A Helsana Trail is a sports course , usually laid out in a forest , which is available to the public at any time and free of charge. The Helsana trails have been created and operated by the Swiss health insurance company Helsana and the Swiss Athletics Association since 2003 . Most of the trails are available all year round, are free of charge and are suitable for all fitness levels.

The signposted and measured circuits are aimed at joggers , Nordic walkers , hikers and walkers. Information boards with strengthening and stretching exercises as well as information on the right technique and a healthy training load are attached to the routes.

More than 360 running routes are available in more than 120 municipalities across Switzerland. The route lengths usually vary between five and 25 kilometers. There are usually routes in three different levels of difficulty. The trails are regularly checked and maintained by local managers.

The Vitaparcours operated by Zürich Versicherung , on the other hand, are aimed at athletes who are looking for exercises for strength, endurance, flexibility and coordination in the great outdoors.

The Helsana Trails app shows the details of the trails and measures distance, speed, altitude , time and calorie consumption while running . The Trails app also lists additional activities and special places on and near the trail, such as viewpoints, historical buildings or barbecue areas. The app is free and is also available to non-customers. It also works as a fitness tracker away from the Helsana trails . In conjunction with the Helsana + app , Trails app users can collect plus points for the bonus program with the kilometers they have run.
