Hardwell (born January 7, 1988 in Breda ; real name Robbert van de Corput ) is a Dutch DJ and music producer who is particularly active in the fields of electro house and has been expanding his style to other genres such as hardstyle and trap since 2015 . He was able to gain first attention in the DJ scene through his appearances at festivals such as Tomorrowland and the Ultra Music Festival between 2010 and 2012, until he was the youngest “number one” at the top of the DJ world from 2013 to 2014 -Mag -Charts stand. It was considered an integral part of major events around the globe before retiring from this line in late summer 2018. Hardwell is the founder of the record label Revealed Music and was first able to land commercial success as a producer in 2012 with the song Spaceman . Hardwell's pseudonym comes from an idea his father translated his surname into Latin and English. "Cor" means "Hart" (in German "Hirsch") from Dutch into Latin and "Put" translates into English as "Well" (in German "gut"). However, he changed the "Hart" to "Hard" (in German "hart"). The pseudonym of the Dutch DJ and producer Hardwell was inspired by the original translation.
Musical beginnings
Hardwell was born in Breda in 1988 and began to orientate himself towards music at an early age. At the age of 4 he took piano lessons for the first time and received training at a music school. When he was 10 years old, he saw a documentary on the Dutch music TV channel MTV , which dealt with the careers of Tiësto , Armin van Buuren and Ferry Corsten . This inspired him to pursue a career in this field as well. At the age of twelve he began his first own productions in the field of electro, while initially earning money as a hip-hop DJ. By taking part in various competitions, he made a name for himself for the first time and demonstrated his skills. One of his idols was the Breda-born DJ and producer Tiësto, who made the leap into the dance scene in a similar way.
As hip-hop continued to transform into an underground scene, Hardwell decided to switch genre to commercial electronic dance music. He started producing remixes and uploaded them to several platforms on the Internet. The Dutch radio station “Radio 538” became aware of him through his Internet presence and played his bootleg of the song Without Me by the American rapper Eminem . The moderators then invited Hardwell, who was 14 at the time, for an interview in the studio. The Dutch producer duo Klubbheads heard an interview and a song and enabled Hardwell to sign a record deal with their record label "Digidance". His first official release took place three weeks later with the double CD Bubbling Beats 1 .
While touring the Netherlands and performing more and more appearances in well-known clubs, he met the Dutch and at the time quite successful DJ and producer Chuckie , who made it possible for him to perform further as a support act. His first official single, Play It Around, from 2006, was also a big hit in Dutch clubs. The single featured a combination of different current musical genres as well as its own style. At the same time he started the release of his compilation series Electro Beatz in order to continue to market remixes and unofficial productions.
In order to be able to market the Electro Beatz samplers better, Hardwell founded a YouTube channel in 2006 on which he became very active from then on. At the same time he played at the Breda Barst, a music festival in his hometown. This was the first time Hardwell appeared in front of a festival audience.
2007–2010: musical breakthrough and "Revealed Music"
In late 2007 he released the song Never Knew Love . He recorded this together with Greatski and reached a position in the official Dutch single charts for the first time. In addition, remixes such as Gregor Salto and Chuckies Toys Are Nuts together with the also Dutch DJ and producer R3hab as well as a mix for You Don't Love Me by Sidney Samson and Skitzofrenix created national fame in 2008 and managed to stay at the top of the for weeks fix the dance charts there.
In 2009 Tiësto contacted him via email saying that he was a big fan of his music and invited him to one of his performances. Hardwell also set out to found his own record label for electronic dance music in order to create a platform for young talents and to be able to decide on his own music, as any label that wanted to sign him made countless changes conditional. 2011–2012: "Hardwell On Air" & Spaceman
In 2011 he signed another record deal with the German dance label Kontor Records , which at the time had contracts with artists such as Blasterjaxx , Dvbbs and Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike . This gave his publications a greater reach and far more support. In March 2011, Hardwell began to present his own podcast " Hardwell On Air " weekly . This is an hour-long selection of songs by various artists. The podcast developed into an Internet success and is now used by numerous renowned radio stations such as Slam! in the Netherlands and on Sirius XM in the USA and broadcasted hundreds of thousands of times within hours.
Furthermore, in the same year the wish to work with Tiësto was fulfilled . After numerous studio work, the Track Zero 76 was created . Decisive for the title was the telephone code "076" of her hometown Breda. They also performed at the Tomorrowland Festival in Belgium in 2014 . In 2011 Hardwell was able to place himself in the selection of the Top 100 DJs by DJ Mag for the first time and rose to 24th place behind Skrillex as the second highest newcomer. He also won the Best Break-Through DJ award at the 2012 International Dance Music Awards . Besides him, Alesso , Ørjan Nilsen and Dada Life were nominated. He also made his first appearance in the United States. This took place at EDC Vegas . He then uploaded the live set to his SoundCloud channel, which started a new trend.
On July 31, 2012, the track Spaceman was released , which became one of his greatest successes and sold over half a million copies in the USA alone. It was considered the club hit of 2012 and was played at all festivals. He is also considered the father of the big room house. A vocal version with Mitch Crown earned him another placement in his homeland. In the following years, several remixes of the song and a mash-up with a hardstyle remix produced by Hardwell by Blasterjaxx and W & W's Rocket appeared , which he used as an outro song on numerous sets. The mash-up received very positive reviews and was viewed hundreds of thousands of times on the Internet.
Due to his success, the organizers of important music festivals became aware of the Dutchman, so that he was invited to headline Creamfields, the Electric Zoo Festival , the Electric Daisy Carnival , the Ultra Music Festival and Nature One . He described his appearance at Tomorrowland 2012 as a further highlight of his career, the live stream of which he then uploaded to his YouTube channel as the first DJ ever. 2013: Opening of the "I Am Hardwell Tour" & "The best DJ in the world"
On January 29, 2013, Hardwell started a bus tour through Canada with his DJ colleagues and best friends Dannic and Dyro in Ottawa. This took place in connection with "Revealed Music" and gave the trio the name "Dutch House Mafia". Dyro and Dannic also accompanied Hardwell on his North America tour in the summer of 2013.
The single Apollo , which was released on February 1, 2013, was another great success and hit the charts in numerous European countries, including Austria , Belgium, France and the Netherlands. The singer of the song is Amba Shepherd. The song was praised for its timelessness and was still played by Hardwell in his sets years later. After a remix package, he also released an "Ultra" and a "Private" version, mixed by himself, which contain the Break from the Noisecontrollers - and the Drop from the Lucky Date Remix.
A collaboration with DJ great Laidback Luke was released on April 22, 2013. The track was called Dynamo , and was able to advance into the top 10 on Beatport, but was quickly forgotten despite the popularity of the name. At the same time, he started his first global tour entitled "I Am Hardwell" and toured with Dannic and Dyro for several weeks as the "Hardwell Presents Revealed - Canadian Bus Tour" through Canada. On June 20, 2013, the fourth edition of his Hardwell-presents-Revealed collaborations appeared. This is the most successful of its kind to date; so it reached number two in the Netherlands, for the first time a position in the US album charts and the German top 15. On July 2, 2013, the expected Never Say Goodbye was released, which was recorded together with his good friend Dyro and the American singer Heather Bright alias Bright Lights. He headlined Tomorrowland again in the summer of 2013. Shortly afterwards, the single Jumper was released in collaboration with the DJ duo W&W, which was one of the club hits of 2013 alongside Martin Garrix ' Animals and Dvbbs ' Tsunami . At the same time, a remix of the popular theme Man with the Red Face was released , based on the version by Mark Knight and Funkagenda from 2008. Its reproduction was able to give it another place in the Dutch singles charts.
In autumn 2013 he was named the best DJ by the voters of the DJ Mag. With an age of 25 he was the youngest DJ to date, which in the choice of 100 DJs Top of DJ Magazine ever won first place.
Also in October 2013, he published the song Countdown in collaboration with MakJ , with which he finally established himself in the big room scene. The track was once again able to place itself in the Dutch single charts. With singing by the American singer Matthew Koma , he released the track Dare You at the end of 2013, which was the first to follow up on the success of Apollo . The song is far more commercial than its predecessor and reached the singles charts of Belgium, Ireland and Poland. 2014: Documentary & work on the studio album
In January 2014 he released the documentary I Am Hardwell , which describes his career. For this documentary he was accompanied by the filmmaker Robin Piree for two and a half years . His motto in life is "If you can dream it, you can do it", because at the age of 16 he dreamed of one day being the best DJ in the world. At the same time, the soundtrack for the film, which features the greatest musical successes, was also released. Tour dates were planned until the beginning of 2015.
Hardwell has been working on his first studio album since the start of the film, preferring his studio in his hometown of Breda to the professional studios in Los Angeles, as he appreciated the homely atmosphere at work.
The first result of his work was the track Eclipse , with which he has opened each of his live sets since November 2013. The ID track was given the unofficial title Titan among fans, and the requests for its publication became a running gag among fans. In an interview with DJ Magazine, Hardwell promised the release of his album in 2014. Hardwell performed numerous tracks from the new album at the Ultra Music Festival 2014 and the Tomorrowland Festival.
On June 17, 2014, Hardwell announced the names of the cities he would like to visit on his "I-Am-Hardwell" tour of North America. The announcement of the final appearances took place in New York's Times Square . Aftermovies of live performances as well as digital advertising posters and the various tour dates were shown on over 30 screens, which normally act as billboards.
In July 2014, after a first joint collab, Hardwell had the opportunity to perform together with Tiësto. In November 2014 the Dutchman presented the long-awaited single Don't Stop The Madness with W&W and the American rapper Fatman Scoop , the third single from his album. In December 2014, Hardwell announced the official tracklist and the album cover. It should contain collaborations with DJs like Tiësto or Headhunterz as well as singers like Andreas Moe or Mr. Probz . The first previews of some songs were also released, including the track Follow Me , which was recorded in collaboration with R&B singer Jason Derulo . At the same time he announced his second world tour called "I Am Hardwell - United We Are ". At the end of 2014, a mini-mix of the album accidentally hit the Internet and went viral within minutes. In January 2015 the instrumental piece Eclipse was released as a download single.

2015: United We Are
Even before the album was released, his podcast " Hardwell On Air " celebrated its 200th edition, from which new animations were played in the video releases. Issue 201 with the subtitle "United We Are" was a pure presentation of all the tracks on his album.
On January 23, 2015 the time had finally come. United We Are was released worldwide. A week earlier, the single Sally was released on January 16, 2015 . It is a combination of rock music, big room and Melbourne bounce. The track was recorded with the British singer-songwriter Harrison Shaw and is the first song by the Dutch DJ to enter the German single charts. As a thank you for the massive support of his album and to celebrate two million followers on Twitter , Hardwell uploaded a video of the first two hours of the kick-off for the new tour in the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam on January 24, 2015 on February 11, 2015. At the end of April 2015, the single Echo followed , sung by the singer-songwriter Jonathan Mendelsohn. Both the trance-inspired song and the complex music video received positive reviews.
At the " Ultra Music Festival " 2015 Hardwell presented numerous other unreleased songs such as Mad World with singer Jake Reese, Survivors with Dannic & Haris, whose publication he confirmed for July 2015, Off the Hook with Armin Van Buuren and numerous tracks by artists, who were under contract with his label. In addition, appearances on the "Tomorrowland Brazil" and the "Tomorrowland" followed. In July 2015, the sixth episode of his Revealed Presents compilation was released in parallel with Survivors , which, like its predecessors, achieved great success. In addition, the W&W remix of his song Birds Fly and his upcoming single Chameleon were presented for the first time. Chameleon , a jungle terror collaboration with producer Wiwek, followed a week later as a single. Two months later, his Armin van Buuren collab, Off the Hook , was released, which received mixed reviews. On the one hand, the old school touch was praised, on the other hand, the song was also described as very special. Then the track Mad World , which had been expected since May 2015 and was sung by the Dutch singer Jake Reese, was released. However, the melody of the lead sound turned out to be a sample of the song Smile with Your Eyes by musician Yeck Mar.
In October 2015 he lost his top position at the DJ-Mags to the Belgian brothers duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike . In the course of this, however, followed a series of criticisms of the duo, which are said to have landed at number one with disproportionate promotions.
During the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) in October 2015, Hardwells premiered the second documentary I Am Hardwell - Living The Dream , directed by Robin Piree. Two days later, on October 13, 2015, the film opened in cinemas. On November 7th, 2015, Hardwell set the Germany record for the largest solo DJ show in the Veltins Arena in Gelsenkirchen with 40,000 spectators in the frame of the “ World Clube Dome ” . He was also the first DJ to fill an entire arena. The normal tickets for this concert were sold out within three days. VIP tickets were still available, for a price of almost 200 euros, where you had exclusive access to the “LaOla Club”. During the concert, 50,000 euros were donated to Hardwell's Foundation. The record was set in November 2016 by the Belgian DJ duo Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike , who also performed in front of 45,000 spectators at the “World Club Dome” in the Veltins-Arena.
A remix version of his studio album United We Are has also been announced for autumn 2015 , this is the original tracklist, only that all songs were remixed by one artist each. These were contributed by, among others, W&W, Vicetone and Frontliner . The entire tracklist was featured in episode 244 of his Hardwell On Air podcast. The release date was December 4, 2015.
Furthermore, it came out towards the end of 2015 that Martin Garrix had registered a large part of the songs on his upcoming album with Gema , an organization for the management of copyright. This included the collaboration with Hardwell, called MusicBox , which has been expected since 2014 , which is why a release was unofficially announced. Originally it was supposed to be the 160th release of his record label between April and May 2015, but was withdrawn at short notice because the drop of the song should be revised again. In 2017 he announced in the forum reddit that the song would not be published.
On December 13, 2015, Hardwell held a benefit concert in Mumbai called "The Biggest Guestlist". With this performance he set a world record of the same name and donated all of the proceeds to charity.
2016: Final of the "I Am Hardwell Tour" & movement in hard style
In December 2015, the musician announced that a collaboration with Afrojack would be released in early 2016. The song is based on the electro house style that the two producers represented between 2010 and 2013. At the same time, Hardwell premiered a long previously announced track created in collaboration with DJ Kura and an instrumental piece called Break the House , which was announced as his announced collaboration with songwriter and producer KSHMR . On January 8, 2016 the song Perfect World by the Dutch singer Maan de Steenwinkel was released. This appeared as part of the casting show The Voice of Holland , whose sixth season she won. Hollywood with Afrojack was released on January 25, 2016 and jumped straight to number 1 on the Beatport charts. The next single was the second collaboration with Jake Reese Run Wild . Although March 2016 was planned as a release date in the summer of 2015, the release took place on February 29, 2016. In contrast to Mad World , Run Wild is much more Electro-House-heavy and at the same time drifts a little into the area of hard style . Just a month later, on March 29, 2016, Hardwell released his Kura collaboration Calavera . This reached number 1 on the Beatport charts.
At the Ultra Music Festival 2016, he premiered the then final version of his long-awaited W&W collaboration, which in the meantime was equipped with vocals by Harrison. The final version contained crunk vocals by US rapper Lil Jon . He also played his next release 8Fifty , which was created in collaboration with his Revealed colleague Thomas Newson. However, the release was very criticized because Hardwell has many alternative projects going, which fans say have a lot more potential. This includes Live the Night , MusicBox or Need the Most . Furthermore, a collaboration with Craig David , who appeared live on stage, premiered the second production with Blasterjaxx Going Crazy and a progressive house track traded as Julian Calor Collab.
His remix for Don't Let Me Down by the Chainsmokers and Daya , produced with Sephyx, was released on May 20, 2016 . This can undoubtedly be classified in the field of hardstyle and is, after his Rocket - Spaceman -Mash-Up and Nothing Can Hold Us Down, his third hardstyle release.
On June 24, 2016, Hardwell published the seventh part of his Hardwell-presents-Revealed compilations. In the course of this release, the studio versions of his solo hardstyle debut Wake Up Call and the title Going Crazy were released , which can also be heard here as a mash-up with Apollo . Wake Up Call was still released as a free download on August 3, 2016. On August 29, 2016 he finally released Going Crazy , his second collaboration with Blasterjaxx after Fifteen on Beatport.
Since the Ultra Music Festival expected collaboration with Craig David appeared on 19 August 2016. During his appearance at the Big City Beats World Club Dome , Hardwell announced that his last show as part of his "I Am Hardwell - United We Are Tour" would take place on August 27, 2016 at the Hockenheimring in Baden-Württemberg, Germany . Together with Big City Beats, it was planned to carry out the largest light installation in Germany there in order to create a roof of light over the Hockenheimring . On October 13, 2016, the recently announced single Thinking About You was released together with singer Jay Sean. This single also contained characteristics of the tech house as well as one of the first times with the influence of the future and commercial house. While Hardwell was 25 years old at the time of reaching number one, Garrix was 20. In the wake of the controversy over this year's DJ-Mag awards, he made a statement at his appearance at ADE on October 21, 2016, in which he questioned the guidelines of the ranking. After long being traded as the announced collaboration with Atmozfears, Hardstyle newcomer Dr Phunk announced a remix EP in the fall of 2016 to remix Hardwell's Apollo . 2017: New radio show, 2 EP releases & "Hardwell Eclipse"
Spring 2017: focus on the label & appearance at UMF
In Laidback Luke's Mixmash podcast, he premiered Hardwell's second collaboration with “Revealed” member Kura on January 1, 2017. From then on, this bore the title You Ain't Ready , featured on Kura's radio show, but at the time only consisted of bridge and drop. Upon completion, the track was renamed Police . Hardwell and Kura only reverted to the song later in the year.
On January 2, 2017, Hardwell released the track Break the House Down , premiered in December 2015 , which he recorded with Kill the Buzz. This is the first publication in the new "Revealed" design. On the occasion of his 29th birthday on January 7, 2017, he released the song Party Till the Daylight as a free download as a birthday gift for his fans . The song We Are One was released in several Asian countries on June 20, 2017 via the record label "Eternal Music Productions" . The Taiwanese mandopop singer Jolin Tsai took part as a guest singer. On September 22nd, 2017, Hardwell and KSHMR released their collaboration track Power, which premiered in April 2017, via KSHMR's "Spinnin 'Records" imprint "Dharma Worldwide". After the first episode was broadcast on Sirius XM on May 26, 2017 , Hardwell announced on November 16, 2017 that it would officially broadcast a second hour of "Hardwell On Air". Spring 2018: Hardwell & Friends EP Vol. 3

On January 22, 2018, Hardwell announced that he would be performing at Tomorrowland for the first time in 3 years.
The EP was released on January 26, 2018. The song The Underground played the role of the first release on January 22nd, 2018. The song was created in collaboration with Australian DJ Timmy Trumpet and, in addition to Hardwell's big-room character traits, also incorporated psy-trance elements. In the form of the track Woest , the second official collaboration and, after the Mi-gente remix and the Scorpion edit, the fourth collaboration with Quintino was published the following day. On January 24, 2018, the third track Get Low was released, which was recorded together with the DJ duo Sick Individuals. The duo has been under contract on their label since 2014, and until this track did not work together. The series was continued with the song Safari . This is a collaboration with the German DJ duo Jewelz & Sparks , with whom he already worked on a re-release of their song Crank . Safari is also based on that style . The series concluded with the track Take Us Down (Feeding Our Hunger) . This is the second official collaboration with hardstyle producer Dr Phunk. On March 16 and 17, 2018, Hardwell performed on the one hand at Lollapalooza Argentina and on the other hand at Lollapalooza Chile. At the same time, a joint concert with the orchestra was announced as part of the Amsterdam Dance Event. For his return to the Tomorrowland Festival in 2018, Hardwell announced a week before his performance that he had completed his long-awaited follow-up to his 2013 single Apollo and would like to premiere there. Late summer 2018: retreating from the limelight
On September 7, 2018, Hardwell announced via Facebook that it would withdraw from the DJ scene and the public for the time being. He then stopped all concert and interview dates except for one last live show, which he will do in the Ziggo Dome at the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE). On September 14, 2018, Hardwell released the song Light It Up . This was created in collaboration with his Revealed Music colleague Suyano. The vocals were provided by the Jamaican singer and rapper Richie Loop. In addition to its typical style elements, the track also contained a strong influence of dancehall and Moombahton music.
Fall 2018: Revealed Vol. 9 & Symphony
After the ninth volume of his compilation series “Hardwell presents Revealed” had been announced several times, the collaboration with the Italian DJ duo Vinai, which had already premiered last year, was released on October 5, 2018 . So far, the song has been played as a mash-up with the song Can't Hold Us by Macklemore , Ryan Lewis and Ray Dalton during live performances . For the release, vocals by the American singer and rapper Cam Meekins were recorded, which were kept in a similar style to that of Macklemore. With the release of Hardwell presents Revealed Vol. 9 , the solo single Kicking It Hard was also released , played for the first time at this year's Ultra Miami . Also included on the compilation was Hardwell's edit of the song The Beat by Dutch Future Bounce artist Mike Williams .
On October 18, 2018 he performed together with the Metropole Orkest in the Ziggo Dome for his last official Symphony concert for the time being . Together they played a 130-minute set under the motto “The Global Revolution of Dance”, which in three parts reflected the past forty years of dance music. He left the stage with tears in his eyes and the words “Thank you guys so much, I will be back.” In German “Thank you guys, I'll be back.” As expected, his last appearance was two days later the revealed night of his label. 2019: Follow-up and summer singles
After the song's premiere at Tomorrowland 2018, the long-awaited Apollo follow-up Being Alive was released on January 4th, 2019. It is a collaboration with singer Katt Niall, who appears on the single under the pseudonym JGUAR. A few days before the release, Hardwell posted a teaser in various social networks that represents a fusion of animated environments, his appearance at Tomorrowland and a lyric video.
In early 2019, Dannic played the first joint production since Survivors in 2015. This is called Chase the Sun and was released on February 8, 2019. The progressive house song was sung by the British singer Kelli-Leigh.
At the end of February 2019, Hardwell announced that the collaboration with Dutch Future House producer Mike Williams , which premiered at ADE 2018 , would be released in March 2019. 2020: The Story of Hardwell
After reviewing his career with pictures and videos on social networks since he retired from the limelight, he arrived at the present end of January 2020 and released the compilation album The Story of Hardwell to celebrate . Hardwell announced that he could compose more freely and no longer feel obliged to produce music that has to fit into his live sets. Role as label boss
In 2010 he founded the record label " Revealed Music " as a platform for young talents from the field of electronic dance music . He gained the practice that is necessary for running such a company through his first recording contract with the Dutch label "Digidance". Here he had his own small studio and was part of numerous executive conferences and meetings. Right from the start, he had a major influence on the company's artistic direction and was responsible for the final mixing and mastering of most of the songs . By founding various imprints , since 2018 he has also increasingly aimed at the publication of songs from the ranks of the community and newcomers. After retiring from the limelight, Hardwell invested some of the time he gained in expanding his label. Not only was he present as a kind of mentor and leader, he also took care of the expansion of the company headquarters, the modernization of the offices and studios and the organization of events and festivals.
Music genre
Hardwell's style can be classified in the area of electro house music. At the beginning of his career he moved in the hip-hop underground rail. Between 2005 and 2006 he made his style more commercial and over time his productions were based more and more on a mixture of tech house and dirty Dutch . Around 2008 his songs became slower and more commercial. At the same time he experimented with elements from other genres; Among other things, this resulted in build-ups that were very similar to the big room genre that emerged years later. With the single Feel So High , released in 2009 , he released a tech house song that corresponded to the classic progressive house, which was dying out, especially at the time.
At the beginning of 2010 he joined the growing EDM genre and increased his talent in the field of production with singles such as Move It 2 The Drum or Asteroid . In 2011 his first successful singles in the field of electro house appeared with Zero 76 and Encoded . With Spaceman , he co-founded the big room scene in 2012 and finally established himself in this subgenre. A year later his singles Apollo and Never Say Goodbye appeared , which gave him a place in the modern progressive house style. Until 2015, his singles could only be classified in these two areas.
On his studio album United We Are he represented trance sounds for the first time with the production Echo and deep house sounds with Birds Fly , for which he received very positive feedback. In addition, with Chameleon, a song in the jungle terror style followed, which he continued with the number Get Down, which was created with W&W . For the first time since Don't Stop the Madness , a song was released in spring 2016 with Hollywood , which after a long time corresponded to the Dirty-Dutch area again, as well as a previously unreleased production with KURA from the trap music division .
From 2015 his Synthes oriented increasingly Hardstyle - samples . His headhunterz collaboration Nothing Can Hold Us Down was created solely on hardstyle-based sounds. His solo productions Run Wild and What We Need also contain innumerable features of this genre. He also presented the song Wake Up Call at the “Biggest Guestlist” festival in Mumbai , which was initially traded as a collaboration with Hardstyler Atmozfears , but was confirmed by Hardwell himself as a solo production.
Since 2016 - in contrast to before - he has not only played a hardstyle drop as the finale of his sets, but even eight individual titles at the last "I-Am-Hardwell" show at the Hockenheimring in Germany. With his single No Holding Back , he first turned towards the UK garage . He also represented elements of deep and tech house for the first time since his Funkerman collab Where Is Here Now .
On January 7, 2017 he released the song Party Till the Daylight , which is a production from the field of bass house, with which Hardwell made his debut in this genre. His collaboration Powermove with the Duo Moksi underscored his activity in the relevant genre.
At the Ultra Music Festival he premiered his future-bass- style debut with the song Creatures of the Night . Another track premiered at UMF 2017 was the song Badam , which was created in collaboration with Henry Fong and Mr. Vegas . Here he produced a song for the first time, which covers the areas Moombahton and Trap . At the same time the track Police (You Ain't Ready) , produced with KURA and Anthony B , was part of his sets. Large parts of this track consist of elements that can be fully classified as part of reggae.
An ID with W & W's trance alias NWYR suggests a first full production in the trance genre after the crossover tracks Echoe and Off the Hook . The song was never released. After the genre psytrance experienced its greatest boom in a long time in 2017 with songs such as Free Tibet ( Vini Vici Remix) and Great Spirit , he added various songs from this style to his live sets. Together with Timmy Trumpet , he released the song The Underground at the end of January 2018 , which also contained minor influences from psytrance.
In spring 2018, Hardwell released another commercial track. This is called Ze Willen Mee and produced his first Dutch-language song and is heavily influenced by the hip-hop style. Later that year, he and the Dutch trance musician Maurice West produced a remix of Cascada's version of the song Everytime We Touch , which was his and West's first hands-up song.
The track I'm Not Sorry , released in 2019, was recorded with future house DJ Mike Williams and is also based on his musical style.
Equipment
Hardwell was still producing in his parents' house in Breda until 2015. On January 20, 2015, Hardwell presented his current studio for the first time. This was designed by the studio designer Jan Morel.
He works in the studio with a Roland A-49 MIDI Keyboard Controller White, Crane Song Avocet Remote II and a Solid State Logic XLogic G Series Compressor. "ReFX Nexus 2" is one of his most popular plugins. On March 11th, 2015 he released a soundset for the synthesizer software "Sylenth1".
Hardwell is usually seen wearing Sennheiser HD 25 II headphones at his appearances. According to his technical rider, he works as a mixer with a Pioneer DJM-900 Nexus 2. His set-up also includes four interlinked Pioneer CDJ 2000NSX2s.
Personal
His mother Anneke and his father Cor van de Corput are active in a foundation for DJs that tries to protect the artist from the consequences of a contract with managers and record labels, among other things. This is how his father commented on Martin Garrix's involvement with “Spinnin 'Records”: “When he signed, he absolutely did not realize that he is not the owner of his own music [...] He is the typical example of a little boy who enters the music world , negotiate with professionals and at this point do not realize the consequences of signing the contract ”.
At a young age, Hardwell was also active in several areas of martial arts, including judo and martial arts . He was also heard in 2016 as a voice actor in the animated film Pets . There he spoke to the pug Mel. The decisive factor was that he himself owned a pug named Jäger at the time.
From 2014 to 2017 Hardwell and the Dutch event manager Yanicke Agnes were in a relationship. They met in a bar in his hometown Breda in 2013. In August 2016, he announced that he and Agnes were separating. The main reason he named the professional activities in different time zones. In February 2017 it was announced that he was in a relationship with the journalist Sharon Timmermanns, also from Breda.
In his Facebook statement on September 7, 2018, in which he announced his break, he stated that he needed more time for his family.
His annual salary is estimated at 9.5 million euros.
philanthropy
On December 13, 2015, Hardwell hosted a benefit concert called "The Biggest Guestlist" at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai . This was brought into being with the help of the “United We Are Foundation”, which he founded together with the charity “Anna Agency”, and the Indian charity “United Welfare Trust”. In total, the festival was attended by over 75,000 people. All income from the festival as well as an appeal for donations from fans in cooperation with and "Guestlistevents.in" to the Magic Bus Charity Project, which enables children from poor backgrounds to have a better education.
On June 16, 2016, Hardwell was part of a charity event held at the United Nations headquarters in New York City. The event was organized by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Johan Cruyff Foundation.
On December 3, 2017, Hardwell was part of the World's Biggest Guestlist Festival in Mumbai again. He hosted the third day of the festival, where he was accompanied by W&W and Kill The Buzz, among others. Here, too, all proceeds were donated and fans were asked to donate. At the same time he got involved with the Magic Bus in India.
Merchandise
On October 7, 2015, the "Revealed Store" went online. In addition to the music that was published on the label, clothing, accessories and other fan articles in the style of Hardwell and "Revealed Music" could also be purchased there.
On November 19, 2015, he launched an action figure. This was created with the help of 3D printing technology.
On November 28, 2016, Hardwell published the photo book 2 Years as One in collaboration with the Dutch publisher “Uitgeverij Komma” . The photographs contained were shot by the Dutch photographer Joep van Aert, who accompanied the DJ for two years on his tour and numerous appearances.
On October 2, 2017, Hardwell announced on its social networks that it was releasing its first own perfume called "Hardwell Eclipse". As part of the ADE , the fragrance was presented on October 20, 2017 in Amsterdam under the motto “The New Sound in Fragrance”.
