Hopeless Records is an American independent label from Los Angeles . It was founded in 1993. The focus of the label is punk rock .
history
In 1993, Hopeless Records was founded in the Van Nuys district by Louis Posen. He had previously shot video clips for NOFX ( Bob , 1992) and Guttermouth . The latter did not have a record deal at the time and asked Posen if he could help them with the release of a vinyl single. Posen acquired the necessary knowledge from the book How to Run an Independent Record Label , which was written by a former employee of SST Records . The resulting label was named after the first song of the Guttermouth 7 ″ Hopeless . After starting out in a small room, the label now operates a 400 m² department store. The label has released over 130 albums since its inception, which together sold over three million copies, several of which hit the Billboard 200 . In 2005 a sales deal was signed with Soulfood Music and an office was opened in Berlin , which made the records released on Hopeless more accessible to German customers.
