Skrillex (born January 15, 1988 in Los Angeles , California ; real name Sonny John Moore ) is an American DJ and music producer in the field of dubstep , brostep , electro and trap and former front singer of the band From First to Last . He is also a member of Dog Blood (with Boys Noize ) and Jack Ü (with Diplo ).

Sonny Moore grew up in northeast Los Angeles. In 2004, at the age of 16, he came into contact with Matt Good from the band From First to Last via MySpace and wanted to play guitar there. However, after the other band members and some studio producers heard him sing, he was made the band's lead singer . In June 2004 they released their debut album Dear Diary, My Teen Angst Has a Body Count on Epitaph Records . The band had several successful tours and released their second album Heroine in March 2006 . Eventually, Sonny developed voice problems and successfully underwent surgery. On February 27, 2007 he announced that he would leave the band to pursue a solo career.

First he published some demos on his MySpace page and after a few months he went on tour with Team Sleep . In February 2008, Alternative Press Magazine announced the second annual AP tour with All Time Low , The Rocket Summer , The Matches , Forever the Sickest Kids and Sonny Moore. During the tour, Sonny's cast included Sean Friday on drums, Christopher Null on guitar and Aaron Rother on keyboards.

In 2008 Sonny also began producing music and performed under the pseudonym Skrillex in various clubs in the Los Angeles area . On April 7, 2009, Gypsyhook EP was his first extended play with three songs and four remixes . This was published under his first name Sonny. He again toured with various bands and appeared in April 2009 with the band Hollywood Undead as Sonny and the Blood Monkeys .

He released his first production under the name Skrillex on June 7, 2010 with the EP My Name Is Skrillex , which he made available as a free download. In summer 2010, he worked with the metalcore band Bring Me the Horizon on their third studio album There Is a Hell, Believe Me I've Seen It. There Is a Heaven, Let's Keep It a Secret . Eventually he was signed by Deadmau5 on his music label mau5trap Recordings and released his second EP Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites on it .

In April 2011 the band Korn released the song Get Up! that Skrillex produced. The song was made available as a free download on their Facebook page. On April 15, 2011, Korn also came on stage during his set at the Coachella Music Festival 2011 and made a brief appearance.

On August 2011, Skrillex founded his record label OWSLA . In September 2011 Skrillex released the theme song for the new edition of the computer game Syndicate . In 2011, Skrillex was also able to place itself in the selection of the Top 100 DJs by DJ Mag for the first time and came in 19th place. It was the highest new entry into the list that year. In November 2011 he was nominated five times for the Grammy Award , including “Best New Artist” and “Best Music Video”, of which he won three in February 2012 (“Best Dance Recording”, “Best Electronic / Dance Album” and "Best Remix Recording"). At the BBC's Sound of 2012 he was the most prominent of the 15 candidates. Skrillex was also awarded for “Best Dance Recording” and “Best Electronic / Dance Album” at the 2013 Grammy Awards.

From 2011 to October 2012 Sonny Moore was in a relationship with the British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding .

His album Recess was released on March 14, 2014 in Germany.

On August 5, 2016, the single Purple Lamborghini was released with the American rapper Rick Ross . The single is the soundtrack of the American action film Suicide Squad .

On January 15, 2017, the single Make War was released , which he recorded with the band From First to Last (Sonny is the band's former lead singer and the song was released on his birthday). The single was released under his label OWSLA .

In 2017, the single Would You Ever with Poo Bear and Skrillex 'remix of Kendrick Lamar's single Humble was released .
