Hardwell & Friends EP Vol. 1 is the first of two EPs whose releases are scheduled for 2017. The so-called "Volume 1" was released on July 28, 2017 via the music label " Revealed Recordings ". The main interpreter is the Dutch DJ and producer Hardwell , the addition of "Friends" includes a number of collaboration partners.

background

Hardwell first announced the release of two EPs on June 10, 2017 during an interview at Ultra Singapore . At the same time he announced that the song Badam with Henry Fong and Mr. Vegas would be part of this. However, the track was not included in the tracklist of the first part. In mid-July 2017, the cover of the first volume appeared on the Internet. In addition to Hardwell, each individual cooperation partner who participated in the EP can be seen on this. Only M.Bronx, singer of the song All That We Are Living For and Anthony B, author of a sample that is used in Police (We Ain't Ready) , are not shown on the cover. During the 326th episode of his " Hardwell On Air " podcast, he announced that he would release the tracks from the EP as a single day after day between July 24th and 28th, 2017. During the podcast he gave an insight into the entire tracklist.

Rumor has it that the two EPs will act as proxies for this year's volume of Hardwell-presents-Revealed annual compilations. However, Hardwell announced on Instagram that he was mixing the eighth collaboration and debunked the rumors accordingly.

Singles

Before the EP was released, Hardwell released the entire tracklist as singles on Spotify and iTunes, among others . The individual covers consist of press photos of the artists. Only M.Bronx and Anthony B are not on the covers of All That We Are Living For and Police (You Ain't Ready) .

  • We Are Legends was the EP's first single. It was released on July 24, 2017. It was played for the first time at Castello A Mare, Palermo, Italy in June 2016, in the form of an instrumental version. The vocals were added in winter 2016 and presented for the first time in January 2017.
  • We Are One was released a day later and first played at the 2016 Ultra Music Festival. It is one of the oldest productions on the EP and was only played as an instrumental version during the first year. Later in 2016, based on several live sets, fans of the song predicted that the song was created in collaboration with Dutch DJ Armin van Buuren . However, he announced in a Q&A that he had nothing to do with the track and referred to W&W , which are actually listed in the credits. On June 20, 2017, the song was released in various Asian countries with the vocals of the Taiwanese mandopop singer Jolin Tsai . The final Revealed version is sung by Alexander Tidebrink , but received less positive feedback than the voice of Tsai.
  • Police (You Ain't Ready) was released as the third single on July 25, 2017. It was produced together with the Portuguese DJ Kura , with whom Hardwell already collaborated once on the song Calavera . The track's first drop was presented in January 2015 during an episode of Kura's radio show “Ambush Radioshow”. At this point the artists were marked as "ID". Hardwell then played the revised version for the first time in the Electric Zoo, consisting of a hardstyle drop and a trap style drop. The song's break consists of a sample from Anthony B's track Police from 2002.
  • All That We Are Living For , followed on July 27th. The track was created in collaboration with the Dutch hardstyle DJ Atmozfears and singer M.Bronx. The songwriting was done by a team of authors. After Hardwell and Atmozfears announced their collaboration in late 2015, many fans speculated that Wake Up Call was the result of this. During the last "I-Am-Hardwell" show at the Hockenheimring in Germany, Hardwell brought Atmozfears onto the stage with the words "This is the song you've all been waiting for [...] makes noise for the one and only Atmozfears" to All That We Are Living for about premieres there.
  • Smash This Beat was released as the final single on the EP on July 28th. Behind the track is a collaboration with the newcomer Maddix , who has been part of Hardwell's label since 2016. With its premiere at the Ultra Music Festival, the song is the latest track on the EP.

criticism

The EP received mostly positive feedback. In particular, the varied design of the musical style and the idea of publishing a lot of long-awaited songs in the form of two EPs were praised. Henry Einck from the online magazine " Dance-Charts " commented on this:

“The first episode of the EP series“ Hardwell & Friends ”is a perfect debut for Hardwell. More EPs like this will follow in the future and that's a good thing. The first EP was designed very individually and varied. You don't hear just one side of Hardwell, but four different sides. The collaborations are not only well-known. They are definitely worth listening to. Regardless of whether it's Progressive House, Jungle Terror, Bigroom or Hardstyle, Volume 1 has everything your heart desires. "
