The Matches (formerly The Locals ) are a pop-punk / alternative rock band founded in Oakland , California in 1997 .

history

The Matches were founded in 1997 as The Locals and play large scale punk . In the following years the music gradually shifted to alternative rock . As influences are Elvis Costello , David Bowie , The Who , and Joe Jackson called. An indie rock band from Chicago of the same name, due to the mutual increasing popularity, call on The Locals to change their name so that they change their name to The Matches .

The Matches increase their local awareness by providing sound to the waiting visitors in front of large concert halls for free. They also regularly organize the so-called L3 shows ( Live, Loud & Local ), in which she several local bands a nationally known Support left.

In 2003 they released the album E. Von Dahl Killed the Locals , whose title ironically alludes to the name change, since the singer of the other band called E. von Dahl . Shortly afterwards they are discovered by Brett Gurewitz and signed for his label Epitaph Records . Her debut album will be re-released in 2004 with a slightly different tracklist . In 2004 and 2005 The Matches tour with bands like Lit , Yellowcard , Matchbook Romance , Less Than Jake , Reel Big Fish , MxPx , Motion City Soundtrack and +44 through Europe and the USA .

In 2006 the second album Decomposer was released. The thirteen titles were edited by a total of nine producers , including well-known rock greats such as Tim Armstrong ( Rancid ), Mark Hoppus (+44, blink-182 ), John Feldmann ( Goldfinger ), Brett Gurewitz ( Bad Religion ) and Nick Hexum ( 311 ). The album sounds more experimental and varied than their first album.

On March 17th, 2008 her latest album A Band was released in Hope .
