In the previous events from 1920 to 1925, simply referred to as the Galveston Bathing Girl Revue , only candidates from the United States took part. But in 1926 the first two international participants came along. Around 150,000 spectators are said to have watched the swimsuit parade on Galveston Boulevard every year.

The winner was Dorothy Britton (Miss New York City) and this year she received the title Beauty Queen of the Universe , which was only called Miss Universe from 1928 . There were 37 applicants - 29 from the US and eight foreigners.

Candidates

The 37 contestants on Galveston Beach, Texas.

37 young women took part in the 1927 competition, one less than in the previous year. There were significantly more foreign ones, namely eight. Restrictions on their qualifications have been introduced: a selection in their hometown, conducted by a newspaper, theater or municipal body.

The candidates had to be unmarried and 16 to 25 years old. They were not allowed to have a professional connection to the stage, a film studio or a similar trade. The competition was open to women from all cities in the world except Galveston.
