Showtek is a Dutch producer - and DJ - duo consisting of brothers Sjoerd Janssen (aka DJ Duro) and Wouter Janssen (aka Walt). They first gained fame in 2003 in the field of hardstyle, while they celebrated a world hit in 2013 with the electro house song Booyah .
history
2001 to 2010: Advancement in the hardstyle line
The two brothers grew up in Eindhoven, the Netherlands and were inspired by electronic music at a young age. In 2001 they finally founded the Showtek project and began to draw attention to themselves both as a remixer and with their own songs in the field of hardstyle .
In March 2003, the duo achieved their international breakthrough with the track Be you ready . At the same time, a collaboration with the media company ID&T began , which gave them access to various festivals. Furthermore, her songs were used on numerous samplers, as well as appearances at events such as Qlimax , Hardbass or InQontrol. In late 2008 they toured Australia as X-Qlusive Showtek .
In 2009 the Janssen brothers continued the hardstyle compilation series by producer Blutonium Boy and made it with their tracks on samplers such as Hardstyle Vol. 18 . Her own recordings have all been released on her own label, Dutch Master Works.
2010 to 2012: Removal from hardstyle
In February 2010, Showtek announced that they will not be taking any more bookings from the Platinum Agency as they will move further away from the hardstyle genre to embody their own style. Nevertheless, in collaborations with other Hardstyle projects such as Noisecontrollers in the single Get Loose, selected songs in the original Showtek style appeared. On the other hand, the greatest success of the song Get Loose , a remix by Tiësto .
Due to the dwindling success, the duo's music style developed into house music, mainly and electro house . With the track Cannonball , which they recorded in collaboration with the also Dutch DJ and producer Justin Prime, their first EDM release appeared, which was able to advance to the top 10 of the Dutch singles charts within a very short time. The vocal version Earthquake with the American singer-songwriter Matthew Koma , released a year later, brought the track into the British singles charts.
How We Do was released on July 30, 2012 and was created in collaboration with Hardwell . The track became a perennial festival hit. Hey was released in collaboration with the newcomer duo Bassjackers . Hey moved up to the top 10 on the Beatport charts. With the song Slow Down , the official anthem for the 2013 Emporium Festival , they hit the Dutch charts again.
2013: Breakthrough in the big room genre
With the follow-up single Booyah , Showtek, in collaboration with the producer team, We Are Loud! and the Dutch singer Sonny Wilson her biggest success so far. The piece reached the charts in over 12 countries as well as top 10 and number one placements in various dance charts. With the track We Like to Party , which was released in the same year, they continued the style of the song Booyah . The song reached the top 40 in the Netherlands after a short time. At the same time they produced the song Nobody's Perfect together with the German composer and producer for the American singer Chris Brown . Shortly afterwards, the duo released the track Wasting Our Lives , a vocal version of We Like to Party, with Tryna Loules , Hilbert's friend .
A collaboration with French DJ and producer David Guetta followed . This resulted in the songs Bad , No Money No Love and Sun Goes Down , in which the musicians Magic! , Vassy , Nicky Romero and Manian ( Twoloud ) contributed. In particular, the first single, Bad , made it into the top 5 in over 10 countries.
The track 90s by Nature , released on December 29, 2014, was created in collaboration with US singer and rapper MC Ambush. Stylistically, the piece is based on the current big room and the classic 1990s tech house style.
On June 15, 2015, the song Satisfied , sung by Vassy , was released. In doing so, they allowed themselves to be influenced by the rising popularity of the future house style. In 2015, only the song Sun Goes Down with David Guetta from the previous year was released as a single. After the single release, they advanced to the charts in Germany, Belgium and Friday, among others. In 2016 they started with the single N2U , which was created in collaboration with DJane Eva Shaw. In 2014 they worked together on the song Space Jungle . Martha Wash of the Weather Girls was also involved in this single . The track is based on character traits of the song Show Me Love by Robin S. In parallel, a fourth single was released with David Guetta . This is called The Death of EDM and received a lot of criticism due to its similarity to Gesaffelstein's Pursuit from 2013.
2016: Mellow : return to hardstyle
On August 12, 2016, they returned to their classic hardstyle style with their collaboration Mellow with Technoboy and Tuneboy . The track received a lot of praise and became part of a number of sets over the summer. Swipe also appeared in August 2016. The track is again based on a Big Room-drop and is a parody on the current Tinder hype and is following a similar pattern selfie from the Chainsmokers established.
On September 30, 2016, the long-awaited publication of their collaboration with the American DJ trio Major Lazer took place . This is called Believer and is based on the song Good Swimma by the Trinidad and Tobago producer Q Major and the Caribbean reggae singer Freetown Collective. The vocal track was taken over. In addition to their big room style, elements of the dance hall and traps can also be found. In Belgium, France and the Netherlands advanced to the official singles charts. In particular, the music video that alludes to the European refugee crisis received positive reviews.
2017: Amen- EP and North America tour
On March 26, 2017, they performed at the Ultra Music Festival. There they premiered a number of new productions from the areas of trap , jungle terror and big rooms. While Sonny Wilson went on tour with the duo last year, the Jamaican singer Andre Fennell alias GC Showtek and Wilson has been accompanying them since 2017.
In March 2017 the song On Our Own was released , which was created in collaboration with future house DJ Brooks and singer-songwriter Natalie Major. The track was designed in the Future Bass style, which was very popular between 2016 and 2017 , and was premiered at ADE 2016.
On July 28th, 2017 they released an EP called Amen , which is a fusion of the most recent music styles they represent, reggae and future bass. At the same time they announced the North American tour of the same name for late summer.
2018: Down Easy
Together with the American musician Moby , the song Natural Blues was released in January 2018 , with which they returned to the electro house style. The song Your Love followed in a similar style on June 14, 2018 , which they produced together with David Guetta and Jake Reese . The song contains an interpolation of the song Show Me Love by Robin S. from 1990.
On July 26th, 2018 Showtek released a collaboration with Dutch producer MOTi , whose vocals are contributed by Australian singer Starley Hope and Haitian hip-hop musician Wyclef Jean . The Latin pop song is called Down Easy .
With new remixes by Breathe Carolina , Lowriderz and Technoboy 'N' Tuneboy , a remix EP of their 2013 hit Booyah was released on November 16, 2018 .
