The Dutch DJ and music producer Wiwek is named as the founder of the genre , who made the style popular in the EDM scene between 2013 and 2016 . Musicians like Skrillex , Diplo and Kura are now associated with the genre.

history

The first songs that showed characteristics of the later jungle terror were initially traced back to Dutch House , as parallels were drawn with Afrojacks and Angger Dimas sound. In an interview with "The Verge", the co-founder of the music style Wiwek said that he tried to describe the music he was producing to his friends and the first thing that came to mind was "Jungle Terror". With this description, he then uploaded his songs to the SoundCloud music platform . In 2012 Diplo noticed him and released the song Terror on his record label "Mad Decent". In the following year, the genre expanded to Laidback Luke's "Mixmash Records" with the song Ritual vom Wiwek and Cesqeaux . Wiwek's Jungle Terror EP, which appeared in 2014, finally established the genre in the EDM scene. On Beatport she was able to advance to number 5 on the charts. The EP was released by Yellow Claws in the year the record label "Barong Family" was founded and is one of the first releases about this, which often links the style and the genre. In 2015 Hardwell , Yellow Claw and Skrillex brought Wiwek into the studio, creating crossovers with other genres. The term "Jungle Terror" became more and more common and described the stylistic devices of the producer. The song Zantar by Maestro Harrell and NoTech was released in 2016 via W & W'sMainstage Music ” . The track is based on the basics of their big room style, but was still influenced by all the stylistic devices of jungle terror. This also includes the productions of the DJ Kura, which were branded as Electro-House until 2013, until the character traits of the musical style were defined between 2014 and 2015.

Wiwek himself said that he viewed jungle terror as a kind of stylistic device rather than a genre of its own. Influences and basic building blocks form the genres Dutch and Tribal House. Character traits of the Moombahtones and rhythms from the drum 'n' bass area are also used. Finally, animal noises (often also described as "noise"), vocal cuts, percussions , a chaotic build-up as well as a strong aggressiveness in the drop are the most common characteristics. In 2009 Wiwek released the song Jungle Wars under the pseudonym Oui'Wack . The break of the song consisted entirely of animal samples, but it was precisely because of its absurdity that it was convincing. The speed is typically from 128 to 130 BPM. The beats and basslines vary. While Wiwek still worked with his own beats in the first jungle terror productions, current productions in this style increasingly spread with ordinary electro house beats.
