Yellow Card was a pop punk - band from Jacksonville , Florida. Their music can be assigned to alternative rock as well as pop-punk. The specialty of Yellowcard's music lies in the use of a violin .

history

Yellowcard was founded in 1997 in Jacksonville and consisted of five members: Ben Dobson (vocals), Todd Clary (vocals, guitar), Ben Harper (guitar), Warren Cooke (bass) and Longineu Parsons III (drums). Their name came from a party tradition according to which, like in football, they gave a yellow card to anyone who spilled drinks or otherwise negatively noticed . In the beginning there was confusion about the spelling, with or without spaces. The band agreed on Yellowcard, with no spaces.

Their first album, Midget Tossing , came out in 1997. They asked Sean Mackin to play the violin for some of their songs . In 1999 the band released their second album Where We Stand on Takeover Records. Sean Mackin was now a member of the band. Shortly afterwards, Ben Dobson left the group. Ryan Key, an old friend, joined the band as the new singer. He convinced the rest of the group that there was no long-term success in Florida. The band then decided to move to California and released the EP Still Standing in 2000 . Shortly thereafter, Todd Clary left the band. Ryan Key took over his part and was now also a guitarist.

In 2001 Yellowcard released their fourth album, One for the Kids , with which they achieved great success with their fans. They also achieved great success with the subsequent The Underdog EP on Fueled by Ramen . The genre on One for the Kids and The Underdog EP was already in contrast to their original albums. Their songs became more melodic. After the release of the Underdog EP, Warren Cooke left the band and was replaced by Pete Mosely on bass .

In 2003 the album Ocean Avenue was released by the US major label Capitol Records . It was the big breakthrough for the band. For the first time they made it into the US album charts and it sold over a million times. The title song was her biggest single hit to date and was awarded gold . The song Only One also got gold for half a million copies sold without ever being in the charts. The songs Ocean Avenue and Way Away could also place in the UK charts .

After the recordings of Ocean Avenue Mosely had to leave the band. When the band started their year and a half tour , Alex Lewis stepped in for him on bass. During her tour, however, Mosely returned.

The live DVD for the album Beyond Ocean Avenue: Live at the Electric Factory was released in 2004 and also went platinum . Yellowcard also received a lot of attention with the title Gifts and Curses on the soundtrack of the movie Spider-Man 2 .

For much of 2005, Yellowcard worked on the album Lights and Sounds . On November 7, 2005, Yellowcard confirmed in MTV News what fans had suspected for a long time: Ben Harper left the band to concentrate on his indie label "Takeover Records" because they "had drifted apart personally and creatively have what can happen in any relationship "( [...] We've simply grown apart, personally and creatively, which can happen in any relationship [...] ). Sean Mackin added that this change is hard for all of them, but Ben will always be her brother ( [...] This change is hard for all of us, but Ben will always be our brother. [...] ). A replacement for Harper was found in the form of Ryan Mendez. On January 13, 2006 the new single Lights and Sounds was released , the album of the same name followed on January 27, 2006. Two singles by Lights and Sounds were released: Lights and Sounds and Rough Landing, Holly . It became their internationally most successful album and was also able to place in the charts in Europe and Australia. In the USA it reached the top 5 of the album charts and got gold, but remained overall behind the previous album.

The next studio album, Yellowcards, was titled Paper Walls and was released in the USA on July 17, 2007 and reached number 13 on the US charts. It did not produce a single hit. On October 17, 2007, Pete Mosely left the band on the grounds that "to do something else " ( [...] I have chosen to leave Yellowcard and pursue other endeavors. [...] ). At the same time, Mosely said that it was a great honor for him to play with Yellowcard and that he had enjoyed traveling with the band around the world and making music. The group then took a break.

In August 2010, Yellowcard signed a recording contract with Hopeless Records , ending their hiatus to devote themselves to another studio album. Yellowcard found replacement for Pete Mosley on bass in her long-time friend Sean O'Donnell.

The album When You're Through Thinking, Say Yes was released in spring 2011. The acoustic version of the album followed on October 23, 2011.

In February 2012, the band announced that bassist Sean O'Donnell had left the band for personal reasons. On February 17, 2012, the band announced on their official website that Josh Portman would replace bassist Sean O'Donnell.

Furthermore, the band began recording a new studio album in March 2012. Ryan Key announced in an official interview that he had prepared all the songs for direct recording before the start of the recording work. On May 22, 2012, Yellowcard released the single Always Summer . Her eighth studio album, Southern Air , was released on August 14, 2012 and was a success in many countries. Among other things, the album managed to achieve a top 100 position in the German album charts for the first time in the history of Yellowcard.

After various concerts (including in North America and Europe), Yellowcard announced on May 3, 2013 that they were back in the studio to record an acoustic version of their successful album Ocean Avenue on the occasion of its 10th anniversary . The album was released on August 13, 2013.

On March 14, 2014, Yellowcard announced that their previous drummer Longineu Parsons is leaving the band due to other musical interests. The band released this news on Facebook with this post:

"It has been announced that long-time drummer Longineu" LP "Parsons III has left YELLOWCARD. Said the band in a joint statement, Longineu has decided to pursue other musical interests. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors. A replacement has not been announced. "

In February 2016, the band began recording their last studio album. With the release of the single Rest in Peace on June 24, 2016, the band announced their breakup after the last concert on March 25, 2017.
