Cleburne is the county capital and seat of the county seat of Johnson County in the US state of Texas in the United States .
geography
The city is located 45 km south of Fort Worth , near the center of the county in northeast Texas and has a total area of 78.9 km², of which 6.9 km² is water.
history
During the Civil War , the small settlement was known as Camp Henderson and served as a gathering point for the area's volunteers. It was not until 1867 that it became an ordinary city and, due to its central location, replaced Buchanan as the county seat. The city was named after Patrick Ronayne Cleburne , a major general in the Army of the Confederate States of America .

According to the 2000 census, 26,005 people lived here in 9,335 households and 6,767 families. The population density was 361.3 inhabitants per km ². The racial the population was composed of 86.32% White, 4.44% African American, 0.47% Native American, 0.42% Asian, 0.21% Pacific Islander, and 6.42% other ethnic groups. About 1.73% were mixed race and 19.90% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 9,335 households, 35.8% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 56.2% of these were married couples living together. 11.9% were single mothers and 27.5% were non-families. 24.0% of all households were single households and there were people living in 11.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.71 and the average family size was 3.20.
27.9% of the population were under 18 years old, 9.7% 18 to 24, 28.5% 25 to 44, 20.0% 45 to 64, and 13.8% who were 65 years of age or older . The median age was 33 years. For every 100 females of all age groups, there were 94.2 males. For every 100 women aged 18 and over there were 91.2 men.
The median income for a household in the 35,481 USD , and the median income for a family 41,975 USD. Males had a median income of $ 32,131 versus $ 21,778 for females. The per capita income was $ 16,762. 13.5% of the population and 10.0% of families are below the poverty line. Of these, 17.2% were children and adolescents under 18 years of age and 13.6% were 65 or older.
