Port Arthur is a city in South Texas on the border with Louisiana .
Port Arthur is on the west bank of Sabine Lake . The Rainbow Bridge over the Neches River connects Port Arthur with Bridge City.
The Gulf Intracoastal Waterway is separated from Sabine Lake by the man-made Pleasure Island, near the city. The waterway and island were built by the Corps of Engineers between 1899 and 1908 .
Port Arthur is connected to the Gulf of Mexico via Sabine Lake . The city has several oil refineries and is an important center of oil processing .

Port Arthur has a subtropical climate with mild winters and hot and humid summers. The region is at risk from hurricanes . In September 2005, Port Arthur suffered severe damage from Hurricane Rita .
