Twoloud is the name of a German DJ duo consisting of the members Manuel Reuter (alias Manian ) and Dennis Nicholls (alias D-Style). While D-Style only works as a DJ for the live performances with Manian, the German songwriter and producer Alex Castle Reuther is there for the productions. The duo was founded in 2013 and has since been mainly active in the music genres of Progressive House , Big-Room and, since 2015, in Future House. Due to songwriting and production contributions, it is often assumed that Alex Castle is also a member of the group. Twoloud himself has not yet commented on who is part of the project. They drew attention to themselves through the long uncertainty about who is hiding behind the duo. The duo celebrated their musical breakthrough with their debut single Big Bang as well as with their first remixes. In addition, she announced the support of other DJs like Tiësto and Hardwell , as well as platforms like YouTube and Spotify.

history

2013: beginnings, first record deals and collaborations

The “Twoloud” project was founded in summer 2013 by DJs Manuel Reuter and Dennis Nicholls. Both are also members of the Spencer & Hill project . In October 2013 they released their first single Big Bang , which is a variation of different genres with a progressive house and a big room drop as well as moves of trance music. The use of the song on different compilations such as " Future Trance " or "Nature One" and a hardstyle remix by the Dutch DJ duo Bass Modulators increased the popularity of the song. After the track's great success on music platforms such as Beatport and Spotify , Twoloud signed a contract with the successful Dutch record label Spinnin 'Records .

The contract with Spinnin 'Records resulted in several collaborations with the Dutch DJ Tiësto , which resulted in a remake of his instrumental piece Traffic . It was released as a single on December 16, 2013. It received mostly positive reviews. It was criticized, however, that the drop can be classified too much in the music genre of trance, since the predecessor Big Bang was expected to be a song in the big room style. In addition to Traffic , remixes for the songs The Spark by Afrojack with Spree Wilson, Hardwell and Matthew Komas Dare You and Tiësto's own song Red Lights have been released in collaboration with Tiësto .

After remixing for Nervo , Dash Berlin and Plastik Funk , they released Track One on February 17, 2014 , the drop of which is based on the electro-house genre. Shortly afterwards, the song Rockin was released , which the duo recorded on Spinnin 'Records with the Dutch DJ Julian Jordan . It contains both progressive and electro elements. A month later, Drop It Like This was released , a collaboration with Tiësto that took place in parallel with work on a remix for Tiësto's song Wasted . The style of the track is a mix of funk and garage house . Together with the Spanish DJ Danny Avila, they released the Melbourne bounce song Rock the Place in April 2014 . The track was released on Tiësto's own record label "Musical Freedom". Rumor has it that the Dutch “ghost producer” Maarten Vorwerk was one of the producers. Following the single release, the duo started their first world tour, which is why no releases were planned until summer 2014. Just a few days after Rock the Place , the track Greatest DJ was released , which is a cover version of the song of the same name by Lexy & K-Paul from 1999. Here Twoloud tried an electro house drop. The song was released via Armin van Buuren's record label Armada Music , with the publication exclusively on the music platform "Beatport".

Summer 2014: decisive success with, among others, I'm Alive

On June 23, 2014, Twoloud released one of their biggest hits to date, I'm Alive , which they wrote together with Tiësto and Alex Castle. The song was released on the record labels Spinnin 'Records , Kontor Records and Smash the House by the Belgian DJ duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike . The official music video has been viewed several million times to date and barely missed a position in the German single charts. The track also appeared on numerous samplers such as Kontor Festival Sounds or the NRJ Mastermix . Parallel to their own release, other remixes appeared for the tracks Ten Feet Tall by Afrojack, A Light that Never Comes by Steve Aoki and Linkin Park , #Selfie by the Chainsmokers , which they produced together with Steve Aoki, and a joint mix with Tiësto to You from the Galantis. All of them were mixed in a big room style.

After the success of I'm Alive , the duo released the song Twisted as a single. The song is a remake of the song of the same name by DJ duo Johan Gielen & Sven Maes from 2001. It is similar to the songs Big Bang and Traffic on the trance style of the original with a big room drop in the second part of the song mixed. The song is the first release on Doorn Records , the record label of the Dutch DJ Sander van Doorn . On July 4th, 2014 previously published piece appeared even after a few months Track One the successor Track Two , which due to reaching 200,000 Likes on their Facebook - page was provided as a free download. When the song was released, they announced that they would publish one more free track for every 100,000 more likes on their Facebook profile. Just a month later, Track Three was released for reaching 300,000 fans.

The duo released two more songs in September 2014. With their first release We Are the Ones they made another big step in their career. The song is a collaboration with singer Christian Burns and the first vocal house as well as the first high-energy production of the project. The song surprised the duo's fans a lot, but it was almost exclusively positive. With the following single Goin 'Down , which was created in collaboration with the also German DJ and producer Deniz Koyu, they presented another new side of their style. The song was promoted by the Dutch DJ Nicky Romero in his weekly podcast "Protocol Radio".

Winter 2014 until today: great success as a remixer

On October 27, 2014, they released their next single Get Down , which they recorded in collaboration with the American rapper Will Brennan. The song is based on a Melbourne Bounce style, which is why the duo came under fire because the style does not stand out from the crowd. With remixes for the songs Bad by David Guetta and Showtek as well as Summer by British DJ Calvin Harris , the duo again received a lot of positive feedback. In his Hardwell On Air episode “Yearmix 2014 Part 1”, Hardwell presented the Twoloud remix for his and Tiësto's song Zero 76 from 2011. The big room mix was accessed hundreds of thousands of times within a few weeks and described as the best transition to 2015. The remake was released as a free download on the musicians' websites. Another remix followed together with Tiësto. This was done to the song Don't Leave by the American DJ Seven Lions in collaboration with the British singer Ellie Goulding .

Twoloud started 2015 by founding her own label “Playbox Music”. The first release was their single The Biz , which embodies the duo's big room style. Although the track received no support from other DJs, it was presented on different samplers. A week later, a remake of the trance classic Outside World by the German DJ duo Sunbeam from 1999 was released. The remake contains similar to earlier Twoloud remakes of well-known 1990s hits, strong influence from progressive and trance music. On February 9, 2015, the instrumental piece The Drums was released on "Doorn Records". The song was created in collaboration with Sonic One and draws attention especially through the drop, which is based on tribal drums .

In mid-February 2015, another song from the project was presented in episode 244 of the podcast “ Mainstage Music ” by the Dutch DJ duo W&W . The track is called Right Now and is based on both classical dance elements and an electro-house drop. The song was released as a single on March 2, 2015, just one week after the release of an electro house remix for the track Pressure by the DJ duo Dirty Rush & Gregor Es. At the same time, the Italian DJ duo Vinai played the song Feel Alive , which Manian and D-Style recorded together with the musician Emma Hewitt in one of their weekly podcasts. The song was strongly influenced by characteristics of trance music. A release date has not yet been announced. On March 16, 2015, the single Color Pop followed in collaboration with the Swedish newcomer Kaaze. The track is their first release in the field of the currently very popular future house.

At the end of March 2015, the first previews of a remix for the song Onyx by Lars Pager and Derek Hake appeared on the Internet . The mix is heavily progressive house-heavy and received very positive reviews in advance. This was for sale on April 6, 2015. A few weeks earlier, on March 21, 2015, a joint remix with Tiësto premiered on BBC Radio . This was done for the folk song Home by the Dutch singer Dotan . After only a short time, the full version spread on the Internet, but no release date is known. At the same time, the release of their single Move was announced for April 20, 2015 . However, the release only included a remix version by the Dutch DJ duo Showtek . The single belongs to the electro-house genre, although it also has elements of dancehall and reggae.

On May 22, 2015, Twoloud released the song Higher Off the Ground on "Kontor Records" and "Playbox" . In contrast to their electro-house-heavy songs, this track was produced in Future House, which is currently very popular. A week before it was released, the song was made available for download on iTunes and was able to advance into the German iTunes charts. With the following singles Perfection , which they recorded with Qulinez, Hope with Bounce Inc. and Maji , together with Kaaze, they presented their original big room style again. The track One More , which was produced with Konih, once again reflects pure future house. In October 2015, Twoloud released their first EP on "Playbox" with the title Music Madders on which five new productions could be heard. None of them appeared as single.

Music genre

Twoloud's style is expansive. You are one of the few German projects to produce in all areas of house music. The duo is strongly influenced by the sound of the Dutch synths and is based on the style of various projects originating there. The lead sound of the song Greatest DJ, for example, is strongly compared to that of the DJ duo Showtek . It was similar with the songs Drop It Like This , which is said to have Tujamos influence and I'm Alive to be similar to the songs of the duo Dvbbs . However, critics stated that all of Twoloud's songs have certain characteristics that make the style unique. especially the remakes of some 1990s tracks show their style. They contain the scheme of the original or its trance elements, but are equipped with modern EDM elements. All in all, the DJ duo can be classified into the genres of big room and progressive house.

Members

For a long time the members remained unrecognized. On their live performances they appeared in ninja costumes and they were never recognizable on their single covers either. For a long time Twoloud was thought to be a joint project between the Dutch DJs Hardwell and Tiësto . Unknown artists also took advantage of this and announced they were Twoloud. In mid-2014, however, it was officially announced that Twoloud was a German project by the two DJs Manian and D-Style. Reasons for this were pictures on which the duo was half visible and the credits of their songs. However, the rumors about the Hardwell-Tiësto variant did not stop. It is also unclear whether Alex Castle: (* 1982 in Bonn, bourgeois Alexander Thomas ) is a member of the project. He is mentioned as the author on the majority of their songs, but was not on any of their performances.

  • D-Style: (real name Dennis Nicholls ) is a German music producer and DJ . Also known under the pseudonym Verano , he is active as a remixer and producer. In 2006 he joined the Spencer & Hill project, which strengthened the work with Manian. He also started as a hands-up producer and switched to house music in 2012.
