duo Boostedkids. Although the song corresponds to the Big Room genre, it cannot be compared with the standard drop, as traditional elements of gipsy music were used here. The song advanced to the top 20 of the Belgian singles charts and was viewed several million times on YouTube. The successor single Tremor , which is a mixture of the Big Room and Melbourne Bounce style, was a success. The song was produced together with Martin Garrix and used as the anthem of the Sensation Festival 2014. Tremor was able to enter Austria, Belgium and for the first time also in Great Britain. Despite high download chart placements, the entry into the German single charts was only just missed.

As part of the Winter Music Conference in Miami , Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike had their first appearance together with the US-American DJ Steve Aoki on March 28, 2014 under the pseudonym 3 Are Legend . As a trio, they performed at Tomorrowland , Creamfields 2014 and Ultra 2015 , among others . They played their debut single We Are Legend on several appearances, but this was not released as a single. Several DJs and projects such as Levito, Warkids and Jaxx & Veda uploaded remakes of the song on the Internet and achieved several million clicks.

On June 9, 2014, they released the dancehall song Eparrei . The producers Fatboy Slim , Diplo and the Brazilian electro band Bonde do Rolê contributed to this. The song reached the top 5 in their homeland as the duo's fourth production. A remix by W&W in the big room style moved up to the top of the genre Beatport Top 100. In the same month the official Tomorrowland anthem, composed once more by the brothers, was released. In Waves W & W participated. The single reached Beatport within a few days - and also single-chart top 10 and.

On August 4, 2014, the Body Talk (Mammoth) followed , which is a vocal version of the instrumental Mammoth . The track is sung by the British singer Julian Perretta , who also appears in the official music video. The song reached number 2 on the Belgian singles chart. Also Nova , in collaboration with the German DJ and producer Tujamo was moved up front on the 2nd place. Five days later, they won the MTV EMA's vote for “Best Belgian Act” and were nominated for the “Best European Act”.

On December 19, 2014, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike opened their second tour Bringing the World Madness in Antwerp, just like a year before . A week beforehand, the soundtrack of the same name for the tour with songs by Dvbbs , Twoloud , Alesso , Tiësto and Martin Garrix , among others , was released on three CDs.

The first single in 2015 is titled Tales of Tomorrow and was recorded with Dutch DJ Fedde Le Grand and Julien Perretta. This track also entered the Belgian singles charts at number 2 and barely missed a position in Germany. In contrast to their previous hits, Tales of Tomorrow contains a less aggressive electro house drop, but the music video in particular has been criticized for its lack of creativity. On January 30, 2015, the Melbourne bounce single Louder was released on Spinnin 'Records , which was recorded together with the Italian DJ duo Vinai . After only two days, the track was in the top 10 of the Beatport Top 100.

With their appearance at the Ultra Music Festival together with Steve Aoki as "3 Are Legend" they announced the release of the song The Hum . It was published on April 20, 2015, but was already on the Internet at the end of 2014 under the title The Wolf . The reason for the wrong title was the use of the hum and knock from the film The Wolf of Wall Street , which Mark Hanna Jordan Belford teaches. In addition to Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Ummet Ozcan also took part in the song. The Melbourne Bounce and Big-Room inspired style is very similar to the songs Tremor and Raise Your Hands Up . After they always entered the Belgian single charts at number 2 with their last three singles, The Hum has now moved up to number one in the top 100 for the first time and they have also reached the download charts of numerous portals in Germany.

They played the song Higher Place for the first time when they performed at Tomorrowland Brasil 2015 . This turned out to be a collaboration with the US R&B musician Ne-Yo . More vocals were sung by Like Mike. A short time after its appearance, the single attracted a lot of attention on the Internet. It was initially praised in particular for the change from deep house to big room. As it turns out, however, the version was just a remix by the Dutch Dutch house duo Bassjackers . Together with the music recognition service Shazam , they announced information about the release and the performers of the untitled remixes of the song they had uploaded. The remixes come from Tujamo , Angemi and Wolfpack, among others . The release in their home country Belgium took place on July 6th, 2015. The track was able to advance to the top 10 of the iTunes charts there and reached number one in the tip charts in both the French and Dutch-speaking parts Belgium.

On October 16, 2015, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike reached number one for the first time in the DJ-Mag-Top-100 voting.

2016: Summer of Madness & "Bringing the Madness"

Beginning of 2016: "Arcade"

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike in Veltins-Arena at the Winter Edition of the BigCityBeats World Club Dome

In early 2016 the duo uploaded a stream of their performance in Antwerp. This is entitled "Bringing the Madness 3.0" and, like its two predecessors, took place in December. On this set they played a ton of unreleased songs, including with DJ Fresh . Also occurred Afrojack , Armin van Buuren and Ne-Yo on as special guests. The highlight was a vinyl set with loads of classic songs. The background was, among other things, the accusation of working with pre-sets . At the same time it was announced that the track Meet Her At Tomorrow, recorded together with Redfoo in 2013 , would be released in March 2016 on his studio album Party Rock Mension . The song premiered at Tomorrowland Festival 2014 and hasn't even played since.

The duo already played an unreleased song at Tomorrowland 2015, which attracted a lot of attention. This brought itself into the ears of the fans in particular with its mysterious atmosphere and its intro based on Armin van Buuren's ping pong . The song was heard again in the Tomorrowland Aftermovie, where it was officially announced for the first time that the " ID " was a collaboration with W&W. Towards the end of the year, numerous remakes under the title Fight spread on YouTube and SoundCloud. In mid-February 2016, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike finally announced that the song would be released on February 29, 2016, entitled Arcade . At the same time, they started a PR campaign on their website in which a selection of classic, well-known " arcade games " such as Mortal Kombat , Pac-Man or Donkey Kong can be played on a slot machine . The official music video, which appeared one day after the release on March 1, 2016, also shows the four comic-style producers being dragged into an arcade machine and assuming certain roles in various arcade games. The song was a great success and was in the top 10 of the Beatport charts and number one on the Belgian iTunes charts within a very short time.

Another song that was played in the aftermovie is called Melody . The song was created in collaboration with Steve Aoki and Ummet Ozcan . Originally the song was supposed to be released as "3 Are Legend", but due to the unreachable completion of their planned debut track We Are Legend , they decided to release the song under their pseudonyms. The release took place on April 18, 2016 via "Smash the House". The initial release took place only on Apple Music ; the song appeared on Beatport a week later. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike also announced that the song will act as the anthem for the 2016 European Football Championship . As a follow-up, Stay a While was released, which was a mix of deep and chill house.

Summer 2016: "Summer of Madness"

In the course of the DJ-Mag-Voting they started a week entitled “Summer of Madness”. This included 7 songs that were released over the 7 days. It all started with the song Hands Up, behind which the Van Gogh ID from 2014 was hidden. The song was produced in collaboration with Afrojack aka NLW. Furthermore appeared The Iceland , Roads with Deniz Koyu, the "Bringin-home-the-Madness" intro, the Brennan-Heart -Collab million and their remix of The Hills of The Weeknd . Shortly afterwards, they started a promotional campaign regarding their collaboration with Diplo Hey Baby . Shortly afterwards, they announced that they were planning to vote for the following releases. For the votes you should send them the respective votes under the hashtags “#NewMusic” and “#FreeMusic”. An intermediate result showed that We Are Legend with Steve Aoki and Insanity with Blasterjaxx are ahead. But before these releases, Jaguar appeared with Ummet Ozcan , Leaves, a cover version of the song Blood on the Leaves by Kanye West and the original 2012 version of Roads with Deniz Koyu. The whole thing was continued under the name "Sound of Madness". On Facebook, the duo had their remixes of Where Are Ü Now by Jack Ü and Justin Bieber voted together with W&W and Major Lazers , DJ Snakes and MØs Lean On . Your lean-on remix, which should also appear as a "VIP remix" in the meantime. Blasterjaxx posted on Twitter shortly afterwards that they had finished Insanity and premiered the final version in the 123rd episode of their Maxximize-on-Air podcast. The Big Room track was released as a free download on October 18, 2016.

On October 23, 2016, the song Haunted House of Madness was released as a free download in collaboration with the young Italian DJ Angemi. It was produced as part of the Haunted House at Walibi Belgium theme park opened by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike. It represents the hymn of the theme park and is based on the principles of the big room.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike already announced in an interview during Tomorrowland 2014 that they were in contact with Diplo and Major Lazer as a result of their remix to Bumaye (Watch Out For This) regarding a collaboration. They presented the result at Tomorrowland 2016. Unlike their remix, however, this one was more based on Major Lazer's 2015 summer hit Lean On . In the festival's aftermovie, the number was initially called “Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike vs. Major Lazer ”. For probably marketing reasons, the Major Lazer was changed to Diplo until the release on October 28th, 2016. The vocals were sung by Deb's Daughter.

End of 2016: record appearances

On November 12, 2016, they performed in the Veltins-Arena as part of the Winter Edition of the BigCityBeats World Club Dome . There the duo performed with Le Shuuk , Angemi, Wolfpack and MATTN as support acts between 40 and 60 thousand people and thus cracked the record of the biggest club and biggest DJ appearance by Hardwell from the previous year, which was also by BigCityBeats in the Schalke 04 stadium was held. While the acts received mostly good feedback, the BigCityBeats team came under fire due to the weak organization last year.

Dimitri Vegas during a performance in Madrid

During a press conference in the course of their appearance at the BigCityBeats Winter World Club Dome, they announced that the third soundtrack will also be released parallel to the third appearance in the Sportpalais at the end of the year. It is titled Bringing the Madness and will be released on December 16, 2016. In addition to the singles that have already been released, this will also feature the unreleased productions Ready For Action , OPA with KSHMR , the Futuristic Polar Bears remixes for Ocarina and Mammoth , as well as their remix for Lost Frequencies ' What Is Love 2016 . The second CD does not consist of an after- hour mix, as on the last album, but a rave mix consisting of songs from the hard trance line. These include, for example, Derb from Derb or The First Rebirth from Jones & Stephenson .

2017: New productions

Beginning of 2017: ongoing success with "Hey Baby"

On January 13, 2017, "Armada Music" released their What-Is-Love-2016 remix as a single in all download portals. In the Beatport genre charts, this was able to advance into the top 20. The song also climbed into the upper half of the iTunes charts in numerous countries. On January 27, 2017, the song Hey Baby was re-released , with the additional part of the American rapper Kid Ink . The music video was also redesigned and released on February 10, 2017. At the same time, the song reached its highest position in the German single charts.

On February 27, 2017, the Silence EP was published by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike themselves . This included the 2013 song More with Laidback Luke , the tracks Shout , Puente De Luz , Metz and Deep Sea . The background of the publication is not known, as any promotional campaigns were waived and the performers themselves did not comment on it. In addition, the songs are unplayed and stylistically do not fit into the duo's scheme. While Shout is still based on an electro-house pattern, Puente De Luz is a quiet piano number and behind Metz and Deep Sea are songs that have features from 90s house to techno productions. In addition, the More Club Mix has countless quality and mastering defects, which means that the release is described as very dubious. Within a few days, the Spotify EP disappeared, but was still available on iTunes.

On February 27, 2017, the song All Aboard was released , behind which the Bassjackers together with the Belgian DJ duo D'Angelo & Francis, who gained fame as rock stars through their Tomorrowland performance last year. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike are marked as "Editor" during the production and premiered the track at their Bringing-the-Madness performance in Antwerp. This was particularly noticeable due to its "Lights-Up-Lights-Down" performance.

Shortly afterwards, The Chainsmokers released their remix package for their single Something Just Like This . Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike also contributed a remix to this, which embodies a main part based on Garmani's Bomb a Drop .

On May 26, 2017, the duo released a remix on the classic " Pirates of the Caribbean " theme He's a Pirate . The release took place in the course of the release of the fifth part of the saga Salazar's Vengeance . Hans Zimmer , the co-composer of the original piece, is also named as the interpreter . With the reinterpretation, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike move into the field of trap music for the first time.

On May 31, 2017, Dimitri Vegas asked fans, like the previous summer, to vote on their upcoming release. According to the duo, the fans decided against OPA and Silence and for Ready For Action . The song was released as a single on June 2, 2017. The track was already on Bringing the Madness , but there it was called Action . Due to the similarity to Tremor , the song was traded as the second, previously announced collaboration with Martin Garrix.

Summer 2017: Complicated

From the beginning of June 2017, the duo repeatedly played a song that was designed in the Future Bass or Lovetrap style, which was very popular at the time . The track was used as the finale of their appearances, replacing the still unreleased song All I Need . Over the course of the weeks, David Guetta was announced as co-producer and Kiiara as guest singer. After the duo brought Kiiara on stage at Tomorrowland 2017 and David Guetta at a performance in their residence, the song was released as a single on July 28, 2017. For the first time since Project T they hit the official single charts of Germany, Austria and Switzerland at the same time. "Smash-the-House" DJ Angemi co-produced the song.

End of 2017: Crowd Control & another DJ-Mag success

During the “ Amsterdam Dance Event ” the song Crowd Control , which was played at many festivals, was released on October 20, 2017 as a collaboration with W&W . The song is based on the one hand on the idea of the song Orgasmo by Pavo & Zany, published in 2005 , whose vocals consist of the instructions “put it to the left, take it to the right”, and on the other hand on the fundamentals of a provisional hardstyle remix Stampede . During the drop, the duo encourages the festival crowd to put an arm over the shoulder of a neighbor and take eight steps to the left and right, so that the audience moves in one direction as a solid unit. Dimitri Vegas usually reflected the movement on the edge of the stage with the team or other DJs (e.g. Armin van Buuren at Tomorrowland or W&W at ADE), while Like Mike counted the steps behind the desk.

In the twentieth edition of the DJ-Mag Top 100 ranking, the duo was able to maintain its second place behind Martin Garrix and in front of Armin van Buuren.

On December 23, 2017, they gave their last Bringing-the-Madness concert in Antwerp, which had the motto Reflections . As a surprise, the duo brought Hardwell on stage for a guest appearance and the three of them played a 20-minute B2B set. During the performance they also premiered a joint collaboration, which caused a sensation, as Hardwell criticized the duo very much several years ago and it was suspected that this was the reason why the Dutchman has not performed at Tomorrowland since. Other guest appearances during the gig were made by Steve Angello, Afrojack, Ronnie Flex , Ali B and Boef.

On December 26, 2017, they released the long-awaited song We Are Legend as a free track, which they produced together with Steve Aoki , without any announcement or promotional campaign . The song was played for the first time in the summer of 2013 and was very popular. But the publication was delayed. The reason they gave in a Q&A was that they would work on the vocals. In the years that followed, the song was occasionally played as the intro of their Steve Aoki B2B sets. At Tomorrowland 2017, Aoki announced that they were planning to release the song later that year and played a vocal version of the song for the first time, sung by singer-songwriter Matthew Koma . The Belgian brothers, on the other hand, presented a version with female vocals, which also turned out to be the final version. The American singer and actress Abigail Breslin is behind the singing .

2018: focus on commercial singles & Tomorrowland EP

After the guest contribution by Ronnie Flex, Ali B and Boef at their Bringing-the-Madness concert, the jointly performed collaboration Slow Down appeared on January 28, 2018 , in which the Dutch DJ and producer Quintino and the singer I Am Aisha also took part . The track was part of the soundtrack of the Belgian crime film Patser , in which Dimitri Vegas also starred. Also with Quintino followed on 2 February 2018, the track Patser bounce , the more sound effects, including the well-known theme of Tetris and sounds from Super Mario Bros. Samplet.

On April 6, 2018, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike released their song The House of House, which premiered in the summer of the previous year . This was created in collaboration with the Israeli psychedelic trance duo Vini Vici and is strongly based on their style. The Belgian rave duo Cherrymoon Trax also worked on the song, which was the author of the original version of the song in 2002.

On May 4, 2018, the duo released the single All I Need two years after it premiered. However, this is a revised version. While in the original version only singer TYSM contributed her vocals, a guest part from the American rapper Gucci Mane was added for the final version . The previously aggressively designed drop has also been adapted to the future bass style. The track When I Grow Up , released a month later, follows on from the duo's commercial series. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike worked together with hip-hop musician Wiz Khalifa , whose lifestyle is also a theme in the song. Together they performed the song in June 2018 at EDC Las Vegas 2018.

For July 2018 the duo announced another "Summer of Madness". This will start on July 20, 2018 and reveal a new song every day for an entire week, which together ultimately form the so-called Tomorrowland EP . It started with the song Unity , a collaboration with the Dutch DJ and producer Hardwell . This was followed by a collaboration with Nicky Romero , who is called Here We Go (Hey Boy, Hey Girl) and uses a sample from the song Hey Boy, Hey Girl by The Chemical Brothers from that year. The following day the long-awaited song Opa , which was produced with KSHMR, was released.

On October 5, 2018, the song Bounce was released , which is a collaboration with the Dutch duo Bassjackers and the American producers Julian Banks and Snoop Dogg . In fact, the instrumental basis was created in the previous year by Vegas, Mike and Bassjackers as well as the vocals by Banks and Snoop Dogg independently of each other.

2019: Dutch single & Tomorrowland EP 2019

Premiered at the Garden of Madness concert in December of the previous year, the song Daar gaat ze (Nooit verdiend) , which was composed with the Dutch DJ Frenna , was released on February 1, 2019 . It was recorded in Dutch. It reached number 32 on the Flemish singles chart. The song Selfish , sung by the Kosovar Albanian singer Era Istrefi , followed on February 15, 2019 . They performed the song together at the Garden of Madness. It contains a sample from the piece Africa by the American band Toto from 1982. They already embodied parts of Africa in their unreleased piece Yemaya .

On April 19, 2019, the EDM track You're Next was released from another collaboration with Bassjackers. The song was used as the anthem of the eleventh edition of the video game Mortal Kombat .

Last year, the song was presented to Instagram , a collaboration with French musician David Guetta , Latin pop rapper Daddy Yankee , Afro Bros and singer Natti Natasha . On July 5, 2019, the song was released in a slightly modified version, while it was traded as a summer hit.

During the summer of 2019, the duo released the Tomorrowland EP 2019 , track by track , which included new productions as well as older, long-awaited pieces. It started with the instrumental piece Yemaya , which was first heard in her Tomorrowland recap in September 2012. After it was released in February 2019 in a drastically modified version as Selfish , it was released on July 19, 2019 as Tomorrowland Aftermovie 2013 Remix for Selfish . On July 21, 2019, the song Mortal Kombat (Anthem) followed as the second release of the EP , which, like their last Mortal Kombat dedication, was created in collaboration with Bassjackers. They were also assisted by the German composer duo 2WEI, which are known for their intro versions of a large number of successful songs.

On July 26th, 2019 Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike released their second collaboration with Steve Aoki, this time under the pseudonym 3 Are Legend. This is called Khaleesi and was produced together with W&W. The title originally sampled the melody of the song Komodo (Save a Soul) by Mauro Picotto from 2000. To avoid copyright problems, they removed the sample and mixed up the song again. The title is based on the character of the same name from the American fantasy television series Game of Thrones . On the same day, the song Turn Up was released as the third release of their Tomorrowland EP . This is a collaboration with the Dutch producer John Christian. The following day they released a remix of their Instagram single with David Guetta, Daddy Yankee, Afro Bros and Natti Natasha, which was produced by Bassjackers.

On August 2, 2019, the single K20 was released , a previously unplayed title. It was created in collaboration with the Italian DJ and producer Angemi, who co-produced her songs Complicated and All I Need , among others . K20 corresponds to a more commercial, future-bass-heavy style. On the same day they also released the song Boing from their Tomorrowland EP . This was created in collaboration with Quintino and Mad MAC With the songs Everybody Clap with Nicky Romero and Mortal Kombat Anthem with Bassjackers and 2wei, two more singles followed. The latter served as the anthem for the video game of the same name . On September 13, 2019 the single The Flight was released , which was created in cooperation with Bassjackers and the Belgian DJ duo D'Angelo & Francis.

The song Beast (All as One) , released on November 15, 2019, is a remix of the song Cambodia by Kim Wilde from 1981. It was produced in collaboration with the Dutch musicians Ummet Ozcan and Brennan Heart . Two weeks later followed the release of the song Boomshakalaka , a radio single, on which they worked again with Afro Bros. The vocals were contributed by the Colombian singers Sebastián Yatra and Camilo as well as the Argentine singer Emilia Mernes.

2020: Garden of Madness 2020 EP

On January 17, 2020, the duo released the single The Anthem (The Old One) , which was created in collaboration with Australian DJ and producer Timmy Trumpet . The melody of the song is based on the Dessau March of Leopold I von Anhalt-Dessau from the early 18th century. The song The Chase followed in March 2020, adapting the melody of the folk song Son ar chistr by Jean Bernard and Jean-Marie Prima from 1929. It was produced in collaboration with Quintino. The single Happy Together Bassjackers followed on April 24, 2020 , which is a remix of the song of the same name by the American rock band The Turtles . In May 2020 they released the single Raver Dome with Steve Aoki as 3 Are Legends and in collaboration with the Dutch producers Justin Prime and Sandro Silva . On May 15, 2019, the Garden of Madness 2020 EP was released , including all the singles that have been released since The Flight and a new remix of the song Ocarina , produced by Bassjackers, from 2013 and the song Girlz Wanna Have Fun by Mattn, Stavros Martina and Kevin D included. The single Clap Your Hands followed on May 29, 2020 , which was created together with W&W and Fedde Le Grand.

Studio album & unreleased productions

Furthermore, a studio album has been announced since 2013, which has now been postponed several times (currently until spring 2017). This should include new collaborations with Stromae , Martin Garrix and Vassy as well as numerous songs that have already been played on live shows. In a Question and Answers , Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike announced that they had only planned their own productions for the album and had no remixes planned. The whole thing was received rather critically by their fans, as the demand for their remixes for, among others, Ten Walls' Walking with Elephants or Jack Üs and Justin Biebers Where Are Ü Now has been enormous for a long time and is hoping for a release together with the album has been. It was also announced there that their songs Destruction with Diplo and DJ Ghost as well as Insanity with Blasterjaxx , which was not yet planned for publication , would not appear. Most recently they stated that the productions Yemaya , We Are Legend as 3 Are Legend and Whisper , together with Tiësto, have not yet been released due to the search for vocals. Nevertheless, a number of unpublished songs have been played by the duo themselves in aftermovies at various festivals as well as in radio shows and podcasts and are finding their way onto the Internet. The YouTube and SoundCloud platforms also publish numerous remakes or even tracks from projects such as Jaxx & Vega ( Louder , Van Gogh , We Are Legend ) and Merzo ( Stampede , Insanity ) that are based on previews or rips.

Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike produced MacBooks with Logic Pro on Apple , which they justify with the use of the Focus Forte interface, slim line controllers and speaker monitors.

Allegations and criticism

Ghost production and obfuscation

Between 2012 and 2014, ghost producers were drawn to the EDM scene through the ghost production of Maarten Vorwerk at Sandro Silvas and Quintinos Epic . In the repertoire of the collecting society ASCAP , Vorwerk was also named in the credits of Wakanda as a producer, which quickly moved them into the focus of many rumors. Vorwerk disappeared from the credits on other songs, although the duo mentioned in an interview with YourEDM that they would mention any other producers. In an interview with the online magazine Dance-Charts , the German DJ and producer Tujamo said:

“They are already working with us. Of course, they didn’t participate in the production, that’s clear, but they always have good arguments, make good suggestions for changes, and have good ideas. Sure, they didn't do all the productions themselves, everyone knows that by now, but they work very hard in a different way, especially in the area of social media and so on, which is not to be despised by now. "

Critics also criticize the fact that the duo's productions lack a “personal touch”. Songs like Tremor only have stylistic means from Martin Garrix or The Hum only those from Ummet Ozcan . Furthermore, their names disappear or appear randomly from different titles. For example, W&W told in a vlog that they had completed a remix of Where Are Ü Now by Jack Ü and Justin Bieber during the flight for one of their performances . Later the name of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike was next to that of W&W in a tracklist. In their "Smash-the-House" episode in the course of their appearance in Antwerp in 2014 it was said that they had produced a remix for Strange Entity by Oscar & The Wolf together with Boostedkids . But when they were released, their names were no longer on the cover.

Disproportionate advertising campaigns

In connection with their victory in the 2015 DJ-Mag-Votings, voices were raised that the two DJs had bought the votes. At concerts and festivals where Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike played, young women with iPads are said to have tried to convince fans to vote for them immediately. But schools were also visited during the breaks because most young people were particularly easy to persuade. The management of Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike commented on the allegations:

“Like all the other DJs, we have indeed started an advertising campaign. Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike deserved to win. You are now traveling the world. And wherever they put on a show, it sells out in no time. That's why they won, and not because of the iPad votes. It's fun to win, not lose. "

Alleged technical rider

In autumn 2016, the so-called alleged technical rider of the duo was circulating on the Internet. This listed all claims in the case of a booking. The duo received criticism for the probably utopian conditions of the festival operator, who was divided into “before the show”, “during the show” and “after the show”. These included over 100 drinks bottles, 6 pizzas, 10 McChicken burgers as well as 10 lottery tickets, charging cables, 4 boxes of cigarettes and hotel room keys.
