The Helsana AG , based in Dübendorf is to the health of specialized Swiss insurance group . With 2.1 million policyholders and premium income of 6.7 billion Swiss francs, the Helsana Group is Switzerland's leading health and accident insurer. The group of companies employs around 3300 people and has a nationwide network of 22 general agencies and 20 sales outlets. The name is made up of the names of the health insurances Helvetia and Artisana, which have merged to form Helsana.

history

Helsana emerged in 1996 from the merger of the two health and accident insurance companies Helvetia and Artisana . Helvetia was founded in 1899, Artisana in 1952. Both were supported by one association , and these two associations now make up Helsana's shareholders. The Fondation Sana , formerly the Helvetia Sana Foundation and successor to the Helvetia Association, holds 79 percent of the share capital, the Artisana Association 21 percent.

Field of activity

The group comprises three operational subsidiaries that are active in the areas of basic insurance, supplementary insurance and accident insurance . These appear on the market as independent brands under the names Helsana and Progrès . As of January 1, 2017, the basic insurance subsidiaries Avanex were merged with Helsana and Sansan Insurance with Progrès Insurance , with which Avanex and Sansan disappeared from the market . Aerosana , another former subsidiary, merged with Progrès on January 1, 2011.

The Helsana Group's core business is basic insurance under the Health Insurance Act , which generates around 70 percent of total premium income. The supplementary insurance line forms the second mainstay with 27 percent of the premium income. In addition, the group offers companies and associations group daily allowance and accident insurance as well as occupational pension solutions.

Helsana + bonus program

Helsana launched the Helsana + bonus program (“Helsana Plus”) in 2017. Helsana + enables you to collect plus points for health-conscious behavior, social and community engagement and customer loyalty. The points collected can be redeemed for cash. This program has been criticized by consumer protection and disability organizations. The Federal Council was asked to comment on this program in a parliamentary proposal.

Helsana trails

Since 2003, the insurance company has been operating the Helsana trails for joggers , Nordic walkers and walkers at over 120 locations .
