Hardwell & Friends EP Vol. 2 is the second volume in an EP series by the Dutch DJ and producer Hardwell . The so-called "Volume 2" was released on August 25, 2017 via the music label " Revealed Recordings ". Specified as the main interpreter Hardwell, in the addition "Friends" a number of collaboration partners are included.

background

Hardwell first announced the release of two EPs on June 10, 2017 during an interview at Ultra Singapore . At the same time he announced that the song Badam with Henry Fong and Mr. Vegas would be part of this. However, the track was not included in the tracklist of the first part, which is why it was also made clear that a second part would follow. In another interview, Hardwell confirmed this and mentioned in the course of it that he was even considering the release of a third collection of songs.

The cover of the EP appeared on the Internet in mid-August 2017. In addition to Hardwell, each individual cooperation partner who participated in the EP can be seen on this. Only Max Collins, singer of the song Still the One, is not shown on the cover. During the 330th episode of his " Hardwell-On-Air " podcast, he played the entire tracklist in the form of a minimix.

Rumor has it that the two EPs will act as proxies for this year's volume of Hardwell-presents-Revealed annual compilations. However, Hardwell announced on Instagram that he was mixing the eighth collaboration and debunked the rumors accordingly.

Singles

Before the EP was released, Hardwell released the entire tracklist as singles on Spotify and iTunes, among others . The individual covers consist of press photos of the artists. Only Max Collins is not featured on the cover of Still the One .

  • Badam was released as the first single on August 21, 2017. The track was created in collaboration with DJ and producer Henry Fong and dancehall musician Mr. Vegas , whom Hardwell describes as one of his childhood heroes. He said that an advertising partner made contact with him possible while he had been in contact with Henry Fong for a long time. Hardwell calls the track one of his all time personal favorites. After it premiered at the Ultra Music Festival, he announced the song as part of the EP in an interview with Ultra Singapore in early June 2017. Badam embodies a Moombahton production.
  • Still the One followed on August 22nd, 2017. The production took place in cooperation with the Dutch DJ and producer Kill the Buzz and singer Max Collins. Still the One is not the first collaboration between the two Dutchmen. They first collaborated in 2014 on the song Don't Give Up and continued in 2015 on the song Break the House Down , both of which only appeared under the name Kill the Buzz. The track came about after Kill the Buzz played the instrumental he had produced at one of his performances and Hardwell realized that the vocals of one of his songs would perfectly match Kill the Buzz's production. Together they combined the songs and celebrated its premiere in early 2017 at one of Kill the Buzz's performances.
  • What We Need was released on August 23, 2017, although it was recorded in 2014. In addition to Hardwell, the uncredited producer Willem Bakker, with whom Hardwell already worked on Young Again , took part. Furthermore, the Dutch musician Haris Alagic acted as the author and singer of the song. The song has been part of Hardwell's appearances since early 2015. He brought Haris on stage at the Amsterdam Dance Event and at the Hockenheimring, among others . In the latter case, Hardwell announced that the song was his upcoming single, but this did not come true. On August 1, 2017, Haris responded to a tweet on Twitter in which he announced that they were "doing something special" with the track. That the song would then be released in the course of the second EP was confirmed.
  • Powermove was released on August 24, 2017. It was created in collaboration with the DJ duo Moksi. This already came into contact with Hardwell through a remix to Mad World . Powermove is strongly based on Moksi's bass house style and was premiered by Hardwell at the Ultra Music Festival 2017. Moksi then announced during their appearance on Slam FM that it was a collaboration.
  • Here Once Again completed the release sequence on August 25, 2017. Hardwell collaborated with Hardstyle DJ Dr. Phunk, whose style the track is based on. In several Q & As, Dr. Phunk has been talking about the imminent release several times since its premiere in December 2016 and made it clear to those questioning that they would not postpone the release until it was canceled after two years , as Hardwell and Martin Garrix did with MusicBox , for example . The first collaboration took place earlier in 2016 at a company headed by Dr. Phunk produced remix EPs of selected Hardwell songs.

criticism

The EP received mostly positive feedback. In particular, the varied design of the musical style and the idea of publishing a lot of long-awaited songs in the form of two EPs were praised. Timo Büschleb from the online magazine " Dance-Charts " said:

“Like the first part, the EP shows a large number of different genre influences. All of them adapt to Hardwell's typical style. In addition, “What We Need”, a long-awaited ID, is part of the track list, which will also meet with a positive response from fans. A common thread can also be seen; so with "Powermove", as with "Smash this Beat" in the first EP, old school elements are covered and a finale is presented with a hardstyle production. "
