Jonathan Joel Babineaux (born October 12, 1981 in Port Arthur , Texas ) is an American former American football player on the position of defensive tackles . He played his entire career for the Atlanta Falcons in the National Football League (NFL).

Childhood and youth

Babineaux grew up with his four siblings in Port Arthur and attended Lincoln High School here . He played on the football team as a linebacker and as a punter and was also team captain. He also played basketball and golf.

After high school, he went to the University of Iowa . On the college football team, he had 131 tackles , 19 sacks and 5 forced fumbles .

NFL

In the 2005 NFL Draft , he was selected in the second round as the 59th player by the Atlanta Falcons . Here he played for a total of twelve years. He had his best season in 2009 with six sacks. He reached the Super Bowl LI with the Falcons , which was lost to the New England Patriots at 28:34 .

Private

Jonathan Babineaux is the older brother of Jordan Babineaux , who also played American football in the NFL, including with the Seattle Seahawks .

In February 2007, he was charged with killing his then girlfriend 's pit bull . However, in November 2007 the charges were dropped.

Babineaux is married and has two children.
