Michelle Jacquet DeSevren Branch (born July 2, 1983 in Flagstaff , Arizona ) is an American singer , songwriter and guitarist.

Life

Michelle got her name from the Beatles song of the same name . Their ancestors come from Ireland , France , the Netherlands and the Dutch East Indies / Indonesia . She has an older brother, David, and a younger sister, Nicole. In addition to her native English, she also speaks French well. Branch attended Red Rock high school, but dropped out of school and devoted herself to her career as a songwriter.

Since May 24th 2004 she is married to the bassist Teddy Landau , brother of the well-known guitarist Michael Landau . With this she has a daughter (* 2005).

Career

After she had released a self-produced album with her own songs with Broken Bracelet , she got a contract with Maverick Records at the age of 17 . Her first big hit was Everywhere (2001), followed by the song All You Wanted , both of which were released on her debut album The Spirit Room . In 2002 she sang The Game of Love , a duet with Carlos Santana . The song was awarded a Grammy for best pop duet in 2003 . In the same year she released her second album Hotel Paper , which made it into the top 20 of the Billboard singles chart.

She composes and writes her own songs or is at least involved as a co-composer. She names artists such as The Beatles , Led Zeppelin , Patty Griffin , Queen , Aerosmith , Cat Stevens and Joni Mitchell as musical influences . She plays several instruments including cello , guitar , accordion , mandolin , harmonica , drums and piano .

She founds the country-pop duo The Wreckers with her former background singer and friend Jessica Harp . Their first song together appeared in the American soap One Tree Hill , which they performed there on February 8, 2005. The duo then joined the One Tree Hill Tour along with Gavin DeGraw , Tyler Hilton , and Bethany Joy Lenz and toured the United States for weeks without having released an album beforehand.

In the television series Buffy - The Vampire Slayer , she sang her song Goodbye to You in the 8th episode of the 6th season at the end , as well as in the 12th episode of the 5th season on Charmed .

In the summer of 2009 her single Sooner or Later was released , with which she returned to the charts after a long time . The new album Everything Comes and Goes was released on July 19, 2010 as an extended play with six songs in the USA.

On June 14, 2011, the new single Loud Music was released in the United States. The accompanying EP with six titles was released in August of the same year. Michelle Branch announced that more experimental pieces, including a. with synthesizers than on their previous albums. In the summer of 2011 she toured the United States with it.

In the following years she continued to write songs, such as City in 2012, which she described in retrospect as anticipatory for the further course of her career. For a long time, however, she did not release any new recordings and did not go on tours. In June 2015 she signed a new contract with Verve Records and worked with Patrick Carney from The Black Keys and Gus Seyffert in their studio. The first two singles Hopeless Romantic and Best You Ever were released in early 2017, followed by the album Hopeless Romantic in April . In July and August of the same year she went on tour with the new repertoire in the USA. Since working on Hopeless Romantic , Michelle Branch and Patrick Carney have also been a couple privately.
