Anthony B , actually Keith Anthony Blair (born March 31, 1976 in Clark's Town , Jamaica ) is a Jamaican dancehall and reggae interpreter. His breakthrough came in 1995 with the songs Fire Pon Rome and Warrior , and since then he has been one of the most influential Jamaican singers and songwriters .

Life

Keith Blair grew up in a rural area in Trelawny Parish , Jamaica , where he came into contact with church music at an early age through his Christian family. At the same time, he was also following current Jamaican music. Peter Tosh and Bob Marley his greatest role models; they would later also shape his musical style. In his youth he turned to the Rastafarian religion. This decision was frowned upon by his Christian family, so in 1992 he moved to his aunt and uncle in Portmore , where his musical career began.

At the beginning of his career, Keith Blair found a musical landscape that did not suit him: the lyrics of the Jamaican reggae artists were mainly about guns and willing women. When he met Star Trail Records producer Richard "Bell" Bello in 1993, the latter recognized Anthony B's talent for song lyrics. From then on, Blair released hits like Fire Pon Rome , Raid di barn , One Thing , Repentance Time and Rumor with his help .

Anthony B is a devout Bobo Ashanti , a movement within the Rastafarian religion. His deep faith is also reflected in his spiritual texts. He also sings about political injustice and the suffering of Jamaica's poor people. He was not always undisputed: for example, his song Fire Pon Rome , which is directed against the Roman Catholic Church , caused a sensation . He has released many recordings since 1994.
