Miss Universe 1926
The beauty contest for the Miss Universe 1926 was held under the name First International Pageant of pulchritude and Seventh Annual Bathing Girl Revue from 15 to 17 May 1926 in Galveston (Texas) instead. Only female candidates from the United States took part in the previous events from 1920, simply referred to as the Galveston Bathing Girl Revue . But in 1926, with a young woman from Mexico and another from Winnipeg (Canada), international participants came for the first time. Around 150,000 spectators are said to have watched the swimsuit parade on Galveston Boulevard every year.
The winner was Catherine Moylan (Miss Dallas) and this year she received the title "Beauty Queen of the Universe", which from 1928 was called Miss Universe .
Events
The first candidates arrived in Galveston on May 13th: Señorita Mexico Maria Martha Perres and Miss Winnipeg Patricia O'Shea, the two international participants. The opening parade took place on the afternoon of May 15, the election of the beauty queen on May 16, 1926.
Results
Miss Dallas, Catherine Moylan won first prize and was crowned Beauty Queen of the Universe . The winning prize was $ 2,000 and a silver plaque engraved with "Beauty Queen of the Universe". The runner-up received $ 1,000, the third received $ 250 and the other nine (places 4 to 12) each received $ 100.
"Beauty, form, grace and personal charm" were judged. Clothing, jewelry and decorative elements played no role.

Candidates
39 women entered the 1926 competition, most of them from Texas and the surrounding states. The presence of delegates Maria Martha Parres from Mexico and Patricia O'Shea from Winnipeg (Manitoba, Canada) made it Galveston's first international event.
